Stream to Linux machine?
« on: June 20, 2012, 10:35:30 pm »

Pardon me if this is a silly question, but I cannot find an answer.

I intend to do the computational work on a JRMR PC and send audio data over ethernet to a small Linux based PC with sound card output.
Apart from using netjack2 on both server and client machine, is this possible? How?
Eventually, what MC version is required? I own MC v15.

Thanks in advance for your help

You could use MC as DLNA server then you could use any DLNA compliant "client" on linux to access the server.

Could you please name some DLNA compliant "client" on linux.
Is the protocol employed by DLNA tcp o udp?

My original idea was to be able to remote the PC source which sends audio data to a "stupid" linux based network audio adapter through ethernet.
Is this still possible?

Thanks.

Please I would like to understand a bit more about DLNA configuration.
In that link it talks of Renders and Servers.
What does a DLNA client actually do?
I would like to have ALL processing on MC computer (server) and the receiving linux based NAA device (DLNA client ??) just acts as a buffer pass through for audio data, also because it would be seriously underpowered (Alix machine with 256MB RAM).

The guys at Linn have a nice page that explains UPnP / DLNA quite well in laymans terms: http://oss.linn.co.uk/trac/wiki/UPnP

RhythmBox can receive data from a DLNA Server using the coherence plugin.  :)

Thanks. Now it's clear  :)
...I wanted to be sure that all computational work was on the Media Server

Do you have experience that RhythBox actually work as DLNA client with MC?

I was suggested Gmrender and latest VLC. Any experience with these clients?
Is there a Linux DLNA client that works, that other users are employing?

This might help:

One general question just to be sure:

Can I implement any filter (like upsampling, XO, convolution) in MC DLNA Server before sending data to the DLNA client/renderer?
