So you have a Music BD with great lossless HD Audio and you want to rip the Audio out as say FLAC (or WAV, APE, MP3 or....)?  There are some commercial progs around that will do it, but you have to pay $40 for the privilege.  While the following is not "officially" supported by MC and is a bit rough around the edges, you can do this now!.  The results will give you full bitrate and depth audio rips from your BD Music discs.   as the process will use the existing LAV Filters (and dtsdecoderdll) ... and will even give you the full decoding of the whole multi channel 98kHz @ 24Bit DTS-MA stream (not just the core).

The first thing you have to do is import and tag up your Music BD as per the example in the Wiki - http://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Particles .  At which point you now can play, track and manage each Music Video Track just like you can with a CD (eg make playlists etc) but of course they are still Music Video clips, so to extract the Audio you now need to:

1) As shown in the pic, Select the Tracks you want to extract the Audio From and Change the Media Type to Audio

2. Right Click on these files --> Library Tools --> Convert Format.  Select you preferred Conversion Format (eg FLAC) and check your "Options" (see pic) that only ONE conversion will be done at a time (or else you will get audible glitches in the output).  At this point you can also select what directory to put the files in and if you want to have them imported into MC.

Now "hear" is the fun bit, MC is now creating FLAC flies (one at a time) from the Video Particles as requested!  In this example it is a 6CH 24 Bit, 28KHz file being created with all the correct Meta Data being populated into the Tags of the FLAC File.

...and (drum roll) here is what you get!  Looks like a lossless audio HD transcode by track with all the meta data retained (except you may need to add coverart)!


FYI - The last thing you will want to do is change back the Media Subtitle of the Particles to "Video"

Where to from here?  As mentioned in the OP, I had a look at a few other progs to do this but they either did not split by Chapter/Track or would only transcode the DTS core but in the case of some dedicated commercial tools they want $38.50 for it and only extract the core lossy tract.  

I've not tested everything but the obvious bits to make this work in a user friendly way are:

- Ability to create Particles by Chapter

- Allowing the Audio Conversion Profiles to be used for "Media Type = Video"

- Ability to select what Audio Track to use for the conversion.  I tried using the Playback Info field to do this but it always selected the "best" track according to the LAV/MC logic for movies (eg the preference for more channels meant I always get the 6ch DTS-MA track and there is no way to select the 2ch LPCM track that is also on the disk)

- Copy the Coverart over (all the meta data seems to get copied).

I'm also pleased that the durations seem to be correct (unlike the issues with BD Particles video conversion lengths being wrong) and that gapless playback of the converted tracks seems to be spot on!

Yes!  Make this a feature!!!

DVD Audio Extractor is a decent program for extracting audio from music DVD/Blu-Rays.  Its only shortcoming is its inability to handle DTS-MA.  It can only extract the lossy DTS core at 48khz.  If you have a LPCM track then it should suit your needs.

My dilemma is this.  I have a Blu-Ray disc (Pixies "Minotuar") with DTS-MA 2.0 at 192/24.  It also has a 6-channel track.  I want to extract the 192/24 stereo titles and convert to FLAC or WAV at full lossless 192/24.  

I will give this "hack" a try.  It looks like the best chance I have!  I have to first learn how to properly load each title in MC using particles.  Would the process change if I loaded each title into MC as a ts or m2ts file?  I can use tsmuxer to get rid of the 6-channel track.  That way MC would only have the stereo DTS-MA track to process.

Yes please make this a feature!!!  I only have one BR-Audio disk at the moment, but if this were a feature, I would buy more as it tends to be cheaper than HDTracks and HDTracks only seem to supply 2.0 audio not 5.1 (not sure which I prefer at this point as I only have one disk, but the option would be nice).

How do you do this?  I've ripped my BD-Audio disk using MC 18.0.183 and AnyDVD HD.  I don't see how to parse out the disk into chapter/track.  When playing the rip I can right click on and select chapters/tracks but don't know how to get a list of chapters/tracks to tag as individual particles.

I think you need to rip with MC for this to work.  You could read about Particles on the wiki.

While it is pretty straight forward it is unnecessarily time consuming..... I do have a request in for a feature in MC to "Auto Create Particles by Chapter" to remove the tedious nature of this.  If you want this feature then as before..... Voice Your Opinion!

Until (If) this is added as a "real" feature, the only way I can think of selecting the other (2CH) track is to remux the file with only the one track.... then follow the process described in this thread.

Like all things, JR is very responsive to user requirements... so can I suggest you give it a go and post the results?

I vote YES for this to be a feature.
I bought Wish You Were Here (immersion edition) specifically to get the Hi-Res version of the album into JR.

Following much the process as outlined here I was able to obtain the full resolution 6 channel flac files for each track.
Rip the BR, change media type to Audio (there is no video content for this disk).
Create particles. Lots of trail and error to get the track lengths.
Once the particles are created convert each particle, one at a time.
You need to rename the flac file as every converted track has the same name.

I should add the detail. Extraction to flac was from the mt2s file as copied from the BR.

JRFan - Glad it worked.  FYI - if you follow the guide in the Wiki and import the actual BD (not the M2TS file), you can see the chapter points (though still have to type them in manually when creating the Particles).

I know this is a lame question but what is the prime motivation to extract the audio ? All other things being equal one imagines it is an advantage to get both vision and audio when you rip a BD or DVD. So for eample does this process eliminate say the lossy audio component or something?

Your right, when in doubt get the BD as it not only has (probably) a better Audio Track than a CD it will probably also give you a choice of 2 audio tracks (2.0 and a 5.1 mix) + a Video Track and extras.  The benefit of pulling an audio only version off is to include them in your audio library for playback where you don't want (or can not have) a Video stream, eg  It could be to put on a CD, or a Music Player, or streaming to a DLNA Audio Player.  FYI - While, it is also possible to make a compilation mix where you can include the music videos as part of the audio views so you can then make playlists with both content most seems to segregate their Audio and Music Video.... and this allows you to buy once and use in both situations.

The downside is there is just not as much Music Video released compared to CD, and the part of the market I find oddly missing is the complete lack of POP Compilation Top 40 Music Video discs?  Their are heaps of TV Music Video channels and I can buy such content on CD's no one seems to sell compilation Music Videos...they are all concerts.

Yes, I have done something similar but it never occured to me to use "playlist" in the rules. I combined Audio;Video, then set up exclusion rules for non music-video files.

You brought up a good point here and it was brought up in another post in relation to not being able to add the composer tag to music videos.If you had time it would be great to get your comment in that post Tagging musical video.

Hi Sampson - I've added some posts to the thread you pointed to.  FYI the original out of the box Audio view as set by JR is "[Media Type]=[Audio],[Playlist]", I just modified it to add music video.

Thanks Jmone. Yeah I must of messed with this and dropped the [Playlist] way back when I started meddling to mix in music videos with music files.

Also,I vaguely remember that when I previously added the media subtype rule as [music video] I lost the audio files. So I set about achieving it a different way.I then noted here your refernce to "Import/export" and saw the "or" in the argument. I figured out that this was reflected in the rule set by the ( ) around the rules in the main wizard box and you can even click directly on "(" to change it to a "[" changing the basic meaning. All these things I have learnt,so thanks.

additionally I never thought to look in the "Import/export" before as the advanced way to change the rule set. Its kinda a misnomer.
