Questions on Upgrading
« on: May 09, 2016, 10:40:06 am »

Special prices are currently available on MC22 upgrades.

All licenses sold now are MC22 licenses that will work with MC21 now or MC 22 when it is available (July).

Please read Upgrade Help first.

If you still have questions, please post them here.

Thanks.

Have already completed the purchase, but was just curious if there's a list of added/modified features for MC 22. Thanks

new (and planned) features are usually announced much later.  you don't have to buy now, it's an early bird special for those who want in no matter what!

Hi

Just asking for a french friend who for some reason got charged the full price fro the upgrade

He had to ask for his registration codes. Received an email and got his codes dating back to v17, btw, not just the last one which was v20. He said he pasted in the code from v20.

Anyway can I send his info to you guys to sort this? ... don't want to post his codes/name here of course

thanks and sorry for the trouble ...

Please forgive me if this has been answered previously.  I did not see it in the Upgrade Help FAQ.
I recently purchased MC 21 for the Mac.  I would like to upgrade this to a Master License and have it cover MC 22.
What is the process?

Thanks for your help.

Hi Jim.  Thanks for your quick reply.  Love the product!  I recently switched from Audirvana Plus.

I have a quick pricing question.
On my Mac, I went to the JRiver toolbar and clicked on Help.  I had previously bought a Mac only license for MC21.  I then selected "Upgrade to Master License".  I was charged around $18 and noticed it said Mac lic for MC22.  I tried the Registration Code on my Windows laptop and got the error message that the product was invalid.  I then re-preformed the "Upgrade to Master License" on my Mac and was charged around $22.  This registration code worked on my Windows laptop.  I'm fine with paying an upgrade price to a master license and a second upgrade price to get MC22.  I just want to make sure I didn't over pay, because I did something wrong.

Thanks,

Eric

Dear Support,

I purchased JRiver MC 22. Got the license code via email, and the .mjr file, but later I found that Audiophile Optimizer 1.4 (the latest version of this software) on Windows Server 2012 only works with JRiver MC 20. At the license restore page there is no option to get the license key for the older version, so how can I get the .mjr file for MC version 20, please?

Also, my motherboard has no network driver for Windows Server 2012, so I need an absolute offline solution.

Best regards,
Tamas

Old licenses aren't available.  We don't recommend using software that modifies the OS.  MC is also unsupported on that OS.

The latest version of MC21 will work with that license.  It's on the Download Page.

Done.
If "Improved access to metadata" includes retrieval of metadata in the user language, or even better, in a multitude of languages (to get the original title, the english title and the german title), the $22,98 USD were worth it.

I have purchased MC21 on 7/10/2015 Visa card. When I go to http://jriver.com/purchase_22_as_upgrade.html and paste the copied Registration Code into the box I get a pop up window that states "We could not find an upgrade available for the Registration Code you entered".

I can't seem to find any additional help for this matter so hopefully someone will look into this for me.

Thanks,

You have a Master License for MC21.  That can be used to upgrade to a Master License for MC22.

Didn't see this covered, so...

I bought a master MC21 license. Ended up never using it on Mac or Linux. Don't think I ever will.  I'd like to upgrade to support the product and company, but only to the Windows version. Is there a way to do that or did I screw myself by purchasing something I never used the first time around. Thanks!

No, but you could upgrade an older single OS license if you have one.

I bought a few months ago a master license of version 21. Do I have to pay again for the upgrade to version 22? Is there any upgrade protection for a certain period?

Just want to verify I'm interpreting correctly.

If I have SINGLE license for MC 21 - I can buy MC 22 Master Upgrade License for $22.98 and then install MC 22 on multiple platforms if I ever have the need?

You can upgrade from Mac to Mac or Windows to Windows or either to Master or Master to Master.  Like to like or to Master.

Is it possible to say if MC22 (or one of its early updates) will avoid triggering the windows 10 task bar issue? I need to know in order to choose which upgrade path to take.

Thanks,

This is a Windows 10 issue that Microsoft will need to fix.

For the Windows 10 Start Menu problem, there's a workaround that seems to work perfectly.  See the script in this thread:

This is a Windows 10 issue that Microsoft will need to fix.
Thanks, so that'll be a 'no' then. By this point I've given up hoping that MS will fix the issue any time soon (if at all), so that makes the choice much clearer. If staying with MC I'll upgrade to the multi-OS licence and get a small linux machine for it. I don't think theres the option to just swap to linux, but the price difference isn't huge.

