Request: MK3D filetype
« on: February 17, 2014, 04:31:01 am »

Would it be possible to add the filetype MK3D. These are stereoscopic MKV's. I know I could simply rename them to .mkv but if I do this then my NAS and subsequently DNLA/Plex Server will see them and this will show the movie twice on mobile devices as I keep 2D versions of the same movie on the NAS. If I keep them as .mk3d then only MediaCenter can see these 3D files (encoded as Top and Bottom and SBS).

Thanks,

John

Is that a convention that goes beyond your own file system?

If its only useful to you, you can add the file association yourself in "\Program Files\J River\Media Center 19\Data\Default Resources\FileAssociations.xml"
We may consider supporting it if its a common use-case.

Thanks for the reply Hendrik,

The MK3D format is one of the formats associated with Matroska and not one I made up.

http://www.matroska.org/technical/guides/faq/index.html shows all the different formats.

And more info here http://3dvision-blog.com/5520-mkv-file-container-support-for-stereo-3d-video-and-the-mk3d-files/

Thanks,

John

I must've missed the official file type when I last was on that page. Oh well!

In the next build:
Changed: Added the "mk3d" file association for MKV files with 3D content.

Quick question Hendrik,

Will it have the mime type video/x-matroska-3d in the new version?

Thanks.

Note that the adjusted mimetype will only be in one build later.

Hi,

Sorry for digging up my old tread.

Would it be possible to make the file type MK3D its own file type rather than share the MKV file type.

The reason for this is so I can play MKV files using JRiver MC but MK3D files with StereoScopic Player which supports MVC encoded 3D files via HDMI 1.4.

The way it is now all MKV & MK3D files either play in JRiver when the file type is set to Automatic or both files play in StereoScopic player when I define that as the playback device.

If anyone knows of a better way then by all means let me know. Any assistance is greatly appreciated.
