Problem with importing
« on: March 03, 2007, 01:04:05 pm »

I have some problems with importing MP3-files. I have imported 8500 files and that works well. I have put 100 files in a directory on my HD and the autoimport function does not work. After that I will import manually and MC found no file (?). Maybe I am doing something wrong, but I hope you can help me.

Double check that you've set the file types to be imported correctly.  Also that you didn't check "Exclude this folder".

I have double-double-checked, but no difference. When I copy a new file to a new directory, than import is sucesfull for that file.

In MC, try a search for one of the files that isn't imported.   Once in a while, they get filed under the wrong media type.

Also get the build that is just out tonight (185).  At the top of this board.

Were the files previously deleted?  Or are they very small?

Of course I will install the new version.

The files were not previously deleted but are small (jingles of radio stations, so between 3 and 30 seconds). I mean the new files, the rest of the library are normal files.

It is not the wrong media type, all MP3.

One of the options for import is to ignore small files.  Please double check the settings you have for the directory you're importing.

In the options, choose the folder you want, and edit it.  Open the "Advanced" option.  You'll see filetypes being imported and two checkboxes at the bottom.  It's one of those two.

Edit -- sorry it isn't there.  I'm not sure if we've removed it.

Youll be there in a moment.

But to the person above, try turning off the auto import. (tools/auto import opt., remove watch folders)

then try a manual import (tools/import folder)

and see if it adds them.

He sent me a PM.  He's gone for a snooze.  Holland?

Sometimes we are snoozing in Holland. ;D
And during my snooze my topic has become a chatbox.  :)

Okay, manual import gave no result so I've made my library empty and import the files again. That has succeeded. After that I put a file in one of the folders and I've waited for a few minutes. But no autoimport of that file. When I do Start Autoimport I get the message "Library has now" and than the number of files + 1. But number of imported files 0.

I think that Autoimport means full watching of my folders and not Start Autoimport manually?

Try unchecking "Ignore files previously removed".

Try importing a few manually.  Does that work?

Ignoring files previously removed gives no other result.

For importing manually see my post of tomorrow:

When I do Start Autoimport I get the message "Library has now" and than the number of files + 1. But number of imported files 0.

Under Options/General, turn "shell integration" on.

Then use Windows Explorer and right click on the file, choose Media Center, then Import.  Does that work?

That's good.  That means one of three things:

1.  The file is corrupt.
2.  The file has already been imported (search for it by name in MC)
3.  There is a bug in MC12.

Can you play the file?

File is not corrupt. I have tried different files and the result is the same.

I have not imported these files earlier, but I don't think it is a bug in MC12. I am the only person with this problem (I hope)? In case of a bug many persons should have asked the same question.

Yes, I can play the files with MC 12 and other players.

Is it useful to send you my reg-file, so you can see if my settings are right?

A few minutes ago I deleted one file and that works well.

When you started over with a new library, did you clear the old one?  Under File/Library.

If it were mine, I might try uninstalling, removing registry entries, and reinstalling.

I'm out of ideas.

Yes, I clear the old one.

Yesterday I have did a re-install, but without cleaning the registry. Maybe the last option.  :-\

I have deleted eight files now and auto-importfunction works well. So the problem is importing new files.

These are small files?  They are never imported?  If you could summarize the triage to this point that would be great.

Okay. It's a MP3-collection of 10.000 files, so files between 4 and 20 MB. When I delete some files out of my folder the files are gone from the MC list within a short time. But when I put some files into my folder the files doesn't appear in the MC list. So this function don't work in my MC.

The other thing is downloading covers function Cover Art). Every time the program stops after a few minutes. So it's impossible to download all my covers from the internet.

I hope it's clear. ;)

I believe the "small files" option Jim was referring to (much) earlier was incorporated into the "Ignore Special files" option.  Try running it with that unchecked.

This is really quite odd.  Another thing that could (possibly) help is to enable Import logging and post a log (use the Code tag around it to keep the log file reasonable).

To enable logging, go to Help --> Logging.  Enable Output to a log file.  Then under types of events, check everything (or at least especially General, Playback, Database, and Import).  Click "reset log file" and then Ok and then immediately run the manual import.  Go back into Help --> Logging and see what you get under the Current Log...

Last night I forced MC to auto update, MC became Non-Responsive, i let it go over night, MC was Still Non-Responsive.

this has not been the first time, MC has been non-responsive when forcing a import (it happens quite often for me).

The "small size option"was a misunderstanding:

I think you might have misunderstood me.  I read, and understood, what Jim wrote.

I think (and I most certainly could be wrong) I remember that the option he was thinking of was merged into the Ignore Special Files option some time ago.  Have you tried a manual Tools --> Run Auto Import Now with this option de-selected?  If not, please try de-selecting that option and forcing a search.  It may not work, but it may very well...

Try creating a new empty library (don't clone it), and importing the files into the new library. Do they work there?

The latin name is Parus Major, I don't know the name in English (do they live in America?)

I have tried the way you meant with the library. All files are coming in my library, but the files in the "second round" are not coming in library.
