DLNA client disappears
« on: January 08, 2014, 06:47:44 pm »

I've been using a Cambridge Audio NP50 for over a year and with recent releases it connection to it comes and goes randomly.  Also frustrating is that the now player list is wiped to just the one file that was current when the connection was dropped.

- have you downloaded their current driver from the Cambridge site? they have a bunch of recent ones I see

- how are you connected to the NP50 - Ethernet?

- have you tried the DLNA device setting 24-bit Audiophile as well as Generic DLNA?

Found the DLNA settings.  Tried several combinations of type and bandwidths.  Nothing changed.

What version of MC are you using?  19.0.103 is at the top of the MC19 board.

I am using the latest .103.  As a data point, it works fine with Media Monkey.  But i prefer MC.

Wireshark is the most comprehensive and if you narrow the problem down before getting the dump it doesn't have to be a massive file.
I make sure I filter on the PC and renderer IP addresses so I only get the interaction I want (brief instructions on the wiki).
Then start the capture just before the you expect the event to happen and stop it a few seconds afterwards.

I'm guessing that the renderer isn't supporting one of our few required functions (get position, volume, mute, etc).
The trace would capture that. If it's not too huge you can email it to me bob (at) jriver (dot) com. Otherwise PM me and I'll give you a site to upload it to.

Hi bob,

Just an idea...

Given the frequency with which you seem to have to advise customers to use either WireShark or the UPnP Developer tools, I wonder if it would make sense for a future version of MC to incorporate its own rudimentary UPnP logging tools? I know that MC does already do logging of SSDP and stuff, so perhaps it would make sense to also log SOAP action calls perhaps using two verbosity levels a) all calls, or b) calls returning an HTTP 40x or 50x error, bad return arguments, or socket time out.

PS I did this in Whitebear, and it saved me a lot of time helping customers, since I could just tell them "turn on XYZ logging and email me the log file"..
