I see my DLNA renderers in Play To. Any chance casting will be supported?

I see TV devices are now supported, so does this mean Nvidia Shield?
So I just download the sideload app and install, or do I purchase and then sideload?  I'm asking because playstore shows shield as not compatible.

Is this going to be like normal MC where each year there's a new major version and an upgrade cost required for that new version?

I'm also interested about an Android TV version as I also have a Nvidia Shield TV.
Actually I've managed to play DSD dfs files on Kodi (after the installation of a proper add-on) but it doesn't have DoP support so it converts all to PCM.

Greetings:
December 3rd / 4th, I installed this android version while I was recovering from surgery.
Since then, no luck trying to detect my temporary Windows server.
I remembered the first two releases, I was able to connect to my server.
I have installed it on Galaxy note 3 and 9, still no luck.
I have no issues running Gizmo, EOS, or JRemote on these phones.
Any idea why it does not see my files ?
Thanks.

JRiver for Android can't currently use another server.  It only plays files from the Android device.

You could use Panel to open another server.

I just bought the app and I can't do anything with it (other than look at some photos on my phone).  Should I be able to play music from my JRiver server running on my pc while in my house?  I have songs physically on my phone that don't show up in the audio window either.  I don't see any way to access anything at all other than the photos on my phone.
Maybe I'm missing something, but there aren't many settings available so I'm not sure what to do.
I'm using a Samsung S7,

Thanks

Music files need to be in the default Music directory on the internal storage. JRiver for Android doesn't yet have an option to change to a custom directory (e.g. Music directory on a microSD card/external storage for example).

Also JRiver for Android is accessed/controlled in a web browser via Panel so a web browser needs to be installed on the device (plus setting it as the default browser under Android's settings is probably a good idea too). See if you can access it by navigating to http://localhost:52199/Panel/ in a web browser on the device.

Help! I downloaded JRiver Media Player for Android, thinking that it would be a great player  to use with high quality headphones. (Samsung Galaxy Note 8) When the app first installs, it does a scan. It pulled up only one album out of the many that are on my phone. (Other players show every album). I then installed the app on a Samsung Galaxy Tab 4. It located no music, only a few pictures. I've looked for a way to do a rescan and I cannot find it. I don't want to ask for a refund because I'd rather get the app to work. Please help. Thank you.

Look above at my last post, music files have to be in the default Music directory on the internal storage of the device. Using external storage (e.g. microSD card) or changing the music directory isn't supported yet.

Again, thank you to Awesome Donkey for his invaluable help.

I installed JRiver for Android. I found out, through the forums, that the app plays music that is in the Music folder in the device. It does not play music stored on a micro sd card. This makes the app worthless since so many people have files on micro sd cards.

Also, the program has no degree of sophistication, i.e., equalization, etc.

Do you have any plans on addressing these issues? Also, can the app work with a portable USB DAC?

JRiver on Android is in a very early beta state, as documented here, and in the Play Store with the "unreleased" and "unstable beta" batches.

It'll evolve over time, and it'll gain more capabilities. Don't expect everything to work right now, or very soon. It'll be a journey to get it fully functioning, and expose all of MCs functions to the Android/Panel interface.

This is in-development Beta software, so buckle your seat belt and prepare for a rocky ride. If you want a finished product, you'll have to wait some more time until its in a more complete state.

So in short, we do plan to work on all these things, and expose a lot of Media Centers functions to the Android app. Some of them may be addressed soon, some later.

Congrats on your new development JRiver for Android. Lots of things to do still.

I installed it on both my Samsung S8 and tablet S2 (2016) SM-T713 . Registered as dlna server on my jriver laptop. Like you wrote SD card not yet working.

My 16/44 flacs are recognized but unable to play. When playing a song I tried to change the player to the smart TV. The play/pause/stop didn't work any more and it started to play a second song simultaneously. Was not able to stop the song on my phone. When going for the quit it crashed.

