I did a pretty sizeable update on the Troubleshooting Guide.  I stripped out some stuff, and re-ordered the whole thing to make the workflow much more clear.  I might try to go through it again in a while and cut it down further as well.

I also worked on:

* http://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Carnac
* http://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Gatekeeper_Error_opening_Media_Center_for_Mac
* http://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Library_Backup
* http://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Logging
* http://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Troubleshooting_Security_Software

And found some references to MC19 and changed them to MC20 (in Command Line and Users and other places).

Nice one.

Don't forget about the built in Microsoft Snipping Tool, I have it pinned to the taskbar. It allows smaller snips of the screen or full screen capture and has a highlighter and pen built in.
Start > Programs > Windows Accessories > Snipping Tool

I use this a lot and save the snips directly to MS onedrive, and then use right click "share with onedrive" from one drive folder to open a share link in IExplorer.

Close the share dialog box and then click view original, then "right click" copy on the image that opens.
Then paste the link into the [-img] [/img-] tags in the forum.

You can of course also use mspaint to paste the image to edit with it's drawing tools, which I did to add the arrows, before saving to onedrive, or save it from snipper and upload it into the forum.

I also conned mwillems into working on the DSP pages.  Yay!

I also conned mwillems into working on the DSP pages.  Yay!

I just did a first run at updating Volume Leveling, and wrote a new article explaining the Dynamic Range measurements that analyze audio writes into the file tags, because the two are related (the R128 standard includes both a volume leveling method and a dynamic range analysis).  I also did a brief rewrite of the Analyze Audio article to reflect some changes in how it works, and added some detail on Adaptive Volume .

There's one place where I might need some technical assistance, glynor. On the Dynamic Range article, I included a crude table; it could probably stand some polishing by someone who is better at wiki'ing than me.

More to come, and any feedback welcome.

While your updating the Wiki - you may want to consider changing the page the Wiki starts on when a User clicks Support>Wiki. It currently starts at "FAQ", which I find more difficult to navigate (especially when your not sure what category to look in for your setup help). I think FAQs is better for those who know what the terms are and are a little familiar with the program.

FAQ or Main Topic Index page:
Quote
http://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Category:Frequently_Asked_Questions

IMHO it would be better for a new user to start at the "User Manual" which has all the basic info a new user needs (like how to setup first time, what the screen areas are called, etc., and it is more logically laid out when trying to find something or troubleshoot something).

 User Manual page:
Quote
http://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Media_Center

Lastly, it would be perfect IMO, if the "User Manual" page also had a link right at the top to the "Main Topic Index" page. That would be a great starting point for new users gong to the Wiki for help.

The entire User Manual section is pretty much deprecated and horribly out of date.  I don't like how it is segregated from the rest of the content.  The whole Wiki is the User Manual.

I've been trying to organize the Wiki as I go into a real categories system.  The current FAQ category is all messed up because it has hit the single-page limit (and besides, dumping everything into a single category is a mess).

It isn't thorough enough to promote to the top of the Main page yet, but you can start looking at it here:
http://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Category:Contents

Its linked on the Main_Page labeled as "Main Categories of Topics".

I'll take a polishing run through them in the next couple of days to tweak the formatting to match the style I've been using on the other updated articles.  The style I'm using isn't super-rigid, but I do try to loosely match Wikipedia's style (in a simple way).  Thanks.

As an example... On this page:
http://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Volume_Leveling

The "What is Volume Leveling" section should be by itself (at least largely) not inside a section.  "Introductions" generally should be at the top of the article, not in a section.  That makes them sort to the top of the page just under the header (and before the TOC).  Like these:

http://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Sync_Handheld
http://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Troubleshooting_Guide

Got it, I fixed that for the volume leveling and the dynamic range articles.

I fixed this page:

http://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Library_Tools
and a whole bunch of the related pages...

I did this in preparation for making pages specifically for Rename, Move, and Copy and Fill Properties from Filename.  These are huge projects, and the information on the wiki currently is dismal for both important functions.  But, I needed some kind of structure first.

I also did a bunch of new categorization and maintenance of the FAQ page.  The FAQ page really needs to be cleaned up.  It was stuck at 200 items, which is the maximum size that a category will display in mediawiki without splitting it into multiple pages.  I've trimmed out some cruft, but it is still completely overloaded.

With this in mind, I've promoted up the new Category system I've been building to just underneath the FAQ on the Main Page.  Please DO NOT add any new categories to the base [[Category:Contents]] page without having a discussion on the Talk page first (or here).  (So the same mess doesn't happen there.)

Speaking of which... There are two new tools in there that I don't know about much.  They're related to (I think) the brand-new ability to "link" files together.

Can someone dig the threads up for me about this so I can document it?

It took all morning, but I just did a major overhaul of the Convolution page.

Feedback welcome.  Formatting help for formulas especially welcome.

It looks like we don't have a wiki page for the WDM Driver yet, so that's probably my next stop.

