18.0.189 (5/20/2013)

1. Changed: Updated Polish translation (thanks Janusz Grzybek).

1. Fixed: In some cases, 5.1 input was not working with the FLAC encoder.
2. Fixed: When using 'Gapped' playback mode, the gap would not be honored when switching hardware output formats (normally sample rate).
3. Fixed: The playback position could be incorrect when using a gapped playback mode.
4. Fixed: In some cases, the player bar could draw incorrectly (only applies to the last few builds).
5. Changed: The borders in Display View / Cover View will not hide while a right-click menu is showing.

18.0.187 (5/16/2013)

1. NEW: The 'Output Format' settings are honored in DSP Studio when doing a handheld conversion (allows resampling (by each input sample rate), and channel up/down mixing).
2. Changed: When converting a file with a bitdepth greater than 24, the engine will convert to 24-bit (with dither) to feed the encoder (since few encoders support more than 24-bit files).
3. NEW: DSD files support conversion to a handheld (requires enabling DSP Studio for the conversion and picking a sample rate that will work like 44,100 or 48,000 Hz).
4. NEW: DSP Studio can be enabled during audio conversion (Library Tools > Convert Format), allowing resampling, channel mixing, convolution, etc.
5. NEW: When converting videos, a checkbox 'Convert video to audio' is provided so that you can extract the audio out of any videos and optionally apply any DSP (thanks to jmone for the inspiration).
6. Changed: When returning to Theater View, the file list will be refreshed instead of showing the last shown set of files (which could be stale in some cases).
7. Fixed: A rare crash when parsing certain MP4 audio files.
8. Fixed: Some clear QAM channels would not play.
9. Changed: Revamped ClearQAM tuner support.
10. Fixed: WMV encoding synchronization. Fixes Xbox 360 video playback when converting.

18.0.186 (5/16/2013)

1. Fixed: WASAPI was not working in non-exclusive mode in certain cases.
2. Changed: Revised the error messaging system for output plugins so that they never show their own errors but errors they raise can be shown by the framework (previously the error messages could cause a hang during video playback).
3. Changed: Removed the ASIO option to 'Display diagnostics when starting ASIO' because all diagnostics are written to the log file (Help > Logging).
4. NEW: Theater View television guide hides channels marked as hidden and adds a 'Favorite' view for favorite channels (requires resetting Theater View views in Options > Theater View > Reset!...).
5. Fixed: CableCARD tuners were inadvertently included in the list of analog devices during analog or STB channel scanning.
6. Changed: Updated Chinese language text file to reflect recent changes (thanks kelijun).
7. Fixed: The phrase "JRSS Subwoofer (x Hz lowpass)" in Output Format configuration could not be translated.
8. Changed: Hidden channels (hidden in Options > Television) are no longer shown in Standard View > Television or on dialogs that ask for channel selections.
9. Changed: Hidden channels won't have EPG data loaded for them so you will need to manually reload the EPG if you reshow a hidden channel (done for efficiency).

18.0.185 (5/15/2013)

1. Fixed: Video conversion could crash in some cases.
2. NEW: When scanning for CableCARD and set top box channels, the easier automatic EPG option will be offered.
3. Changed: The guide settings used in channel scanning and EPG loading will be shared.
4. Changed: TV channel scanning uses radio buttons to pick a scan type (digital, analog, CableCARD, etc.) and only does one type of scan each run.  Run the scanner multiple times if you need to do more than one type.
5. Changed: When loading a television program guide, the question to 'keep' vs 'overwrite' guide identifiers will only be shown if auto-matching would actually overwrite something (normally it wouldn't, so the question was meaningless).
6. Changed: Simplified the wording on the scan for channels dialog.
7. NEW: When picking a television guide program in Theater View, the option 'Tag Channel' is offered.  It allows making the channel a favorite, hiding the channel, or custom keyword tagging.
8. Changed: Switch Options > Television to use an options tree (allows scrolling with large fonts, supports search, allows nesting advanced, etc.).
9. Changed: Moved all TV tools that were under the 'TV Options...' button in Standard View > Television into Options > Television.  'TV Options...' now just shows Options > Television.
10. Changed: Added the ability to pick favorite and hidden channels in Options > Television.