Missed the equalizer, . Don't like the looks very much. Its a far cry from Shuttle+,Dbpoweramp or BubbleUpPnP/DLNA. So far I don't see any reason to change these programs and replace it with JRiver for android but maybe you'll improve it with in a couple of years.

That is now working in the next build, maybe today.

Try stopping playback first, switching the output, then playing.  That should work unless the TV has problems.

Uninstalled & reinstalled version 15 & I can now play files from my Synology NAS, except...
1: If I select another file to play the first one does not stop; same for 3rd selection. Will end up with several files playing at the same time.
2: Play, Pause & Next does not want to work in the Taskbar, they do nothing.

But, it's getting there... thanks.

More information... Play, Pause & Next does after all seem to work... partly.
1: When I first load MC for android there seems to be two instances of it running. One where the Play, Pause & Next does nothing.
2: Upon closing the first instance of MC the other instance will allow me to use the Play, Pause & Next buttons on the Taskbar but only if I double click on them. Most strange.

Found I don't have to double-click on them, they are just very slow to act. If I click (once) & wait they will slowly load.

Don't know if it's just my phone (Samsung Galaxy S7) or if it's the app, but though I got JRiver on Android to recognize most of the files on my 400 gb micro-sd card (98% flac + a few mp3s and oggs), it seems to hang at 4,056 of roughly 5,500 files, at least according to the "Recently Imported" playlist; the deficit's not just there, however, as when I go into "Artist," tracks from many albums are not present for some of said artists (e.g., under "Nirvana," I see tracks from only "MTV Unplugged" and "Incesticide," but nothing from "Nevermind," "In Utero," or "Bleach"). I've uninstalled, rebooted, and reinstalled, and both times it got to 4,056 and seemingly stopped adding files, including playlists, as I see none of my own making in the "Playlist" view.

Anyone else having this problem, or is it a known issue? Or is it likely just my phone?

I'm curious if anyone has done extensive battery use testing on JRiver vs other media players.  I did so very casually this week.  For two two-hour periods, I put my phone on airplane mode and used JRiver for one two-hour block and VLC during the other.  The difference was obvious on battery drain, but it was a very unscientific study, so I don't want to post my "results."

Is there anything on the JRiver roadmap to look at this?  I know the product is very young, beta, etc, so my expectations are appropriately set that it doesn't outperform other media apps in all categories.  For instance, with VLC, there was an obvious pop/ skip at each track that wasn't present with JRiver.   I assume in the end that JRiver will take more resources because it's doing a better job.

However, I would really like to see some focus on resource drain.

Different days and the battery was about the same starting both tests (roughly 70%).

EDIT: But like I said, this was far from scientific.  If I was to do this again and want to capture reliable data points, I'd probably come off of a full charge, a restart, and set playback fo a few hours both times.

Just curious, have you guys run any kind of poll to see if MC users are looking for an Android local playback machine or a client that could use theater view and run on Android TV boxes? Maybe it is because I want the client version so I can sit back and use my Harmony remote but I seem to notice lots of users asking for it too. I'm hoping that the current MC on Android will eventually get there. After getting used to MC I don't care for Plex at all and while MO 4Media is my go to remote player the Android TV support is not very good. Honestly I think if the client just ran on the Shield and a couple other popular Android TV boxes you'd have a hit.

Maybe it is because I want the client version so I can sit back and use my Harmony remote but I seem to notice lots of users asking for it too.

Me too. On my Sony Android TV. As long as it supported all formats and HDMI ARC (Audio Return Channel) so that I could output audio from the TV back to a Receiver for full surround sound. That would probably mean that I would have to move some functions to the Receiver though, such as Room Correction, and if it didn't support DSP then that would also have to be moved to the Receiver. I don't really want to do that stuff on a Receiver though. Unless it was a DLNA connection and I could do the DSP on the Server...

I guess there are a few issues to consider. But if I could move the HTPC/Server out of the viewing room and just have the TV and Receiver, or Pre-amp and Amp, in the room, that would be good. But the solution would be great for houses which have multiple TVs all accessing the one MC Server. (That isn't me.) But my brother, who has a Lounge, Kitchen, and Family room TV. Plus used to have bedroom TVs for three kids. He could certainly use it!

