I'm excited to see this since I've been having playback issues on lots of files on my iPhone with JRemote!

I've got Panel to work fine on my local computer.  When I browse to it on my iPhone, I am able to see all the artists, albums, cover art and songs, but when I tap to play a song, I just get a spinning wheel.

However, Gizmo on my iPhone works fine and it looks exactly like the Panel iPhone interface.  Are they the same thing?

Panel uses WebGizmo, so yes, they are the same.  I don't know why it isn't working.  Perhaps both were open?

Hi,
This is so awesome!
Got the port forwarding done on router, got the firewall port open for 52199.

Now I can listen to my music at work!!!

Thank you for the great work!!

Any plan on making the web-based panel secured (user login based)?

That shouldn't happen until it supports HTTPS/TLS. Otherwise passwords are exposed in plaintext "over the wire".

This also happens to be the case for regular client based traffic and should be done to secure both. I leave the port open on my end, but I cringe thinking about that.

I guess that I know what my "evil twin" would do now --- sniff the port 52199 everywhere  ;D

Loaded the new version with high hopes.

I am still looking for a way to add a song to playing now. If I click into a song I would like to be able to "add to playing now", "add as next to play", etc. Also - please a way to change the rating of the song?

I am hoping this is possible but I'm just missing it someplace?

Thanks!

Not sure if this is a bug or just a quirk:

Panel appears to have replaced the "top page" of webgizmo (i.e. when you press Audio in panel it appears to take you to the same destination that pressing Audio in the top page of webgizmo used to do, etc.).  However, once you've navigated down into webgizmo below the top level panel, pressing the home button takes you to the old webgizmo top page rather than back to panel.

This means on a touchscreen kiosk-style interface (i.e. one without a hardware back button) there's no way to get back to panel once you've navigated down into audio or video.  It seems like the home button should return to panel.

Here are a couple of possible solutions I see.  I'm interested in your comments.

1.  Remove or skip the home page of WebGizmo so we use the Panel home page instead.  This would require adding Search to it, which is probably a good idea anyway.
OR
2.  Add a back arrow button right next to the home button.  It would just go up one level in the menu instead of going home.

I think both would be quite good.  If I had to choose one, I would choose 2) as the back button would be much more useful for kiosk-type displays generally (and some tablets); i.e. three levels deep in a view, you'd be able to step back one level instead of having to go "home" and start over.  But honestly I think both would be solid improvements.

Playing with Panel and am seeing the same usability issue that I have when trying to use JRemote to control things. When I start a video that has been previously viewed it comes up (per my settings) asking if I want to restart or resume. There is no way to make the selection other than putting down the device and reaching for the remote. In other apps (for other video players) the 'continue/resume' prompt appears on screen in the app and allow you to make a selection there.

Hi,
Just loaded MC22 - very nice. I tried the new Panel and it comes up on all types of devices so far. However, clicking on any button ("Now Playing" or "Audio" for instance) results in a blank screen even using localhost on the Mac mini sever itself. I must be missing something. Idea?

Thanks,

I tried panel the other day on my HTC One M8 Android phone. Connected to my server by vpn and streamed music just fine while out walking the dog.

I noticed that whenever I used a Firefox browser tab other the one in which panel was running. the playback become choppy and erratic. As soon as I switched back to the tab in which panel was running, playback smoothed right out.

Not sure where in the chain this is happening, but probably something in phone, browser or panel app, since music otherwise streams okay. Now that I think of it, same problem using chrome browser, so probably phone or panel app.

Awesome. It works like a charm.

I changed Audio Conversion however from MP3 Highbandwith to PCM 24. A remarkably audible difference.

Ok, got the Panel to come up with http://localhost:52199 on my Mac.  Didn't realize I had to turn on Tools>Options>Media Network, which was off by default with my installation.
However clicking on any button on the Panel just takes me to a blank empty page ...

The Panel settings page for Mac was not implemented when 22.0.13 was released. It will be available in the next Mac build.

I'm sorry, but I deleted weust's post by mistake.  I was able to find it:

-------------
I just updated my Intel NUC running Ubuntu Server 16.04.1 LTS so it now runs MC22.
Checking the forums I noticed there finally is a web interface (at least, finally that I know about anyway).

I barely use my iPad anymore, except to control MC when I want to stream some music from my NAS.
So a webinterface it great for me. But I do notice there is a whole lot of work to be done to replace the iPad app.

