Hey thanks. Now when I have mp3s on my PC that actually give me back more hard drive space, I'll know exactly how much I'm getting! Before, I could never really tell.

It's for a new data compressor we're working on that actually takes negative space.  This is all we've got so far.

This "bug" (unless it's a feature....) has been around forever.

I have Media Scheduler disabled.

I select Options, and do nothing other than click Okay.

Media Scheduler starts.  I disable it.

Repeat.

Media Scheduler starts again.

How can I totally disable it?

MC keeps trying to open the download manager to play ASX files

I don't have download manager associated with any files.

Take a careful look at the file associations you have set in MC.  I think the option you need to uncheck is "always take control...".

I don't think this is a bug, per se, but for the first time in eons, the MC installer is asking me to restart Windows.  Did something change?

I am sure that this is a *me* thing and not a *you* thing, but it is quite odd because I literally have not run MC in over a week, and my machine has gone through many reboots since that time.  :-\

You guys added support for Audible files over Media Server!  Thank you for doing this.  Did you mention this in the lists of changes recently?  If so, I must have missed it.

The only "odd" thing about playing Audible files now is that the Playing Now screen says "visualizations for this file type are not supported" even when you aren't displaying any visualizations (this is even if you aren't using Media Server.)  Even when trying to display track info with one of the simplest display schemes, it still says "visualiztions not available."

Thanks again for supporting Audible playback over Media Server.

Trust it -- it knows when it needs to restart.

It's normally the Explorer shell extensions.

I just burned a new mp3 CD and popped it in my player and discovered that even though I had the songs shuffled in the playlist I burned, the songs burned in Artist order on the disc.  I can live with it since I can set the player to random and still get them shuffled, but I would rather it just burn them in the order I have them selected.  That way I can use the forward/back on the stereo (they just select a random track in random mode, and can repeat tracks also).

JustinChase,

If you have 'Burn CD...' in action window:
- click on 'Options' --> 'CD/DVD File Naming' --> 'Custom'
- define the file naming and
- check 'Prefix the list order to the CD filename'.

The checkbox does the trick.

I did not notice the option for what order to burn them in.  I will re-burn a disc today with the "Original" option, and see if that works.

Thanks for the help :D

I almost forgot (actually, I did forget, but re-burning the disc has reminded me) I have a smartlist that picks favorites up to 700mb of data, which gives me about 110-115 files to burn on a data disc..  In this case it's 112 tracks worth 696 mb of data for 10:26:54 hours of music.  Obviously below the 700mb limit.  However, MC says I have more data selected than will fit on the disc.  I think it said 20mb (or so) over limit.  It burns fine, finishes fine, and plays fine, but the warning did make me want to change the smartlist to avoid making a coaster.  As I assume it does to others also.

Thanks

JustinChase,

That's a known MC feature...I reported it as a bug a zillion times, but it remains...so, just consider it a silly MC feature and ignore it (that's what I've learned to do).

The disc burned with the option for the CD/DVD File Naming set to "Same as Original" still burned the files in artist order.

I can't use the custom field, because that needs to put the files in some order, and I want no order.  Does it really matter?  Probably not.  But it seems like it should work.

Oh well.  What can you do :P

I am not sure if this is some sort of option I hit or not....

When MC is diplayed you can not change applications. You have to minimize mc first...

Even Alt Tab doesn't switch apps...

Any idea's?

I created a playlist last night in .92, and attemped to burn 4 audio cds from it.  The first failed with a 'key sense' error, the next with 'not enough space on CD in calibration area' (or something similar), and the next two worked fine.

Or so I thought until I went to play them - they each had the correct number of tracks, and each track was the correct length - but each track was silent.

I have burned dozens of CDs in 10.x.  The only other burning software I have installed is Nero 6, and it works fine.

BTW - I reported that the DVD burning function (on a different drive, but same computer) also failed.

Now, I'm already braced for the possibility of an 'it's your hardware', but since the same batch of CDs works fine in the same computer and the same drive, I'm wondering if it could be something in MC?

Hello, thiis is Ralph. I'm new to the forum and the program. I just purchased Media Center 10.0 and am wondering why the burner keeps giving me "Invalid Field in cdb" especially if  I'm trying to burn an mp3/data disc over 40-50 files/tracks in length? It happens occasionally with a wav/audio cd but more with the mp3's. Is this a bug or what? I'd love to know.... ? ?

The lack of the "Retrieving file list" message when highlighting an iPod is discomforting.  It used to be that when highlighting an iPod, you'd immediately saw a window that showed the files on the iPod being counted.  This was a nice indication that MC was actually "doing something" during this time.  Now that this window has been eliminated, MC just seems to hang for a few moments.  It's not all that long, but the more files on the iPod, the longer this "pause."  I don't understand why the "count up" was eliminated when it actually served a purpose without any drawbacks that I can see.

Any chance that this window will be re-instated?

Problem with iPod:

I just transfered several audiobooks to the iPod. Each one reported errors uploading some of the files. Checking the iPod, the files were there. Listening to them however revealed that the file listed in the database belonged to a different book completely.

I have re-verified this. Every single file that reports and error in uploading shows up in the database attached to the wrong file. For instance, uploading 250 files from "Up Country" reports that file 119 had an error. Listening to file 119 reveals that it is in fact track one from "Odd Thomas".

Larry,

I cannot replicate this. The wait dialogue should show unless the process takes less than a milisecond.

ZRocker,

This is fixed.

JGourd,

Sounds like a library problem. Can you play the erroring files correctly in MC?

Thanks Fex, but the Custom option still requires me to put them in some kind of order, and I was trying to make them completely random.  So it still doesn't work.
The next build has a Shuffle option on the context menu (right-click) when you're viewing the file list to be burned. However, to keep these in the order you see them in the list, you must choose custom file naming and check the "prefix list order" option. Also, all the tracks should be in the root directory of the CD (or at least in the same folder), otherwise the player will play the folders in alpha order. Let me know if this isn't going to work for you (and why?).

Thanks John!

Just to clarify, in the "Custom..." dialog, it gives me some preset rules, along with the option to set up my own naming scheme, but if I check the "Prefix the list order to the CD filename" box, it will disregard the naming options, and just use the original list order?

If that's correct, then I'm good.  Otherwise, the option to shuffle the list would work great too, as long as it burns the files in that order.

Thanks again for the immediate attention you guys often give to these types of things.

If only you guys could implement EVERY idea/suggestion so quickly ;)

Larry,

I cannot replicate this. The wait dialogue should show unless the process takes less than a milisecond.

Steve

So you're saying that when you highlight the iPod, it is still supposed to show the "count up" of files?  This stopped on my system as of several builds ago.  Now it just pauses for several seconds during this period, then the file list displays.  Are you sure this hasn't changed.

Thanks,

Larry