Someone who uses and understands the current situation with Netflix should take a crack at:

I don't.  Bump this thread when and if you do, and I'll put it on my list to give a reformatting pass.

I did a whole bunch good tweaking and re-working of existing stuff, along with a few short "from whole cloth" articles that were missing:

* http://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Display_View
* http://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Display_Plugins
* http://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Track_Info_Pages
* http://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Visualizations
* http://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Media_Types
* http://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Burn_Disc

I started a bit on this too, though it is still pretty rough and old:
* http://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Playing_Now

And I did an epic pile of additional categorization.

Feedback welcome.

I didn't do all of my eventual formatting to the Convolution article, and others, yet.  I'm planning to build a template for color highlighting, but I haven't done it yet, and I'd prefer to finish that before I do a bunch of highlights on articles that aren't mine (I'll already have an epic pile of <span> tags to clean up in my own articles).

However, I noticed one thing...

Quote
Using the Filter in JRiver

To use a single filter in JRiver, just navigate to Tools > Options > Audio > DSP Studio & Output Format > Convolution. Browse to to your filter location, select it, and make sure that the check box beside the convolution tab is checked.

For more complex configurations, JRiver can interpret standard plain-text Convolution Config Files. See these Examples for how to write one.

This particular thing I am kind-of a tightwad about, and so I'll mention it.  I have no firm confirmation that anyone from JRiver agrees, but I've tried to build my "style" based on the general standards that Jim and other JRiver staff have used with their more recent edits.  They do not always use a consistent style, but I do, especially when it comes to this particular point.

Anyway, when referring to JRiver and Media Center, I use the following rules:

* JRiver always refers to the company, not the product.  I know some people use the term "JRiver" out and about as shorthand for Media Center, but Jim-and-Company never do.  So, JRiver staff, JRiver's Interact forum, JRiver Id, are all okay.  The stuff you did above is not.
* Earlier in the article where you say "JRiver's parametric equalizer modules are Infinite Impulse Response filters that simulate conventional Minimum Phase electronic filters."?  That's a gray area, but I'd call it fine, because it refers to something they "own".
* It is always JRiver and not JRiver, JRiver, J River, or anything else.  In fact, this text is probably screwed up because the forum auto-corrects it to the preferred spellings when you post here. (EDIT: Yup, it fixed them all but the space. There were periods and stuff in there when I typed the "bad" examples.)

* When referring to Media Center, the product, you do not need to include JRiver in the text.  The whole wiki is about JRiver Media Center, and I think everyone gets the point.  Besides, it is less clumsy than the longer text and easier to read.
* The first time you refer to Media Center in a given article or section, spell it out.  Subsequent usages in the same section can use the abbreviation MC.
* When referring to Media Center in an article Title or Section Title, always spell it out and never abbreviate.
* When spelling it out, always capitalize M and C, but not the entire string (like a proper name).
* When abbreviating, always use MC and not M.C., mc, or other variations.

That's what I do.  If I come apon your article and have a bug in my rump about it, I'll fix those kinds of things, as I did to the section above.  I didn't check all of the article, or the others, but I imagine you were basically doing the same everywhere.

As I said... Just what I do.  I don't know how Jim or Matt or Hendrik or whomever feels about it.  But I think it works and it looks and reads nicely.

Sweet.

By the way, I read the entire Convolution article you did there, and fantastic job.  It is a bit technically dense, but that's fine for that kind of feature, I think.

Thanks glynor, I appreciate the kind words.

It's a niche feature that requires a substantial time investment to even start using (because you have to generate the filters using 3rd party software), so density is par for the course.  I left out almost all the math and the technical definition of convolution in the interest of a "concepts and impact" presentation.  Hopefully folks will find it useful.

I'd like to add a little more material, but one thing that would be very useful to me would be if the devs could weigh in on mattkhan's thread over here:

yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=95806

He created it at my suggestion because neither he nor I could get channel weights to work in convolution config files, and some other odds and ends related to latency and convolution partitioning.

I said "have not been updated." I was wanting it done. I was not saying that I had just finished doing it.  :)

The Release Notes is my Official JRiver Manual. I've never updated the wiki, but am willing to do some stuff. I tried to login but I get a login error.

I didn't see an e-mail in any of my accounts and nothing in the junk folders either. PM me, please.

I sent another password reset for the account.  I can't verify the email address I used, unfortunately, without an extension that this wiki doesn't have installed.

Bob can directly in the user table.

Thanks, I got it. Our Exchange Server had started blocking JRiver mail. I have now allowed all e-mail from JRiver.com. JRiver wasn't on any blacklist that I could find so the content filter settings must have rejected it.

A little more done...

* http://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Detached_Display
* http://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Display_Action_Window
* http://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Theater_View_Skins

I also did a bit more work on the Standard View page, though it still needs more work, and a bit more work on the Smartlists page.

Finally got around to this:

I especially like the "Pick on Matt for your own amusement" part.  Ha!

I tweaked Jim's Red October article a bit:

Mostly formatting and adding links.