1. Fixed: AC3 encoding of output was not working nicely with video playback.
2. Changed: Audio Path will better show when a padded bitdepth (like 24-bit inside a 32-bit container) is in use.
3. Fixed: Bitstreaming of audio during video playback was not working in some cases.

1. Fixed: Audio Path was not correctly reporting the output bitdepth in some cases due to the new audio bitdepth system.
2. Changed: Removed WaveOut output plugin (it was a legacy mode only needed on (very) old versions of Windows that are no longer supported).
3. Changed: Merged 'WASAPI - Event Style' and 'WASAPI' into a single output plugin.  If you required 'WASAPI', you may need to reconfigure your audio output settings.
4. Changed: ASIO supports encoding the output as AC3 using DSP Studio > Output Format (requires downstream AC3 decoder or you will hear white noise).
5. Fixed: When scanning for Set Top Box channels, cable channels 3 and 4 were not presented as possible channels on which the set top box fed signal to capture device.

4. NEW: DLNA image slideshow when pushing an image playlist to a renderer. Follows slideshow logic that MC uses including the image duration in Options->Images->Slide Show Duration.

1. Fixed: Theater View remote focus could shift incorrectly when using the on screen keyboard.
2. Changed: Switched YouTube's view order in Theater View so that 'Search' is on the left so it's a single arrow away instead of at the end of the roller.

6. Fixed: Digital television channel scanning was broken in the last few builds.

1. Fixed: Some animated areas of the program like 2D visualizations were not redrawing properly in build 178.
2. Fixed: The mouse controls could become unavailable with certain types of displays in Display View with build 178.
3. Fixed: Using the popup expression editor from an in-place expression editor in options could lead to a crash.
4. Fixed: When deleting an image from the library, the tooltip for the image could obscure the delete confirmation dialog.
5. Changed: 3GA files are treated like AAC / MP4 audio files, so they can import, play, and tag.
6. Changed: Updated Chinese language files (tranditional and simplified) (thanks kelijun).
7. Fixed: If a large Photoshop image failed to load, it could cause a crash.

Somewhere between 125 and 187 I got a similar problem to:

I get flicker when viewing the options popup. Viewing the standard view has no flicker, but when in Options I get flicker when trying to scroll the window.

Does it matter what Options page you scroll?  Is the flicker of the list, or of the whole dialog, or something else?  What OS are you on?

Win7 x64. Just the list I think, I will check when I get home.

Scrolling music files in the panes view is fine for example.

It might also happen when I scroll though the list of fields to add an extra column to a view.

As I say I will check exact what happens and when and revert.

Scrolling in panes view or other views is fine, but on the options windows or other windows (eg analyse audio) scrolling with the mouse wheel or using the scroll bars causes flicker. There is also a redraw issue with the mouse hovering over entities in those windows.

I have not been able to use hardware acceleration in a long time with Nvidia and madVR. I was able to use it okay with my Radeon HD 7790. The HTPC with the AMD had been running 18.0.75 and I was reluctant to upgrade with all the changes going on in MC over the last days. I finally went 18.0.87 on the AMD based HTPC and it would no longer run hardware acceleration and madVR. Performance with madVR and Ceton was quite poor and I reverted back to 180.075.

I have .89 build running on the Nvidia box and it seems to working reasonably well albeit if you enable hardware acceleration with ROHQ you will get a Media Center has stopped responding type error when you close a TV channel and MC returns to Theater View.

Any idea what the problem is with hardware acceleration? My Nvidia GTS 450 card is less powerful than my AMD HD 7790 theoretically but it seems to run fine without hardware acceleration albeit it can't do jinc 3 AR. The AMD definitely benefits from hardware acceleration fewer frames repeated and dropped and less pixelation with Ceton/Comcast Live TV. So the newer version breaking hardware acceleration on AMD was definitely not a plus and was part of why I reverted to an earlier version.

