Everything installed good (so far) on my Win10 64bit (upgrading from MC25). I still have MC25 on PC, is it safe to uninstall?
Yes.

After installing MC26 I'm getting the message "Warnung: Media Center wurde für ein anderes Betriebssystem installiert." (Warning: MC has been installed for a different operating system).

I have installed the correct 64 bit MC version on my Win 10 machine. Tried it many times: deinstalled everthing (MC25 too), restarted, reinstalled, tried it again as an admin - to no avail.

The only thing that helps, is using the compatibility mode for Win 8 under properties/compatibility. Problem and solution can be reproduced on my machine.

BTW: There is an old thread from February 15, 2011, 01:24:31 pm with that exact message from user Ver.di who upgraded from MC5 to MC16
He found a fix, but only for Win 7, not for Win 10 (Reply #14 on: February 17, 2011, 04:35:22 am):

================================

Fixed it:  ;D

For a normal install, the version of the OS is in the registry here:
HKLM\Software\JRiver\Media Core\Installations\Media Center 16

For Windows 7, you should see:
OS Version: 10

But the installer wrote 7.
I changed it with regedit to 10 and now it works fine"

================================

In my registry the value of OS Version is 1010.

Same thing happened after installing JRiver Media Center 26.0.15 (Warning: MC has been installed for a different operating system). The registry entry has been automatically updated by the installation with a false OS value.

I can only start Mediacenter either in compatibilty mode or by changing the registry manually.

I know how I can help myself. But this issue should be fixed!

This would only happen if you run the installer in compatibility mode, as Windows then lies to it which version it actually is. Don't do that, and it won't write a wrong value.
We're not aware of any other reports of this nature.

I didn't run the installer in comp mode.

I just upgraded from MC24 to MC26.0.20 and am running into an issue with some of my settings not being brought into MC26, such as the Media Network settings (DLNA is disabled, even though it shows as enabled if I open MC24 pointing to the same library.

Doing a backup of the prior library in MC24 and then a restore in MC26 seems to have fixed this problem.  I am having a problem with JRemote crashing on both my iPad Pro and iPhone XS when trying to play any video file (which was also happening in MC24 recently) but I’ll pursue that in a separate thread.

Edit:  MC26 was released on December 13, 2019.  It's on the Download Page now.

Download it.  You may find a newer build in a thread near the top of the MC26 board.  Look for "JRiver Media Center 26 ..... Available Here".

Install it from the thread near the top of this board, titled something like this:

"JRiver Media Center 26.0.18 -- Available Here"

Restore your MC26 license.  Here's how to find your license and restore it.

MC26 should find your current library and use it.  If not, then back up in your old version and restore the backup in the new version.  Backup is under the File Menu.  MC makes automatic backups as .zip files.

That's it.  You should be up and running in a few minutes.  If you need to ask a question, please post here.

HOW GOOD IS MC26?
It's already a significant improvement over MC25, and there are some very useful features, but we've just begun.  Your MC26 license will work with all future updates of MC26.  Read more on Upgrades.

LICENSE QUESTIONS
How Licensing Works is also explained in the links above.  You can recover your license by using option #2 on our Restore Page.

Sorry for the dumb questions, but my IT skills are weak.  I have J River MC 22 on my old Windows 7 Laptop.  The FLAC files are all on an external 2 TB hard drive.  I now need to get J River on my new Windows 10 laptop (presumably MC 26?).

How do I best do this and retain all the stuff I've put into the system (> 1,200 CDs)?  I'd like to retain MC-22 on the old laptop as a backup if that's possible.  Please be as explicit as you can with your response.

Thank you for your help.

Copy the files any way you can, and try to keep them in the same directory in the same arrangement.  C:\Music as an example.

Then backup your MC22 library on your old machine and restore it on your new one.

The wiki has a topic called Moving Files.

Jim,

Thanks for your response.  I think I understand the issue about moving files.  They're easy since they're on a couple of hard drives, and I understand about keeping the same file structure.

