No.  The process is bilateral -- we gradually take ideas and requests that have been made and incorporate them.  So speak up if there's a feature that would be dear to you.

The possibility to use the studio DSP for DLNA player.

Hello, great to see the new version is up in development!

I would love to see more DSP options available for tracks played via DLNA. Loudness and JRiver internal volume esp., I've gone totally from USB to DLNA connection from my music server and miss these two features the most. Other DSP encoding options like Parametric EQ and virtual sub would also be great.

The addition of this feature might fit well with the JRiver ID and other embedded device plans.

Thanks for your time and hard work.

- Up-scaling on the fly while rendering to DLNA devices (i.e. make a 720p to 1080p) and/or usage of external filters (e.g. SVP).
+1 for the DSP options on DLNA

Okay, hopefully I'm posting this in the right location this time (my apologies for not doing so before, complete read failure on my behalf).

Request #1: An option when double clicking an album's cover art (in the Display section on the bottom left side of MC) to use a detached display window instead of the full screen display view. Pretty self-explanatory, no?

Request #2: Image size scaling options for the cover art detach display. The problem I encounter a lot, especially after clean Windows install is trying to manually resize the cover art detach display window to try to get as close as possible to a 1:1 size (which by default is 600x600 with all my files). So I propose the following; add to the right click menu (when you right click on the detached image) options for scaling the image at 100%, 75%, 50%, etc. and for the option to globally save for all files. This can also be expanded to set a hard limit like 600x600, 800x800, 1000x1000, etc and perhaps custom values. Also adding the Save Cover Art To External Location Specified In Options menu item here might be a good idea as well?

Request #3: Add a few more right click options for the display area on the bottom left side when using cover art. Basically a handful of shortcuts for the cover art options already available when right clicking on a media file, e.g. Save Cover Art To External Location Specified In Options.

Request #4: Add a "Replace Cover Art" option which removes all cover art and replaces it with a specified file. Basically it'd be like using Remove Cover Art and Add From File... in one easy step. This would be VERY beneficial to me when modifying multiple tracks at the same time, e.g. replacing album art for an entire existing album easily and quickly. This would go perfectly with request #3 above too and allow me to mass modify album art without a lot of right clicking.

Request #5: Add a sub-option allowing the Save Cover Art To External Location Specified In Options feature to save album art in a specific folder without creating the additional Albums folder.

Request #6: Add a filename rules support for cover art. Currently it's set at Artist - Album but I'd like to change it to just Album.

As always, thank you for considering these ideas. If anyone needs any clarification or explanation in deeper detail, feel free to ask!

An old request. The ability to write tags and other library info to MP4 file. For me it is critical because I use the MP4 movies in USB HDD and I do not have the full information that I have in MC. I do not care about long time for saving the information since these updates after the first are rare.

I've asked for this before. More than once. And Hendrik has said he'll look into it. But I really want it so I'm going to ask again.

Please, please, please can Gizmo get bookmark support, both reading and writing and for audio and video.

Regardless, I'll be buying my MC 20 licence tomorrow anyway..... but perhaps I shouldn't say that ;)

Ah, here's a good one IMO.

- Favorite menu items on the top of the right click menu for (up to 5) favorite options. For example I could have Rename, Move, And Copy Files, Analyze Audio..., Save Cover Art To External Location Specified In Options, On Disc (external) saved at the top for use at any time. Might be good too to have some way to arrange and order the favorite menu items.

Nevermind, never knew something like this already existed.

Request #1: Double clicking an album's cover art (in the Display section on the bottom left side of MC) uses detach display instead of the full screen display view. I'd like to make a feature request for a solution that when I double click on an album's art (that's currently playing) it brings up the full screen display view and I don't really like it.
Currently, double clicking the Display always brings up Display View. I can't understand your request. Do you want it to bring up a detached display instead?

Request #4: Add a "Replace Cover Art" option which removes all cover art and replaces it with a specified file. Basically it'd be like using Remove Cover Art and Add From File... in one easy step. Cover art is already replaced for all selected files or albums. Select all the tracks you want changed, right click > Cover Art > Paste from Clipboard. You can also use Cover Art > Copy to Clipboard to put existing cover art in the clipboard for pasting to multiple files.