Rather then listing everything I am missing right now, because I feel that might be added along the way, are a few options that might be overlooked. And I hope those could be implemented.

1. Use the sorting settings. I only use MC for audio playback, and in the program I have the Albums as default view.
I also customized the sorting to first sort by Album Artist, and then by Year.
It would be very nice to see that in Panel as well.

2. Settings options. Right now it shows not a single settings, but I would like to see options to I can go straight to Albums instead of clicking through several menu's before getting there.

3. Search bar. A search bar in the current view (Artists, Albums, wherever you are at that moment) would be very nice.

Think that is it for now.

One thing that kinda bugs me is that I have to go through several pages of my albums, instead of them being loaded all on the same page.

I'm using Panel on my iPhone for audio, using the native Safari browser.  When I choose an album and press "Play All," only the first track of the album will play, then I get an endlessly spinning disc icon.  I can press the back button in my browser and choose any single track in the album and it will play.

Am I missing a setting somewhere?

Other than figuring out how to make "Play All" work, my wish list for Panel mostly is about improving navigation through a large library.  It certainly is not easy with the current multi-page setup.

A "Search" function would be a great help.  Also, a compact row view with a vertical A,B,C, etc. index like that used in Remote would be great.

Is it/will it be possible to have Panel trigger a REST call to a non-JRiver product? Or is it only intended to control the JRiver ecosystem?

Sending commands to any hardware/hub that Engen doesn't yet support. In this specific case, controlling lights managed by Loxone (hardwired lighting control vs Z-Wave/Zigbee). I'd love to have JRiver manage everything, but I only want to have one interface on the touchscreens. My current plan was to use Dashing or similar to make an interface that could REST to JRiver and Loxone (and whatever else), but it looks like it would potentially be much more convenient to use Panel as the front end instead of having to REST to JRiver.

Hurm. That seems way more focused on smaller vertical screens with much fewer/less buttons/information per screen. Is there intended to be more convergence as far as GUI down the line?

What I'm looking for is something along the lines of the below, but integrated instead of having to set up REST calls to Media Server for everything manually.

I'm going to move this to a new thread.

Panel's lighting menu gives you what you have above for lighting.

What it doesn't do are:

Weather
and
Cameras

We may add weather.  We will add cameras, but probably not before the end of the year.

Lighting only if you use Zwave though, right? Not a fan of wireless control of something as critical as lights. Anyway, sounds like the answer is I should stick with my current plan. Thanks.

Does seem to be an interesting decision. Even Adobe has declared Flash as EOL. HTML5 is the way to go and is supported by all major browsers. Of course there are some gotcha's with video formats etc still, but there are plenty of toolkits that make it a no brainer.

Ah I see now. It just drops to WebGizmo for the playing part. That is older code so not surprised it's Flash. Needs updating though if you want to work well on IOS etc.

Cool!

Not managed to try this out until now. Lots of potential on this given the cross browser and cross device functionality.

Tried it in various configs - localhost, internal and external IP, internal and external FQDM. Windows 10 machines and Android devices - all work as intended.

Of course coming in via external method my port forward rule takes precedence (so goes to my server rather than the main internal client).

Some observations:

1. Playing now volume control slider is not smooth - only operates in steps

2. The 'home' button whilst in Playing now mode takes one to the original Gizmo home rather than to the Panel home. Fully understood why that is (inherited Gizmo code) but a user would now expect to get back to Panel home.

3. At times the Playing now details not updated automatically (say when I change tracks directly on the playing machine).

What would be super good is if Panel can start to copy the great JRemote functionality and interface.

In Panel -> Web Remote -> Playing Now, is it possible to have a Fullscreen/Windowed mode switch? Every time I play a video using Panel, it starts in Windowed mode (Standard view); or if I play the video from PC and stop it from Panel (using phone) and then play again, it starts in Windowed mode.

There is. No oversight at all. My thoughts are - do a bit of a search and ye shall find. From Panel:
Web Remote > Library > Search

The keyword box is at the top right of the screen - refer attached pic.

Any reason not to have "Search" right on the Panel main screen?

Fair suggestion. FWIW, you've got my vote.

I can't possibly be the only one with a sizeable music library who doesn't want to scroll alphabetically to get to an Artist, Album or Song!
