Maybe I'm just a boring person but I think that JRiver should use the modern metric system and not English units (foot, inch...).

Thank you! :)

There is an option in the language menu, Tools -> Language -> Metric Measurement System, that switches them over.

192,000 Hz

should be added in the translation file. In french (and in many countries) we use the comma as a decimal mark (see here).

They'll be there next build.  Thanks.

I really wouldn't call that a problem or a bug.

Sometimes we label like "4 seconds" and sometimes we label like "4sec".  Both seem fine to me.

Well, if the unit is second, it's symbol is s not sec. As for meter, the symbol is m not met. You can call me a grammar nazi but there are rules for this: we can translate a unit and its symbol, not an abbreviation that doesn't exist in the dictionnary.

And the spacing is recommended. Wikipedia says: The International System of Units, or SI, recommends a space between a number and its units, as well as between units in the case of compound units, but never between a prefix and the basic unit. The style guide of the English-language Wikipedia contains the same recommendations and advises to use a non-breaking space.

    5.0 cm not 5.0cm or 5.0 c m
    45 kg not 45kg or 45 k g
    32 °C not 32°C or 32° C
    20 kN m not 20 kNm or 20 k Nm.)

Alright, we'll try to remember that space.  But it's not guaranteed that it'll be everywhere for a while.

I think it's not clear that there should be a space.

Quote

    45 kg not 45kg or 45 k g
    32 °C not 32°C or 32° C

I don't think those are worth chasing, except for the k g.

I had a look to the CD Ripping windows and many translations don't exist. (see attachements):
Rip
Track
files
Close

Unknown Artist and Unknown Album have specific strings in the translation file (for Pono) but they are not used. Could you also add these strings for translation:
Unknown Genre
Unknown Date

In the Secure Rip Report window, the majority of the strings have no translation (the window title need one too). Could you change the OK button to Close by the way?

Thank you!

New (and fun) crash!

1. Install JRiver Media Center (tested on Windows 10 64 bits)
2. Don't install a printer
3. Click on Print List in JRiver Media Center Toolbar
4. JRiver Media Center crashes immediatly

Expected behaviour: a warning message exists but is not used. (see attachement)

Casiophil,
We do appreciate your work, but please don't give us the questionable ones, like order of words or capitalization.

Some day we will hire robots to do development work and then things will be different.

Thanks,

Casiophil,

Some day we will hire robots to do development work and then things will be different.

Thanks,

Jim

I understand that some requests look like details but they aren't.

First because JRiver Media Center is a software for power users; The number of options and customizations are huge. Users should not be lost when a new window opens, sentences have to be clear.
The risk is that people always prefer the english version because they don't understand the meaning in french, german or japanese if the words are not ordered in theses languages. With good translations, you can also target professionnal users.

Secondly, I often correct capitalization because Monster StreamCast, PonoRevealer or YADB are trademarks that should be respected. I don't think it is questionable. Units of measurement are not the same with or without capitalization (MB or Mb).

Translation is no fun. But believe me when I say these details are not minor for foreign languages (something you cannot imagine when you only use the english version). I add in attachement two examples: in french we don't say 1258 lectures total (1:04:17 il y a) but 1258 lectures au total (il y a 1:04:17). We dont say vendredi, septembre 25 but vendredi 25 septembre. Allow us to change the words order can make a translation.

So, i's up to you to choose the priorities for JRiver. I only propose corrections you could follow or not, I'm not here to bother you. A great work has been done for translation in the last versions but what is remaining can not be easily fixed (see units).

The window Schedule guide reloading has zero shade of grey and its behaviour is confusing:

Open the window for the fisrt time: the scheduling time isn't greyed out.
Check then uncheck the option Automatically load the program guide this way everyday in the background, the scheduling time turns grey.
Expected behaviour: you should not be able to choose a scheduling time before allowing the guide reloading.

Below, the option Run selected profiles Now is checked even when you have any selected profile.
Uncheck the option then click OK and reopen the window: the box is still checked.
Expected behaviour: Run selected profiles Now should be checked but greyed out when no profile exist or is selected.

It seems that the Auto size width option expands too much. The width becomes much wider that the names of my albums, artists or playlists. The option is usefull but it takes too much space on my screen without explanation.

Could it be a bug?

It leaves a little extra space because the titles become bold when the song is playing.  It's not much extra space though, so it really shouldn't be annoying.

OK, I put my screen in attachement. The longest album title I have is Dances With Wolves: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack. All other menus are closed, Auto size width is turned on.

When I open the album list via the menu, the spacing to the right of the title seems very big. 20% of the line is empty for this album title (without bold). Same with my playlists.

That string is already marked for translation.  You might just be missing it from your translation file if it hasn't been updated from the source code recently.  Just add it by hand.

Well that's just because the other same sentences use one space:
Secure rip canceled. [%s]
Secure rip failed. [%s]
Secure rip, %d%% of sectors needed re-reading. [%s]

Other question : can I use one translation for bit-perfect and bit-exact or have these expressions different meanings?

Be careful! The word Country has one meaning in english but two meanings for the other languages: it can be a location (pays in french) or a music style (country in french).

The translation file should propose two strings to keep the distinction.

It can have two meanings in English, as well.  "I'm going to the country." means that you're leaving town.

"Countryside" has that same meaning.