You can currently set it up to 8 recently used. My favorites always stay visible since I use them so much. Do you currently have it set at 8? If not, try and it should help.

Hi -

My requests
  • Ability to set independent start-up volumes for each zone
  • Resolve the synchronisation issues with Android devices

I'm still not clear if the handheld issues are MC or Android or Samsung.  Given I've only seen them occur when MC is performing the sync I think MC is the first place to look

thanks,

Steve

Correct! I've modified the wording above.

Cover art is already replaced for all selected files or albums. Select all the tracks you want changed, right click > Cover Art > Paste from Clipboard. You can also use Cover Art > Copy to Clipboard to put existing cover art in the clipboard for pasting to multiple files.

And when you do this for albums that already has cover art, it removes the existing cover art and replaces it? Does it copy from the windows clipboard or MC's clipboard? So basically I'm thinking all I'd have to do is just copy the image to the clipboard in Windows and it'd paste via MC that way?

You can currently set it up to 8 recently used. My favorites always stay visible since I use them so much. Do you currently have it set at 8? If not, try and it should help.

Gosh, I've never noticed that, thanks!

JRiver does a very good job overall. I do not need more, apart from 2 things :

1 small about the database and tag based information (audio and subtitles languages), as described here : http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=90459.0

1 big, which is, I believe, widely expected here, and would give a pig push to JRiver and gain it many more new customers : a revised theater view, sleekier, more "up-to-date" and easier to customize ; for me the 2 references so far in this area are XBMC and media browser 3.

Thanks in advance for considering these requests, and keep on the great job !

You can set a button on your remote using Media Center Core Commands:

Quote
19.0.141 (6/13/2014)
3. NEW: Added MCC 28036 to set the audio / vidoe lip sync correction (the parameter is an amount of shift to apply to the current settings).

Yes. There is only a Windows clipboard. MC uses the Windows clipboard. If you copy from a website, it is best to copy the URL instead of the image. You can see in JRiver that the option is "Paste from Clipboard (Image or URL)".

Ability to set independent start-up volumes for each zone
On the subject of volume settings, it would be really nice to have a per-zone starting value for Volume Protection rather than always dropping the volume to 20%.

On one of the zones here I would want to start a 40% for example. I have to turn it up every time playback starts.

You can set a button on your remote using Media Center Core Commands:
Is this a global change?
Is it a per-session change?
Is it stored in the video's tags?
Is there any OSD indication of what the current sync is?

Having it accessible via the OSD rather than having to bind keys would be preferable.

P.S. It does not seem to be documented on the wiki.

It is a global change which is not stored. Also, there is no command to set it back to 0 (AFAIK ...), which means that you have to set a value, let's say 10 ms, and remember how far you have gone so can set it back to normal afterwards.

I actually have no idea how to set such a command to a remote, but would be willing to try if explained to me. However, OSD access is what I would like (even if it was global at first), same with subtitles downloading, which I would LOVE to see embedded into OSD "à la Boxee Box"

Some good feature requests here, right on guys

1. +1 DSP over DLNA
2. +1 for a simpler to access lip sync (don't use remote)
3. Checkbox for move all files in folder path....or a way to make a field relational to a folder path...or even a way to copy "all tags" rather than a small subset
4. A way to copy all tags rather than a small subset

This, and adobe are the only pieces of software I pay for.  Thanks JRiver and all the dedicated users who help

In that case, I would like to see some changes.

Firstly, an ability to set the lip-sync via the OSD for the current video. (stored in a tag)
Secondly, some way of setting the global lip-sync visually via an internal test pattern. This should only need to be set once.

This, and adobe are the only pieces of software I pay for.
My condolences.

1)  A checkbox under Directories in Rename, Move & Copy Files that says something along the lines of "move all files (even ones not imported into MC) in the folder to this new directory."  This would allow Album Cover Art, liner notes, phono rip logs, etc to be moved with the Audio tracks.

