Error restoring Media Center license: Unknown error
« on: November 15, 2013, 11:33:33 pm »

Hi, I have recently purchased an upgrade from MC17 to MC19.
Every time I attempt to upgrade using the key I get the following message.
MC17 starts to open but then all of a sudden I get this :

" Error restoring Media Center license: Unknown error "

Twice now I have asked for another key , now only 8 restores left.
Initially I was using Chrome as a browser but I have tried IE and Firefox to no avail.
Am I meant to be trying to upgrade from 17 to 19 or am I meant to be doing a full fresh MC19 install using the key...Confused  !!!!
Would antivirus or firewalls be making a difference
Any help appreciated as I have read all of the tutorials and getting nowhere
Regards,  Wayne Morsch

Morning Wayne,

You should install MC19, and when it runs, follow the prompts for activation.

You can keep 17 installed. By default, they are installed in different directories, and when you run MC19 for the first time, it should detect your v17 library and settings and import them automatically.

Remember that while MC19 can detect and import a v17 library, v17 will not be able to recognise a v19 library so in the very unlikely event you want to roll back, you will have to revert to the last v17 backup you have.

If you have any other issues, just shout.

-marko.

I just purchased an update to MC19.  Am currently running MC18 on Windows 8.  I am getting the same message--same problem as OP.  The problem is the MC19 file does not open at all.  There are no prompts to follow.

When I look in downloads I see a file labeled Media Center19 Windows-233186.  It is only 2kb in size and is not an application file.  Windows says under 'type of file': MediaCenter. 18.Registration (.mjr).  I have Package Installer on my PC but it will not open or unbundle the file.  Everytime I click on the file an Information box comes up and says: Error Restoring Media Center License: Unknown Error.

Like the OP I have tried downloading again.  I successfully get another .mjr file of 2kb in downloads, but it shows the same error when trying to open or run.

Thanks for upgrading.

You can simply enter your registration code (the string of numbers and letters you got at purchase time) into the program and click 'OK'.

You only need to use MJR files if you're trying to license on a machine without an internet connection.

The mjr file is the Install Key, not the program.  You must install MC19 first, then license it.  Here's how:

I can go to the restore page, and enter the registration, but the same thing occurs.  That is what I am trying to say.  It will come up and say do you want to open file or save file?  I click on Open.  Windows asks do you want this program, etc?  I click 'Yes".  Then I get the same error message.  It will not load, open, nothing!

Matt when you say load the registration into the program, what program do you mean?  Into MC18 itself?  I did see something about being able to register from the within the program on under the Help button, but I do not see anything for registration there.

Ok instead of restoring, I went to the download page and downloaded MC19.  The link you referenced earlier seemed to be saying go to the restore page.  Now, it has loaded and the program identifies itself as JRiver Media Center 19.  However, it seems that this is just a temporary download.  How does this link up with the payment I made for upgrading to 19, in other words how does this become a permanent upgrade?

In MC, use the main menu > Help > Purchase or Restore (I don't remember the exact name but there aren't too many choices).

Enter you Registration Code and click 'OK'.