I'm not sure I understand how to get the new MC on the new laptop though.  Do I need to somehow transfer MC 22 itself from the old latptop, or can I just download the MC 26? to the new laptop and have it "find' the files on the hard drive?  I don't think my problem is moving the FLAC files, they're going to stay on the hard drive anyway.  Am I wrong?

Thanks again.

You can upgrade to MC26 if you wish and restore a backup from any recent version, including MC22.

Jim,     Thanks.  Sorry for the additional questions.  I've begun by making a copy of my MC 22 from the old laptop onto an external hard drive.  The folder that I copied is labelled "Media Center 22".  I've then copied and pasted that folder from the external drive into "Program Files" on the new laptop.  This seems to have gone OK, and I can see the folder (and it's subfolders if I look) on the new laptop.

If I click on it though, it doesn't open the MC 22.  How do I do that?  All this is in preparation to upgrade.  Am I going about this all wrong?

Thanks again.

Don't copy any program files from your old machine.  Just install MC22 and restore your library and your license, then upgrade to MC26.  You can probably just install MC26, and restore your license and library, then purchase the upgrade.

Jim,  Please bear with me.  I've upgraded to MC 26 and downloaded to my new laptop.  Now, when I try to restore the library, as you suggest, it tells me that I don't have a valid option.  I guess I need to somehow get the library off my old laptop?  Do I do this under "load a library" or some other option?

Thanks again

Backup in MC22 on your old machine.  Note the location of the backup zip file. Copy the zip file to your new machine and restore from it.

There are wiki topics.  Here's one:

OK. I've done this, and I seem to have MC 26 running on the new laptop, with the retored library (from the zip file).

However, when I plug in the external hard drive, the tracks won't play because the external hard drive was labelled as E: by the old laptop, but the new laptop calls this external drive D:   Can I get my local library to look on drive D: for the audio files instead of looking for them on drive E:?

How can I point the library to the D: drive?  Thanks.  I tiied changing Tools>Options>File Location, but that doesn't work for the playback.  Thanks again

The wiki topic on Moving Files suggest a Find and Replace that will work.

People sometimes make removable drives Z: to avoid this problem.

Hi,

Just bought an upgrade for my master license from 25 to 26. Received the email with the license. Installed v26, install ran fine, got new 26 icon on my desktop. Double-click reg file and received mesage saying license was successfully installed.
Run Media Centre.... still version 25...?

Tried new download from forum post (latest build)... same thing
Tried several time, but always when run it is 25.

I have now used media centre to back up my library... just in case.

Do i need to uninstall v25 and then install v26 and restore my library?

Dear Everybody!

I have bought MC24 originally. It worked fine.
Next time I bought MC26 in pre-order period. It worked fine. (I got MC26xxx.mjr in that case.)
I had to reinstall operation system, Windows 7 (Yes, I know!). MC26 installed, I fill out Registration code in MC26 and I got MC24xxx.mjr file from wave. It does not work with MC26 of course.
I tried with MC24, it works fine.
Some pictures of steps attached.

What did I wrong? What is the problem? Who can I restore MC26?

Hi:  What is easiest way to have all your playlists and smartlists  from v25 appear in v26, preferably have 26 show exactly those that were in 25 after upgrade to 26.  After install, the tracks/albums etc. did not move after the upgrade.  I restored a saved backup, and those appeared, but playlists/smartlist still only showed the default lists.  Also skins did not restore.  Possible I needed to install 26 in exact same folder?

Thanks

I just upgraded to MC26 from MC23.  I see my libraries in MC26 (I uninstalled MC23 after the MC26 install was complete).  The license was successfully "applied".  However, I have no audio thru my system.  I can see the files playing in MC26, but, as I said, no audio thru my system.  I made no changes during the install.  Any suggestions?
Thanks,

If you're using ASIO, you may have a 32 bit driver.  If so, the 32 bit version of MC might be required.  But try Direct Sound or WASAPI first.