2)  The ability to save the entire Theater View view-scheme so that it can be copied to Gizmo/Web Gizmo and DLNA Servers at once.

3)  DLNA profiles for devices.  Or a trouble shooting guide for DLNA set-up.

4) A plethora of changes to Gizmo to include: complete DMR/DMS/DMD capabilities so that you can send to Gizmo (and view what is playing in Overview) as well as download content from your server onto your device, ability to link and unlink Zones, dynamic navigation, lossless audio streaming (at least Redbook quality), the ability to pinch to Zoom on Images, and Chromecast support for Images to name a few.

Request for those having multiple monitors on their desk (I have 3x24''), and/or a lot of screen real estate:

Customizable multi-column panes !

Standard View has not evolved to take advantage of multiple monitors on the desktop.

For instance, when tagging new entries in my photo collection, I use Pane Tagging and I tag People, Places and Keywords.

I would LOVE to have a view with panes on the left, and be able to dedicate a column running full height to Places, 2 or 3 full height columns for People and a column for Keywords.  The Customize View window could be used to specify the number of columns dedicated to each category.  0 would be for bunching them together like now (in Panes "on the left", my People-Places-Keywords categories are one on top of the other sharing a single column).

As an example, typically after Christmas I import the content of my camera, and in the Panes view I mentioned, I select all the new pictures and locate the existing tag (or new) for Places and click on it, tag new Keywords (Christmas 2013; Holidays 2013), then:
- deselect all
- select every thumbnail where my girlfriend appears and click her name
- deselect all
- select every thumbnail where my father appears and click his name
- etc, till everybody is tagged

With a single column for all categories, this makes for a lot of work in the elevators bordering each visible category.

Please...   Pretty please ...   ;)

I'd like to see more support in MCWS for modifying playlists. I've been trying to plan out support for adding files to existing playlists in eos, but unless I'm missing something the only way to do this is file-by-file. It would be nice if I could use the SaveMode parameter of APIs like Browse/Files to specify that I want to add files to a playlist, rather than overwriting the existing playlist.

I've also noticed that the APIs that allow you to save playlists (i.e. - that use the SaveMode parameter) require you to specify the playlist path, but all of the /Playlist/ APIs default to PlaylistID. I'd like to see the use of PlaylistID across all of these APIs.

Thanks!

Love the product but is it asking too much to fix the CUE support in Version 20?

Also, better control of the media renderer--sending subtitled files via JRiver media server that display the subtitles, easier chapter skipping in-program and on the renderer itself.

Ability to play my DVD-Audio ISO files (still the best audio format ever invented IMHO).   Unlike other DVD formats, DVD-Audio files must be either on-disc or in ISO format--expanding these special files to the TS directories won't work.  Please let me play my multitude of backed-up DVDA ISO files via JRiver!

I'd love to see a sorting option in playlists/smartlists that would evenly distribute the value of a given field throughout the list.  For example, if a 100-track playlist contains 10 tracks by a particular artist, those tracks would appear about 10 tracks apart.

It is a relatively new feature (I think done since Matt came back to work).  I believe I made the same argument (though 10x longer, of course, because it is me) when it was introduced and asked for...

EDIT: mojave quoted it... It was June.  I thought so.  I can't find the thread where it was discussed.  Anyway, I agree about it being in the OSD.

Hi,
my feature requests are:

- all DSP options on DLNA, maybe also multichannel over DNLA (is this possible?)
- movie information in German, I don't want to read them in english (my wife even understands nothing), so I don't use this at the moment but want to
- open your mind to more audiophile approach (there is more in audio then 0 or 1, I learned that the last 2 years on the hard way...),
maybe this results in even better audio quality in the future (e.g. for audio optimized reduced feature set as an audio option, please no discussion,
only as something to think about)  ;)

Thanks and BR

Would love to see real 3D support. I use mvc MKV files using StereoScopic player which outputs true full resolution images via HDMI 1.4. Would love to see JRiver support these natively rather than having to use 3rd party apps.

Bought my upgrade to 20 anyway, always great to support JRiver as it really is an excellent program.