Honestly I think if the client just ran on the Shield and a couple other popular Android TV boxes you'd have a hit.

Sony TV, please.

Well, issues like that are always going to arise. Hopefully Sony is being honest and it will be fixed.

But Sony wants to police all media usage everywhere, so it wouldn't be surprising if someone thought they would try to block the application. Wouldn't be hard, despite what Sony says.

Bump on this. Just curious if there's a file limit on the app or on Android, or anything I might try on the phone itself to troubleshoot, or even any logs to send.

Adding my vote to those of rec head and RodrickGI above.
I use a Zidoo X9S Android TV box for music playback on my living room a-v system. I make use of the Kodi media centre app with the native Zidoo remote handset to produce a full screen theatre type display which is easy to navigate from across the room. Zidoo also include a Music app with their boxes but this is hopeless and assigns incorrect artist and song names to most of my tracks. My media is stored both on a external ssd plugged into one of the Zidoo's USB ports and on my NAS.

I'd love to be able to use JR for Android with a theatre style display instead.
Most chargeable Android apps on the Play store allow a time-limited trial period. I wonder if JR for Android might offer this too when the app is officially released?

Wishing you success with the app's development.

Just came back from vacation to try the newest version.

Via USB to dedicated DAC

Android TV: Q10Pro w 10tb WD drive -> LH Labs Revive (USB Reclocker) -> LH Labs Geek Pulse Infinity + LPS4

Phone: LG V20 -> LH Labs Revive (USB Reclocker) -> LH Labs Geek Pulse Infinity + LPS4

Comments:
1. It WORKS!
2. As some have noted, not all of my music are reflected on the database (mostly 44.1/96/192 flac, DSD 64/128/256 files, DXD wav)
3. Could not see my video files. Images yes, videos no.
4. On playing different files, could see in my DAC that is constantly playing at 192khz. JRiver is using the ASL? You need to get around this to have better SQ. UAPP, Neutron MP, HibyMusic have done this.
5. On my Android TV, stutter occurs (processor dependent?) when playing DSD64 and up. Increase buffers?

Via Smartphone only
Comments:
1. It WORKS!
2. As above could not see my video files and some of my music files.
3. Stutters when playing DSD128 and up (definitely processor dependent...) same with DXD wav. Please have option to increase buffers.

Others:
1. Plays 44.1/96/192 Flacs, DSD 64 and DSD 128/256 (with stutters/pause), DXD wav (w/ stutters/pause)
2. Saw entry and playlist of .ISO sacd file. But JRiver crashed when played.
3. Need Folder view.

These are for now will update when have more time.

The original post here lists "playlists" under Future Plans.  I see now I can create a playlist from playing now....  but do future plans include importing MC playlists? …. Hope so!

Fingers crossed you get it playing nicely with Android TV. I use Kodi at the moment for music playback from my NAS but it's a bit clunky. Having it my Shield TV with a remote on my tablet (actually the Yatse remote makes playing music via Kodi significantly more user friendly) would be my ideal solution.

I'll keep an eye on how things go.

Thanks.

24.0.15 should now find media on external drives.

My audio files are all on a microSD card in the phone.  I installed the 24.0.16 release and don't see any audio files.  I keep checking but no files have been imported.

I have not found a command to import from a folder or to start the auto-import process and point it to my audio files.  Documentation please.

FYI.  I'm using the Foobar2000 app and it finds and plays my files just fine.

The files on the SD card need to be in a folder simply called Music - according to some of the postings I have seen. Might not be relevant.

Earlier, JimH said that the current release only looked in the Music folder on the built-in storage.  Does that apply to the MicroSD card as well?

As I said before, some documentation is needed.

I think the audio needs to be in the Music folder on the microSD card.  You could test that by putting a couple of files there.

We intend to improve this.
