JRiver for Android is licensed through the Play Store, so their rules apply. You can run it on multiple devices as long as its on the same google account, as far as I remember.

Awesome, thanks for the prompt reply. I think I'll get her to buy her own, if I log into my google account on her phone I'm sure that's going to cause all sorts of issues.

On a separate note: I notice that Cloudplay is a little laggy and buggy thru the android app. Mostly when you bring up a playlist, the first song displays but only every now again can I see all the songs in the playlist to select a specific song. Otherwise I can skip songs but this is extremely laggy.

The sound quality is excellent though and I really like this feature. I'm building some playlists and uploading to cloudplay so as to access from my mobile in the car.

I've been running the new JRiver for Android update for a week now, and the performance improvements are pretty darn nice - JRiver for Android at this stage is VERY usable for audio.

I only have one little 'issue' though, I notice that cover art for albums seems to be dynamically loaded, and if you switch views (e.g. going from different albums, artists, etc.) eventually JRiver for Android will reload images again, which is pretty annoying. I don't suppose there's a way to build thumbnails AND cache all those thumbnails, so they don't need to be constantly reloaded after switching album/artist views?

All good. I've played a round a bit more and its actually not that bad as Donkey says, pretty useable.

What about an option to turn off album art altogether?

We haven't tested on Android 10 yet. Technically, it's unsupported at the moment.

JRiver for Android can import files from secondary SD cards as well. Just make sure to have the files in an appropriately named folder ("Music", "Media", etc.) that isn't at the root level of the card.

Good to know. And in trying it out I found that meanwhile even one of my favourite ChiFi IEMs is supported: The KZ AS10. On the go this is far more lighter than my current "big" Oppo PM3 (also supported of course).

What Android version is supported ?

I have a MyGica 1960 on Android 6 , BUT JRiver for Android fails to start , just a blank screen

I was hoping for it as a DLNA Renderer on the MyGica

Any Ideas

Mike that might be because jriver is scanning your storage.

I thought the same thing on one of my older tablets but it was actually just running an import.

There is no local content ?

I assume I can point it at the MC Server instance on my Main PC and us it as as a Renderer

Have I got it all wrong (as usual) ?

JRiver for Android plays only local media at this time.  It must be located in the Music folder on the device.

It can't load a remote library yet.

Hi Jim

Am I right in assuming that it will be able to act as a render when finished

I am particularly interested in stream video from my MC Server to an Android TV (MyGica) , currently it came pre-configured for Kodi which I am not too keen on

Meanwhile I'll try in on my "Gym Phone" which has local content

As far as I know, those "Android TV" boxes aren't actually running legit Android TV OS. They seem to all run normal Android with a TV-esk type of launcher and I would know, I actually own a couple of these boxes. The reason I mention this is, once JRiver for Android supports Android TV, it'll likely only work for legit Android TV boxes, not those "Android TV" boxes you can buy on Amazon, eBay, AliExpress, etc. that don't actually run Android TV's OS.

There's only a handful of legit Android TV boxes. The Nvidia Shield TV is one, along with the Xiaomi Mi Box - and JRiver, as far as I know, has only tested their work-in-progress Android TV support on the Nvidia Shield TV, so there's a chance it may not work correctly on the Mi Box yet. MyGica which you mentioned has at least one legit Android TV box, the ATV-495Max. If you have that box, it might work. It doesn't look like any of the other MyGica boxes run legit Android TV OS though.

Personally, I'd say if you're not using a legit Android TV box running legit Android TV OS, Android TV support in JRiver for Android may not/likely will not work.

It'll work on Android (and it'll look like JRiver for Android does running Panel), but if you have an official Android TV it can gain additional features like a new UI perhaps.

You wont (yet).  More works needs to be done to have it marked as "Android TV" compatible.

I tried out the app today after not trying it out for a couple of months, but I'm getting audio files listed that are no longer on the SD card (I'm retagging a good chunk of my non-classical at the moment, so a lot of files are being updated and/or deleted). I tried "Clear Library," but nothing seems to be happening, nor does "Run Auto Import" get rid of these non-existant files. Any way around this, or should I try reinstalling the app each time I make changes?

Using a Galaxy Note 9 with, as said above, an SD card to store all the music.

They're not.

For example, I have Black Sabbath's album, Vol. 4. Under that album listing, there are duplicates for all the tracks: one set with cover art (these play and are the only ones I want to show up) and another set with no cover art which don't play. I changed the particular files on this album (moved from a 16/44 version to a 24/96), and did this for a number of albums (should have been clearer on this in the previous post), but I don't want those deleted tracks showing up. But how? They're deleted from the device (they don't show up in PowerAmp, for example, and they're not in my Windows 10 PC's handheld folder, which I sync from). It's like the entries still exist in Android MC, but not the files, and I want those entries out of there.

If you're able to play the file, the playing now page should give you the file location. Just tap the cover art image.

If the file is still in the library but it really is gone from the device, there are a couple of options. The clear library function is kind of experimental, but there is another option. If you go into the device's application settings for JRiver for Android, there is usually a Storage option with a clear data button. That will wipe out the library. Otherwise, you can select a file in the JRiver for Android, and there should be an option to remove it from the library.

I was able to clear the library using the Storage->Clear Data function. Now I'm re-importanting. Hopefully the Clear Library thing works at some point!

I am having the same problems with the app crashing on Android 10.  Since Android 10 is not currently supported, is there a work around? I am soon to take a 14 hour flight, and would like to listen to my tunes.  Do I need to download another player to be able to do this?