1. Improved Theater View to make more usable and consistent for touch devices with accepted touch paradigms and gestures, and/or develop a Windows remote for handheld devices. It also needs a lot of attention as a 10' interface, I think navigation is awkward for use with a remote control and presentation/attractiveness could be much improved with regard to eye candy and display of metadata. It is very much a product of several years ago and does not match current Plex and XBMC standards. [Earlier discussion on Theater view usability issues]

2. Database to be held on a central server, e.g. convert to mySQL/MariaDB so it can be put on a NAS or any other server a la XBMC, therefore there would be no need to load remote libraries and sync things from client to server and back again - all clients connect directly to the database server for their libraries so changes are instant and don't need to be synched. This would also help people who would like to run a network/multi-client system at the lowest possible power comsumption by running the database on a low-power NAS and not requiring two complete PCs to be buzzing away just to play a piece of music. Clients include both players and library-maintenance.

3. Allow ripping of CDs on a "client". The workaround is really not acceptable by now.

4. Convert to a "server, controller, renderer" structure so that there is only one server in a MC network, which is what all clients connect to, and you can control any renderer on the network without having to also make it a server and having to connect to it separately. (At the moment, your client/server structure is actually a peer-to-peer network with synching between them - which of course requires "listener" (server) and "instigator" (client) processes on both sides, therefore servrs can also be clients and vice versa, which is where I think your terminology has come from, but it's not "client/server" as a network topology [ref]). Please think about how DLNA does it - DLNA renderers do not have to be turned into servers just so that you can push media to them. If an instance of MC is participating in the network, all its zones should appear on all other clients automatically (i.e. all clients that are connected to the same server). Servers shouldn't actually be players, they should sit there serving. Servers are providers, clients are consumers. If your server machine is capable, then a renderer can also be run on the machine. If your server machine is capable, then it can do server-side conversion. But these are logically separate functions, not mixed up in the same program as with a peer-to-peer system. Once there is separation of the logical functions, it paves the way for multi-platform servers and clients, for example installing the server components only (library server, DLNA server, database server) on a NAS which is what many people are asking for [a NAS is designed to be an always-on server together with managed expandable storage, in a small neat box], library maintenance on a PC maybe, player and renderer components on a Mac, controller components on a handheld device or a 10' interface...

(2, 3, 4 may all be part of the same thing, and 5 and 6 below may or may not be relevant if these were done.)

5. Allow control of active zone on a remote instance of MC, whether using a client instance of MC, a DLNA controller, or a touch-device remote, otherwise it's impossible to remotely control video if you have multiple zones.  At the moment, it is up to the "client" to change the active zone on the "server" and some touch-device remotes already have functionality to do this, but DLNA controllers won't and currently MC clients don't, therefore it needs to be a server-side thing (i.e. the device that is doing the playing, aka player/renderer) and shouldn't be up to the client (aka controller) as the client has already told the player what zone to play in. I understand this is so that you can set a concurrent audio process going in the background without interfering with the current active zone, unfortunately this has the effect of undermining the video side of things as Display View won't work unless it's the active zone. I think this really needs to be addressed and some happy medium of making both work.

6. Notify "clients" when the "server" changes its zone due to Zone Switch , or otherwise provide an easy mechanism for "clients" to interrogate or find out when this happens, otherwise it's impossible to control an item that has just been queued but has invoked a zone switch rule.

7. Provide "zoning" for video, e.g. multiple video cards and video "paths".

8. Optional captions for video, so that you can start a music video playlist and have the song title and artist appear briefly on the screen at the start of each song.

