very slow import over wireless network
« on: December 04, 2012, 03:12:20 pm »

I have several thousand songs to import and it is taking around 15 secs per song. On a previous occasion MC wizzed thru them. I am on MC15, using a NAS. Any ideas how to speed up the process>

Each version of MC gets faster, so you should try MC18 (or at least MC17).

You might also check for an updated NAS firmware.

By comparison, you can see import results from a local drive here:

Could it be an antivirus scanning each file?

Or Audio Analysis being enabled?

i disabled the antivirus which speeded up the process but still taking about 2 seconds per song compared to the speeds of over 100 files per second on  your test.
I am on a wireless network system, does that affect the speed?

i linked up directly with the NAS thru cable which again speeded up the process but not to the speeds stated in your tests. any other ideas?

mc15. It has taken 4 hours to do 15,000 files and it has really slowed now. I have another 150,000 to do so you can see my problem.
I did this same exercise on previous MC versions and it worked fine.

Of the ones that have downloaded, many I files i try to play, I get 'buffering' and then it jumps to another file and goes to 'buffering' and so on
Is there a number to call or a chat page to resolve this issue and that of the slow import??

As I've said twice, please try MC18.  It's free to try.

I am reluctant to try a new version as it always takes me some time to adjust to the new layouts etc...
I had used mc11 to mc15 but the speed of import this time round is a real pain. it took all of last night to import 30,000 files. i have followed the various suggestions and there has been limited improvements but nothing close to the speeds you or i expect.
if this is the speed of import i am to expect then so be it but i get the feeling it should be much faster as it was in my previous versions.
