Panel also transcodes on the server.

... and it creates a stack with the file it creates. But I don't see JRemote doing the same.

JimH, I've been using Gizmo, Eos and JRemote for sometime now for streaming home audio from S8 to my cars Bluetooth audio. For me JRmote works the best. Thank you for you and your teams hard work and hopefully for the continual development of the product. With this said, are you considering requests for possible improvements and or requests for increased functionality?

Would it be possible to enable a Convert format only when necessary feature for JRemote, similar to the existing features in MC's Media Network settings?

I ask because, as it stands, JRemote automatically transcodes all media--which is fine in some circumstances, but I'd love to be able to test two things:

  • Lossless streaming through the cloud
  • Passing through lossy material, like M4A and MP3

The latter is the gravest concern.

In JRemote, settings there is a tick box for "Use native audio format".
Is this not what you are asking for?

I checked and it's ticked. It still indicates that it's transcoding to MP3 320 kbps.

I guess I should take this to mean that APE's, M4A's, and MKA's are unsupported? If so, are they unsupported by JRemote, or my device?

APE not supported?!? Now THAT would surprise me. Matt, any thoughts?

Composition of my library as-is:

  • 2-Channel lossy: M4A
  • 2-Channel lossless: APE
  • 5- and 6-Channel lossy: MKA (containing AC3 or DTS)
  • 6-Channel lossless: FLAC

All of these, except for the FLAC's, transcode to MP3 when playing to my mobile device, whether through LAN or Cloud.

I'm not seeing any setting in MC's options that could be causing this. I just assumed that this was the intent.

Of particular concern are the lossy tracks. These should never be transcoded, if it's possible to avoid.

So I decided on a whim to look up compression ratios for different lossless audio codecs and found this.

Quote
Streaming: no

Is this why my APE files are not streaming to JRemote without transcoding to MP3?

Are you on the same LAN?  Or connecting from outside your LAN.  Port forwarding is only needed for the latter case.

The wiki has a topic called "Network Access".

A firewall may also be blocking.

Hello devs, I was wondering if this is the right thread to make feature requests?

I am using JRemote to control JRiver which is installed on a PC which directly outputs into my DAC, and then to my system. All the media files are stored locally on the PC.

There is no file browser in JRemote. Would it be possible to add this feature?

I have a problem with JRemote: It only works when the port is set to 80, so standard HTTP port. But I have something else on the server that needs that port. If I try to set it to anything else, like 8080, Gizmo can still connect, and I can connect from a browser (so it's not a firewall on the server), but JRemote, which is my much prefered way of controlling MC, won't connect. Not with an access key and not with an IP and port. Can there be something wrong I am doing?

Edit: I have also tried other port, like 160008 for kicks, but that still only works with everything BUT JRemote. I have downloaded the test version of EOS, and that connects without a hitch too.

Has anyone else had problems with FLAC playback on JRemote on Android 7.1.1 ??

FLAC transcoded on server plays back fine as an MP3 stream but native FLAC playback has to download the complete song to JRemote before playback starts in JRemote.
Im talking about local playback to "this device" on JRemote.

on IOS JRemote FLAC streams properly (ie it doesnt download first, it just buffers a few seconds and then starts playback)

MC23 and MC24 do the same which makes me think it's Android specific, and perhaps Android 7.1.1 since it's been a while since I streamed FLAC to the tablet and I dont know when this problem started but it seems like a fairly recent problem.

Just tested EOS and Gizmo and they both also download the FLAC file before playback starts instead of buffering and streaming.

Confirmed this is a 7.1.1 Android issue on my Lenovo Tab 3 Plus. (factory Rom)
Maybe a Mime file type issue?? Any way I can fix this?

Running Android 6.0.1 on my Lenovo Tab 3 streams FLAC just fine. (factory Rom)

You might try Gizmo.  It has an option to "Cache tracks ahead".

It would be GREAT if there was an option check box in the settings for "Use Native Audio Format when connected to WiFi" ;D

EOS has this feature, it's also been discontinued and removed from the play store but I still have a copy from when I purchased it.

It's really too bad because EOS is more stable than JRemote.

JRemote stopped working
« Reply #570 on: December 11, 2018, 08:50:50 am »

Hi I have a problem.
My JRemote for android stopped working.
It cannot connect to the server.
I have tried almost everything. Restarted my android phone, reinstalled JRemote on it. Restarted the server. Always the same, whether I use the access key or IP address:
JRemote says it found the server, but the connection times out.

JRiver works fine..

I have checked the ip address. It is correct. MAC address is correct. I checked my router and both the server and phone is on the same LAN (only one exists)

Problem solved!
For some reason , the music PC's network had changed status from "private network" to "public network".
Resetting the status to "private network" solved the problem.

Hi, new to the forum.

Purchased JRiver for android app for phone. When I try to play music either on phone or via network player the song flashes up on screen to start playing but then immediately pauses. Must be something simple I guess, any help gratefully received

What is the default music player on your phone?

It doesnt have any particular music player set as default. I have 4 or 5 players on phone, but when I look at default apps a music player is not selected, just things like contacts, browser etc - so doesnt appear to be a fault with default app?

Also not just phone giving problem , my network music player (Cambridge Audio CXV v2)  cannot play songs via the JRiver app either.

On JRemote for iOS there are letters along the scroll bar for artists, albums, etc. These letters help you to zone in on the item you'd like to listen to. Is it possible to add these letter to the Android version?

When JRemote was introduced in 2015, I saw a theater view remote, then later it was removed.
I asked that this feature would be nice , so that one can use it to navigate the theater view. Mo4media has a nice interface so is EOS.
I suggest it should be transparent to the user, not buried deep within the menus. It could be next chromecast icon.

Is Media Network checked on your laptop?  Use the Access Key you find in the Media Network settings when you run JRemote.

Just use your Apple account to download and install it again.

Android and iOS are different

I'll move this to a new thread.

Afternoon Jim, please could you advise if JRemote for Android will be supported/updated any longer as I see that last updates was done on 2016.

Current issue I experience is that while in playback when I return to the library and browse any other artist than what I am listening to - the app closes and also forces MC25 to shutdown on my Windows 10 machine prompting me to start JRemote and MC25 again....

I have reinstalled and reconfigured with same results, thinking it could be compatibility issue with the older JRemote version

Please advise/assist

Thank you

In JRemote for Android the App Follows Server Zones feature is broken.  The app does not follow the server's Zone Switching beyond a single occurrence.  By contrast the iOS JRemote App Follows Server Zones works reliably.  Tested on two Android devices (phone and tablet) and an iPad to the same server in which Zone Switching is set up.

There is a new Android version of JRemote coming, so the old one is now unavailable.

It's called JRemote2.  It won't be a free update.  Beta testing shouid begin in a week or two.

Probably should point this out before anyone asks or panics (because they will), if you already purchased JRemote previously you should be able still download the original JRemote (or "JRemote1" or even "JRemote v1" as it could be called) through your app library in the Play Store.

Sorry if you feel that way, but it was a working remote.  It may not have been perfect.

We now have about half a man year in the new version and we need to cover the costs.