9. Better method for folder-level images, e.g. artist images, which currently at the moment only work when you're using the specific Artist field, and doesn't work for Album Artist or a custom sort artist or expression or whatever, and make generic so that it could work for genres, boxed sets, and custom categories that you like to sort your library by (vinyl, podcasts....etc).  XMBC uses "folder.jpg" but I'd like MC to be more flexible than that. I've suggested before that in the view/category setup, there would be a parameter for specifying what image to display for each value of that category, e.g. default thumbnail that MC generates, or get the image from a file called <path to image directory>\<value>.<ext> where <value> is the current value of that category, e.g. an icon for Blues music could resolve to \\NAS\Category Images\Genres\Blues.jpg, or an image for Abba could be found at \\NAS\Category Images\Artists\Abba.jpg, and an image for the Alien Quadrilogy box set could be found at \\NAS\Category Images\Movies\Boxed Sets\Alien Quadrilogy.jpg. For an album category, this setting would remain at Default MC Thumbnail.

10. Ability to use DSP for DLNA.

11. More development of Gizmo - make it more attractive, easier to use, and all the facilities of Theater View. Basically, it needs to be a handheld version of the MC player.  (Same goes for the Theater View revamp and Windows Remote). Could there be one generic player/controller app that can be ported to multiple platforms with relative ease, in a similar way to how MC is being ported to Mac and Linux at the moment? One Gizmo that runs on Windows 7 & 8, Windows 8 Metro, Android, iOS, Windows Phone...

There may be more...

Ah, yes.  +1.   With sidecar for DVD-A and SACD .iso file tags.

My feature requests

Theater view
I'd like to see a development in theater view, in particular in customization.
For example in standard view I can customize display and choose any field (see attached image), in Theatre view i can't or maybe I'm not able.
I'd like  to have a choice between different progress bar (I want a real progress bar non that near invisible moving point!!) or to show elapsed time on the left of the bar and remaining time on the right (just as ipod does).
i'd like also to show not only cover art but booklet, back, inlay images and/or lyrics while playing.
For me customizable means for example that I can choose which fields are displayed, the area and dimensions in which they are displayed, cover art dimension and position, the stucture.

The point for me is that if I compare different skins of theatre view I notice few differences between them, then If i Compare XBMC skins they are very different.

Following I have some feature that I've already requested for previous versions; hope i'll be more lucky this time.
I also consider the following features fundamental for the fruition of music in the digital age (they're also linked with what I wrote for Theater view)
- improved lyrics support. I think it's fundamental to have scrolling lyrics (for example just as what minilyrics does) in both standard and theatre view. The majority of media centers have this option so I think MC must have this.
- "Liner Notes" button that lets you show digital booklet (pdf or images slideshow) in standard and theatre view; this is a thing that has been discussed a lot.

Then finally:
- conversion from DSD to DST compressed files; I've also requested a way to tag DST compressed .dff files
- HDCD decoding
- Accurate Rip support  for audio ripping and a tool for already ripped files to check ripping errors with Accurate Rip (I've seen this feature in Illustrate Perfect Tunes)

Thank you

I've also requested a way to tag DST compressed .dff files

The .dff format does not specify any way to store tags, so its just plain out impossible.
What the format doesn't support, we cannot do.

Last year there was a very interesting discussion about the possibility to import theme from XMBC but then nothing happened.
I seem to remember a user requesting it, but nothing to suggest that it might happen.

I think that, according to the many many requests from users, the time is come for making a NEW, improved and (most important!) more customizable theatre view.

I don't want to be negative, this meant only to be a constructive criticism.
It might be useful to provide some examples rather than saying "make it better".
It's already very customizable. (possibly more than you realize?)

- conversion from DSD to DST compressed files; I've also requested many times a way to tag DST compressed .dff files
The DFF format does not support tagging. This is not an issue with Media Center.
DSF files support tagging, but not DST compression.

Adding DST compression to files would be good for disk space - it generally halves the size of DSD audio.
However DST compression is very CPU intensive to decode. Since it is only stereo tracks which are uncompressed, the disk space is "cheaper" than the CPU usage required to decode them.

- HDCD decoding
I agree that this would be nice, however HDCD tracks are rare, and it only takes a minute to run them through hdcd.exe

- Accurate Rip support  for audio ripping and a tool for already ripped files to check ripping errors with Accurate Rip (I've seen this feature in Illustrate Perfect Tunes)
A year ago, I would have agreed with you, but PerfectTUNES has made me lose faith in the AccurateRip database, since it's marked a number of albums as "inaccurate" even when ripping in dBpoweramp said that it was accurate, or when I have purchased downloads directly from the artist that were marked as inaccurate.