For the Windows 10 Start Menu problem, there's a workaround that seems to work perfectly.  See the script in this thread:
http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=104591.0
Brian.
Thanks also Brian, that looks promising! TBH I've had more trouble with attempted work-arounds than the actual issue itself, so have lost interest in risking the main PC again until windows 10 is (natively) compatible with MC. But if this script works then it would open the door to keep windows (and the same licence type) on a second machine.

Thanks again

Upgrading MC Master License 21 to 22
« Reply #29 on: May 20, 2016, 02:30:03 pm »

I bought a master license (upgrade) for MC 21 a few months ago. Do I have to pay again to receive a master license of version 22? Is there any upgrade protection for a certain period?

Less important question, is there any real benefit to having a master license if MC will only be used on a PC? Can I also use it on my laptop? Of sorry, that was three questions, first one is most important.  :)

Any licenses purchased since the 1st of May are MC22 licenses (which work with MC21 as well). Upgrading is optional, if you're happy with using MC21 and feel no need to upgrade to MC22, then you don't have to.

Less important question, is there any real benefit to having a master license if MC will only be used on a PC? Can I also use it on my laptop? Of sorry, that was three questions, first one is most important.

If you're just using Windows PCs, then no there's no reason to purchase a Master license and/or upgrade to a Master license. You can install and register MC on the PCs you own, within reason of course. ;) So installing on the laptop as well is fine.

Jim's Upgrade Help link should cover all this stuff.

You need to download and install a later version.  21.0.83 is on the Linux board:

That did the trick. Thanks Jim. I'm all set & looking forward for to all the same features in windows to be ported over to linux. For now. The core features are there & am really happy with the linux version. I was waiting for this for a while so I could cut the cord with windows.

Now This is the only paid software I use and worth every penny.

Keep up the great work.

Dear Support,
I purchased JRiver MC 22 upgrade, but JR 21.0.83 can't recognize new code.
I've lost the 7 restores but without results. I've tryed to install the old key (MC21) but I get the same results.
I have the 2 key (MC21 and MC22) and I have "UNREGISERED" software.
OS: Windows 7 and Windows 10 - the same results.
Could you explain me what I need to do now?

You may have a typo in the code.  Use copy and paste.

Mac and Windows are different licenses.

Please read this carefully.

We can reset your restores if you run out.

Hi
I purchased a MC 22 Master Upgrade using PayPal but the transaction did not complete. Several times I tried using the PayPal Support Page, each time entering the PayPal transaction ID and my email, with the result " We could not authenticate your transaction" . What do I need to do next?

I know this and and tried both (copy/past and .mjr-file). Unfortunately the problem with registration was earlier but everything was solved after updating of the program. I hope that everything will be solved in the best way

Old licenses aren't available.  We don't recommend using software that modifies the OS.  MC is also unsupported on that OS.

The latest version of MC21 will work with that license.  It's on the Download Page.

Many serious audiophiles use Server 2012 + AO + JRiver and works perfectly. In this situation I purchased 2 different pieces of software, both of which the latest possible version and still I'm unable to use them. Anyway, I installed Windows 10, succesfully installed JRiver 21 downloaded from your page (MediaCenter210076.exe) The program wanted to upgrade itself, I let it do this and then (after successfully activated with the provided .mjr file) still says it's 2x days left from trial period. It is certain that the registration process is not working correctly, how to overcome this annoying issue?

Make sure you're using MC21.0.83 and then do a restore.  Details are here:
http://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Restoring_a_License

I'm aware that some audiophiles do what you're doing, but it is _highly_ not recommended by JRiver.

I am using JR MC21 master license for Audio use only.

What will be the new features/advantages for audio use only that I will be getting with MC22?  Will it improve further the audio output quality?  Operating improvements?

Please advise before I make the upgrade.

Thanks in advance.

I have MC 19 and upgraded to a master licence MC 22.  MC 19 did not upgrade automatically.  I downloaded MC21 from the site, but it is a trial version and did not integrate with the older version.  Can you help me out with the steps to run MC21 with my purchased license upgrade?

I purchased an ID and also run MC21 on my desktop and laptop. (plus JRemote on iPad and iPhone).  Does the ID come with upgrades to 22?  If not I think I need to purchase a master license.  If the ID will update itself to 22 I think I just need to purchase a PC license.

Which upgrade is the correct path here?

Do I need to upgrade to 21 first then pay again to get 22?

Jim - I solved my problem with the 21 upgrade by uninstalling both versions of the product and then reinstalling the 21. However, I still don't feel that a forum is the right place for this sort of question. I had just paid money for a product which didn't work (or as Monty Python would have put it - I had just bought a dead parrot). To then force me to log in to a forum and then to guess where to post is not my idea of fun. It would be much more reassuring to have a simple form which would get to you anyway.
