Microsoft is apparently blocking all our outbound e-mail to Hotmail.com, outlook.com, live.com, and msn.com. Maybe others.
This means that, if you have a Microsoft email address, you will be unable to:
- Receive your license by e-mail when you purchase
- E-mail yourself your licenses if you lose them
- Confirm your forum registration
- Receive any notices of forum e-mail
- Receive news of upgrades or special offers
- Receive any personal e-mail from anyone at jriver.com
It took me a while to determine this was the cause for a couple of our users. I'm sure there are many more who think we're ignoring their problems because they aren't receiving JRiver's e-mail.

Hello Jim,
As previously stated, your IP(s) do not qualify for mitigation at this time. I do apologize, but I am unable to provide any details about this situation since we do not have the liberty to discuss the nature of the block.
At this point, I would suggest that you review and comply with Outlook.com's technical standards. This information can be found at
http://postmaster.live.com/Guidelines.aspx.
We regret that we are unable to provide any additional information or assistance at this time.
Best regards,
Praveen

Praveen,
We mailed xxx,000 pieces, about half to existing customers and half to those who have inquired.
Your user base must be around 10 to 20% of that. How many complaints did you receive?
Every e-mail we sent has this option at the bottom:
> >
> > Use this option if you prefer to receive no mailings:
> >
http://JRiver.com/unsubscribe.html> >
I believe we comply with best practices. We're only mailing legitimate customers and inquirers.
Thanks again for your help.
Regards,
Jim Hillegass

Hello,
My name is Praveen and I work with the Outlook.com Deliverability Support Team.
Your IP (216.14.187.167) was blocked by Outlook.com because Outlook.com customers have reported email from this IP as unwanted. One possible explanation for this is the automatic forwarding of unfiltered inbound messages, including unwanted messages, to Outlook.com/MSN addresses.
Please confirm that your emails comply with Outlook.com's technical standards. This information can be found at
http://postmaster.live.com/Guidelines.aspx.

Hi Praveen,
Thanks for your reply. I'm not the technical person at JRiver, but it will be on this network:
216.14.187.167
We do a newsletter once a month to customers and others who have given us their e-mail address when they download. We include a way to remove their e-mail address. The newsletter is about our product and often gets a very positive response. We receive a few complaints, but we remove those addresses. The list is entirely ours. I know you can't take that for granted, but in this case it's true.
More importantly, our licenses are delivered by e-mail. Our users register for forums. And so on. These are legitimate business services.
We had a problem with Microsoft servers about the beginning of August and received help from your group. There may be correspondence you can find from bob@JRiver.com or bob@qbjnet.com.
Thanks for your assistance.
Regards,
Jim Hillegass