Of course I know that in fact I asked here for sidecar files http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=74565.msg526899#msg526899

That's Matt's answer:
I'm not sure about sidecars.  We currently only use sidecars for video files.  Another option would be to add an ID3v2 chunk to the DFF.  That wouldn't be strictly following the standard, but it would also work fine and be harmless for software that doesn't support that chunk.

So i asked newly for this feature

You're right about it, I modified my previous post including some suggestions.

Here's another idea/request:

The ability to share only a playlist or album via a webgizmo link. IE, "hey check out this album: " and the link connects to your library, but limits the ability of the end user to Rickroll your zones.

It would be nice adding the possibility to choose, as an option, to never release the playback device while JRiver is active.

This to prevent unwanted noise after a play or stop, especially with DSD conversion enabled.

Let me start by confessing that I'm a 100% Video only user so I start and end in Theater View (and only use Standard View for file maintenance/setup) and don't pay much attention to audio upgrades/features which seems to be JRiver's main focus or strength. However, I think my suggestions would be beneficial to all (especially new users).

1) I would like to see the version number at the top of the Standard View screen (rather then go to Help menu). Currently it says "JRiver Media Center 20" it would be nice if it said "JRiver Media Center 20.x". I have 5 clients and it would be nice to see that they are all on the same version without having to go to the Help menu and drill down. This is especially helpful since JRiver is so quick at releasing upgrades.

2) Remove the installation choices for Express and Custom. Just do the Express install. Users know how to customize/setup the program and add formats. If they don't, the choices are not going to help them. This will save a little time and make the program easier/quicker to install (especially for first time users).

3) Remove Hulu from the Theater View menu. It doesn't work, so why provide it? Having a broken link makes the program feel incomplete. If you get it working, you can offer it later.

4) On the "Express install" add some more formats as defaults (this ties in with my suggestion number 2). Add JTV and MKV to the Video format selections (and anything else that is popular) or default to all supported formats and let experienced users remove what they don't want.

5) Change the background for Theater View (MC20) so it is "obvious" that MC20 is new/different. IMO, a new version should look different even if it is mostly the same programming (and I'm not saying it is mostly the same). Just make it more obvious that "something" is different. If you like Van Gogh backgrounds (who doesn't) maybe pick something with a different color like one of his "wheat field" paintings.

Thanks for your consideration

In theater view , movies, I would like to see  a name view of movies like the Director's view of movies ( meaning instead of the Director's name  below the movie the name of the movie and sorted like it is in name view.

So you want a view grouped by Director but showing the movie name and sorted by move name? You can change the existing views or add new ones to do just about anything you want in Tools > Options > Theater View. However, if you are grouped by Director, then they have to be sorted by Director and not sorted by Name.

I am a audio only user.
Is it possible  to implement sending a genres-dependent "playing now" screen to the remote apps?
(Options > Media Network > Customize views for Gizmo & WebGizmo)
for genres classic it would be nice to see
title
album
but not artist
but as an adon: Composer, Orchestra, Conductor, Soloist and Chor but no artist
for all the rest for genres:
artist
album
title

that would be nice ;-)

I would like an easy to add additional sound cards in the same PC to a zone with adjustable delay in case some sound cards are running DSP/Convolution.  I am using audio only at present and want the identical songs to play in several rooms without latency between them.  I am aware of forcing the existing Zones feature to do this however it never worked well for me and the Zones feature is really intended for playing different material in various places.  It has been fun using version 19 and I'm looking forward to version 20. Thanks!

It would be nice to enable Apps/ clients to syncronize a offline cataloge
Than you could interact with the catalogue ala you are online.
Why? To see what you have and what your catalogue is missing...

did you think this can be implemented?

- movie information in German, I don't want to read them in english (my wife even understands nothing), so I don't use this at the moment but want to

+1 for non english movie info. I have the WAF issue as well.

Having something like this embedded in MC would be a good starting point:
