Downloaded MC last night and installed on Zotac Mag running Windows 8.
HDMI out to Yamaha Receiver then HDMI to LCD TV.
Blurays are ripped using MakeMKV, no compression, movie only, with DTS sound.

Movies are a bit jerky especially when panning.

I can view same movie using XBMC and Boxee v0.9xx on same Windows machine and they are smooth.

I have enabled hardware acceleration via MC (it help a little), and running Red October Standard.
(I tried Red October HD and get no picture and I believe due to not enough power).

Would like to start using MC over other software if I can get it sorted....
Any ideas?

Was the audio on "pass through"? That always works well for me.

Actually, I think I am going to reinstall Windows 7 tomorrow. Win 8 is OK, but I don't want another
learning curve while I am trying to dial in software.
For some reason Win 8 doesn't recognize my sound card as being 7.1 and is forcing me to use stereo
only.. pass-through is not an option either.

Probably a driver issue but I need to get back to a reference point.

Still though, same files play perfectly with XBMC and Boxee... possibly due to DXVA acceleration?!

Have you set up the video options for display rates?  Look at this section of the Wiki:

Changed OS back to Windows 7 and got my 5.1 sound back... a good thing!

Also read through the wiki a bit and changed video sound option to bitstream/HDMI.
There is still a bit of stutter to the point of not wanting to watch video.

I remember the 24/60fps toggle depending on content from XBMC and was using it.
I enabled it through MC and it doesn't seem to do anything. In XBMC I would get an onscreen
notice when it changed. I was running Linux at the time and also had to make a config file
for my TV that I dropped in one of the directories. It would read it when XBMC was booted and
send info to TV. I'm assuming MC takes care of this?!

Still in search of smooth playback.

Stutter could be something like a virus checker.

Try turning Videoclock on and off.

Are the files on a local drive?

Don't use bitstream.  If you do, you can't use VideoClock.

Did you follow the instructions for Display Settings?  This is crucial for getting smooth playback.  MC will automatically detect the frame rate of the video from the file fps setting and set the display refresh rate to match.  VideoClock will resolve any minor difference.

All my content is on external drives plugged directly into computer.
Most of my content is bluray rips using MakeMKV. (DVDs seem to play fine)

I tried different FPS settings and looks like I have to settle for 24/60fps. When I try 23 or 59 I get a message saying not supported.

At the moment there is nothing else installed (that I know of) on computer to interfere... I just installed Windows 7 yesterday.
Sound settings don't really seem to make much difference. I changed from bitstream and then clock on/off to no avail.

Some of the files I am trying to play are very high bitrate being straight transfers.

But once again, when I play same file on XBMC it is smooth as silk so it stumps me why I can't get this going.
