New install (non upgrade) of Win 8 x64 is working fine after working out a few driver issues and for the most part it was smooth sailing.
The only things that came up worth mentioning are when the browser was set to chromium a new tab (Start page) loaded slowly and
there where some drives that were reassigned while the drive labels remained constant.
That made me wonder if it would be possible for MC to use drive labels instead of letters since Windows will change the drive letters
as it sees fit but will leave the labels alone.
Example; [Drive] letter (label)
(Bolded drives were enabled/disabled with their respective Win version)Win 7:
[WD Velociraptor 600GB] C (System), [Seagate 1TB] X (Music), [Seagate 2TB] Y (Video), [WD 3TB] Z (Backup)
Win 8:
[WD Raptor 150GB] C (New Volume), [Seagate 2TB] D (Videos), [Seagate 1TB] E (Music), [WD 3TB] F (Backup)
I know me having to go into Disk Management to reassign drive letters is a minor inconvenience but the ability to migrate from system to system
using labels would be another one of those things that makes MC as a whole more than the sum of it's parts.
While I am thinking about it why hasn't Windows moved past the simple drive letter system when it is obvious that it has the potential to understand
labels and leave them unmolested.
I mean really why does Windows need to use Y:\Videos\ when it could just as easily use Videos:\
Wouldn't this simplify things for people like Glynor
who have piles and piles of drives. (Drive1:\, Drive2:\,....Drive99:\)
They extended the number of available hardware IRQs a few years back it is time to do away with simple drive lettering.
