I haven't put much into my LinkedIn profile either, but I get solicitations from recruiters constantly.  It's amazing how pushy they are and how shocked they are when I tell them that I'm happy with my current job and have no interest in making a change.  If they really get pushy, I tell them how many vacation days I get (I've been with my current company for almost 20 years now) and ask if the job they have in mind can match that - that usually puts an end to it.

A good recruiter will call you to ask about other people you know doing similar work, and casually ask how your current job is going.