We're not sure yet.  We'll look at it soon.  It seems to work on some Android 10 phones and not on others.

Does this app bypass the Android audio engine so it can take advantage of the dac on the lg v50? Also, I've seen complaints about playlists not playing correctly when imported from the desktop version. Is that fixed? Sorry if this has been answered already.

I bought JRiver for Android specifically to play music files on the phone (Android 8.1.0) because I didn't want to use Google Play. I have JRiver on my PCs / home network so why would I want to use something that isn't JRiver? </rhetorical>. I also occasionally use it to watch videos converted/transferred by JRiver to the phone. Apart from an aspect ratio stretch, it's fine (not enough to worry about delving into a fix :) ). So I'm happy with it for its primary purpose. Some things make it crash (Radio buttons etc) but I'm happy to await further dev for stuff I don't usually use.

One thing is that I can't see (from the phone) my other JRiver Library servers (on PCs on the home network) or either of the 2 NAS devices. My 3 PCs can see each other's JRiver Library servers and both NAS (and the JRiver server on the phone). I read on this thread that recently people can see the NAS on their network. Is this some setting I've missed? What should I have to do to see the other JRiver Libraries / NAS devices on my phone?

I don't mind if this is still a work in development so would stop obsessing about it and test occasionally after new updates :) - but it would help to know where I should look for it and/or if it should be working right now.
 Many thanks.

While you can load a library via a server running MC (Raspberry Pi in my case), it doesn't actually work and it causes a lockup issue. So I think the latest version (25.0.120) is currently broken in that regard but it likely won't be fixed until next week because of the holiday weekend.

How?

Just open the Options via the cog icon in the top right of JRiver for Android, and select "Load Library", pick one, and Confirm.

But if you do that on 25.0.120 you will probably need to reboot your Android device to get JRiver for Android working again. This feature is broken.

Thanks for your response. I tapped the cog and don't see "Options" or anywhere that offers "Load Library". I'm running JRiver for Android 25.0.119 64-bit. No updates available according to Google Play store.

It's not available in 25.0.119, just 25.0.120 and above (hopefully 25.0.120 was pulled due to the issue)... but like we said, it currently doesn't work, so wait for the next version.

It's actually still available, but only to people who signed up for the beta. If you're having trouble with the latest version, one thing you could try is clearing the app data for JRiver for Android from the phone's settings. This should wipe out the library and force it to rebuild.

So, I use MC as my main Windows media player. What I really want is to have MC on my Nvidia Shield TV play my SACD ISOs into my 5.1 receiver. Is this/will this be possible? I've never actually managed to hear my SACD files on my surround system in 5.1.

This post from August 2019 does not seem to be correct: https://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php/topic,118031.msg841783.html#msg841783

The response is though. Only 'Recently Imported' 'Recently Played' and 'Top Hits' Playlists are visible in JRiver for Android.

I couldn't find any update on that situation.

The music on my Sony is in "\disk\Music\" and Playlists are being synced to "\disk\Playlists\", as seen in Windows Explorer with the phone connected via USB. I've tried m3u, m3u8, and mpl format Playlists. I've tried editing the Playlist to use different path formats, forcing Relative Paths, absolute paths. I've moved the Playlist to the root "\disk\Music\" directory. I've run Auto Import many times. I've cleared both the cache and data for the App. I've put a copy of the Playlist into the internal storage at "\Internal shared storage\Playlists\", with paths pointing to the music on the SD Card at "\disk\Music\(Multiple Artists)\The Matrix\01 - Rock Is Dead.flac" for example.

Nothing works. Very disappointing.

Also, I hate that JRiver for Android imports all the images on my phone. I don't want JR4A to do that. Give me some control over what Auto Import does please.

When I play videos in JRiver for Android 25.0.119 on my phone, the signal strength, network, battery icon and clock remain in a grey bar across the top. I think this puts the aspect ratio off slightly. In comparison, when using files to play or a TV app like BBC iPlayer, the signal etc icons are white out of the picture (no bar) and after a short while go up off the screen. Are there any plans for this in JRiver for Android? The aspect ratio is slightly disconcerting and the grey bar detracts a bit.

As you've found, DLNA is only partially working at this point.  You can play from the phone to any DLNA Renderer, but you can't yet play from another DLNA device to the phone.  We should be able to get this going soon.

My JRiver on a Sony phone on Android 9 doesnt see any DLNA renderer, not the jriver instances nor the DLNA speakers. Quite disappointing as being able to take advantage of better speakers around would be what is useful. Any suggestions what could be wrong?

How long was the app running before trying to change zones? Sometimes it takes a couple of minutes before populating the list.

I have been playing with this for a few days on my Android Shield (old model).  I am able to connect to my Library Server running on a Windows machine.  It all works, including playlists and CloudPlay.  I am thrilled, since I have been waiting a long time for this.  I have had a few crashes, but that seems to when navigating, not during playback and I haven't been able to reproduce.  I have a few questions:

1) I am not getting any cover art.  So I am staring at a blank screen with transport buttons.  Is this as expected at this point or down the road or is there a setting I'm missing somewhere for that?

2) How can I tell if I'm getting full bandwidth (ie. FLAC)?  Is there some sort of info I can look at on the client or server side?

That's all for now.  Keep up the good work!

Thanks.  Cover art was disabled in the last build to get Android TV working.  It should be back in the next build.

There is no way at present to look at file details, as far as I know.