One other other thing. The AMD will put up the madVR OSD with the CTRL-J. I can not get the Nvidia to display the OSD and that has been true for many release of MC and Nvidia drivers.

This thread is 18.0.189 and it is worth a try.

Yes I did mistype. 189 does not allow for hardware acceleration on Nvidai with madVR. I will try it on the AMD platform on the weekend.

If I connect a 6th gen iPod Nano while MC is open, MC hangs as soon as iTunes is opened.  

• Ejecting and disconnecting the Nano and closing iTunes doesn't unhang MC.  
  
• Ejecting and disconnecting the iPod+force close MC allows MC to run again, but it comes right back when the Nano is re-connected and iTunes opens.
• iTunes can run at same time as MC if Nano is not connected.
• After force closing MC and Mediaserver and re-opening, MC will function for ~10 seconds before it will hang again.

Running MC makes forced iTunes synching bearable, so I would really like these apps to be able to coexist.  I used to be able to drag tracks from MC into the Nano in iTunes, which was a really efficient way to get stuff on the Nano.  Having to disconnect and the Nano and shut down iTunes, then open MC, export playlists, then shut down MC, then open iTunes, then connect the Nano, then run iTunes sync is not a great workflow.

BTW- I used to get (and previously reported http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=72398.msg491937#msg491937) constant unsupported device popups when the Nano was connected- I don't get those with recent versions of MC, but I'd rather have popups than hangs.

I'm on iTunes 11.0.3.42 and Nano firmware 1.2., both the latest, releases.

DoP over Ethernet to Logitech Touch Failed on v189 (success on v175)

I can play DoP over Ehternet to Logitech Squeezebox Touch (EDO plugin) to Myteck Stereo 192-DSD on version 175 with the following setting:

installed Whitebear v2.5.0.3212 (no setting required)
on J River 175:
Wasapi Event Style with "Default" output mode setting
Bitreaming mode: Custom -> DoP 1.0
Enable Media Server --> also enable DoPE under advance setting

The above works fine and I can play iso, dsf, dff file through network to Touch to Mytek and lit up the dsd light. However, after upgrading to version 189 last night, the wasapi event style disappeared and what ever I did for the setup (either same as version 175 or tried other possible settings), it fails to send DoP to Touch to Mytek. Just white noise. It seems it's not bit perfect for the whole path so that DoP wav sounds with white noise.

Please correct the problem as soon as possible.

Clicking Ctrl+W is supposed to close the active view.  If I have split view enabled, click in any of the views, then Ctrl+W and I get "Would you like to close the program?" which, in fact, will exit MC.  View->Split View->Close Active View shows Ctrl+W as the hotkey for this action and I do not have a custom Resources.xml file.  Ctrl+W does close a view in a tab correctly.

I am new to DSD, so please take this post accordingly.

I was using version 18.0.174 with KERNEL STREAMING and local DSD (64/128) content was working.

I updated to 18.0.189 and KERNEL STREAMING with local DSD (64/128) playback stopped.  It gives me an error message "Something went wrong with playback. ... You can use DSP Studio to change the output to a compatible format. ...".

I am able to playback local DSD content with WASAPI(32-bit/Exclusive) on 18.0.189.

After configuring the WASAPI screen, I am able to go back to KERNEL STREAMING with local DSD (64/128) content (until I reboot JRMC18 and then I get the error dialog dialog again).

When playing DSF files through library server on another computer (converted to MP3), there is a problem; file plays for a while, then stops, and jumps to the next on the play list. Same thing happens with the next file - it plays for a while and then stops and jumps to the next one. What to do?

Since updating MC to this version something has changed with the rendering of subtitles. ASS subtitles now have a very small font size (SRT subtitles are still the same size as before). If I change the font size settings in MC to make the ASS subtitles larger, then SRT subtitles become too large instead. (see the attached screenshots, VLC compared to MC. MC used to render it like VLC before).

Next build:
Changed: SSA subtitle takes into account when the subtitle file resolution does not match the content resolution when sizing subtitles.

Make sure your UAC elevation level is the same on both sides of the drag and drop.