I have the 64-bit version (which I believe I had with MC23 as well).  I had been (and still have it selected) WASAPI.  I noticed the under playing now I have a grey arrow for Player (which "sees" my audio-video files; they "play" but with no sound).  I also have Playing from Main Library whose path is not leading to the audio-video files.  It looks like I may have to re-import the files in order to play them.  Any reason why MC 26 did not re-establish the Libraries?

Found the archived zip files for MC 23 (and every other version I've owned).  After deleting the "new" library I restored the most recent MC 23  backup.  Unfortunately I still have no audio.  I can watch the progress of the track being played (both in time and in volume).  The time progress is in blue and the audio is in yellow.  I don't know if there's any significance to this observation since I've always played from the Theater view.
Still plugging...

Got my audio back.  PC audio setting had somehow changed during the upgrade process.  I found an "extra" extension in Google which I disabled and gave me back my PC audio (that had disappeared also).  I had to redo setting in PC sound and that was the solution.

Thanks again Jim for helping me with my email mess.
So - I have four old JR licenses:
Win 18, Win 19, Master 21 and Mac 25.
I'm senior on fixed income. Don't want to spend w/o good reason.
I use MC in audio-only mode.
Was using Macbook only for five years until new employer required Win OS
for application for work from home. So thought might as well install JR on my new Win notebook.
What to do? I could install Win 21 as have that old Masters license, but 21 is old - right?
What version concensus recommended for Win OS that's stable for audio-only use?
Thinking those JR Win 18, 19 licenses I have, might as well forget 'em - they're really old.
Concerned if use Win 21, about stability and about security. Guessing older versions no longer updated. I've been advocating for audio-only "lite" version of JR for years, but seems I'm out
of touch. Users today want it all within an application.
We old timers can be a real PITA. I get that!

There's no need for this. Newer Media Center versions have an option called Audio Only Mode, which when enabled disables all the extra features like video, images, etc. Plus you can go into MC's Options > General > Features and disable features you don't need/want. You should be able to do that in MC21 and disable all the extra features you don't want.

I am having similar problems as others. Upgraded to MC 26. After download and entering registration key and all of that it looks like a successful install. Then I close MC and try to reopen and I get the message"Media Center was installed for a different operating system. Please reinstall Media Center . " I tried that 5 times so far and no change.
I am running Windows 10 and 64bit system, and I downloaded the Windows 64 bit version. Is it mislabelled on the download page? What can I do? I shouldn't have to manually fuss with registry files to do this...been using MC for 10+ years and never seen this one before.

I am having big problems to re-install my JRiver 26.I had to unstaill it yesterday and since last night I've benn trying (without success) to re-install it. I've tryied both 32 and 64 (mine is 64), turned my anti virus off, excluded the extensions.../don't know what else I can do.

What happens is: a) I click to download and media center asks me to execute. I do. then the board extracting shows up and finaly that message asking me if I allow Media Center to make changes in my computer and, of course I do  (allow). after that, nothing happens! nothing. The app is in m download file but it is not installed on the computer. I tried to excute it administrator and all the process will be repeated. Don´t know what else to do.

Still probably antivirus / security related.

What does this mean?

Longtime happy user of MC24 for Windows, purchased MC26 months ago and finally getting up the nerve to install it and check it out, which I did last night. It automatically loaded all my library views and files, playlists, etc from the existing version.  :)

My question is, what about all the various player settings I spent many hours tweaking in MC24 to my liking: four different playback zones with different audio outputs to two different DACs, different DSP settings, zone switch rules, etc... Am I going to have to manually recreate all those settings in MC26 if I want it to perform like MC24? Because if that is the case, then I think I will be sticking with what works. I know there are lots of new features with every new version (except for the one feature I really truly want, that being support for streaming Qobuz Studio which I had to go out and buy a competing software player for), but I'm not sure if I really need or want any of those features if it means more work for me manually copying all the settings from the older version into the newer one. :-\

Try restoring a backup from your old version.  Settings should transfer.

Try putting your media on a USB stick and plugging it into the Shield.

Do you mean a library backup? I don't know what media you're referring to or what is meant by the Shield. (Sorry, I'm a bit of a dummy-level user).
