Samsung TV as dlna player/renderer ->
« on: November 18, 2017, 01:15:52 pm »

Hi together,

When I try to use my Samsung KS8090 to use as a media player/renderer, I get an error message:
"There was a problem controlling the selected dlna device. Double-check your device, server and network settings."

I use the standard dlna settings in mc23.
The IP's are fixed and I can see my TV in the "play now" section.
I also see the mc media server in my TV and can connect to it. I also can play music, using the mc as dlna server, starting the playing from my TV.

Find below a extract from the log. Not sure if this could help and if this extract is the correct one. Find the log also attached to this thread.

Please download the DMR Analyzer from my sig, and post the renderer report here..

Hi,

Thanks for the reply.

The renderer needed windows detecktion for deteckting my Samsung TV.
But the test was successful!  :D
So it seems to be up to the settings in mc23.

Would be perfect, if you could give me a hint, which settings I have to apply.

EDIT:
Meanwhile I checked to send pictures to the TV. That worked. But I was not able to send neither music nor videos in mc23 over dlna to the TV.
Next EDIT:
MKV video container could be sent to the TV.
So the questions would probably be:
  • Which files have to be converted to be sent to the TV over dlna?
  • Where can I configure mc23 to convert video streams to another format before sending over dlna? I only found "client options" with the ability to convert.

Many thanks for your help!  :)

Conversion is set for each server.  Media Network > Add or Edit Servers.

But the test was successful!  :D

Actually it was not successful :( -- the report says "Play test file result=Play failed => Time out" -- this means that a proper state change message has not been seen. Since both MC and the DMRA encounter the same error then basically this tells us that the problem is either

1) the Samsung TV not sending its status change event callbacks to the PC, or
2) your network router not routing event callbacks from the TV to the PC (are the TV, PC, and router on the same subnet?, are there duplicate IP addresses?), or
3) a firewall on your PC blocking incoming event callbacks from the TV

The fact that the DMRA only worked when Windows Discovery was enabled, makes me think that Windows Defender (or another firewall application) may be the problem. Try turning it off.

We might be able to find out more if you check "Enable HTTP logging" in the DMRA, select the renderer again, and send me the respective log file.

Or in MC you could try playing with the "Ignore Transport Events" setting.

Hi,

find attached the latest logs.
Today it worked immediately.
The last time there was no way to bring it to work.
The time before, I started a mp3 in mc: error; next start: run; next start: error. I have no idea yet about the reason. It was not reproducable properly. I'll to figure out the reason by narrowing more and more. But to be honest: I have a lot of work and do not feel to invest that much effort for now. We will see.
But anyway: It would be pretty cool, if you can see anything in the logs which tells us something...  :)

Many thanks so far!

Thanks for sending the logs.

The Samsung is responding properly to AVTransport commands (such as SetAVTUri and Play etc.). This indicates that the track playing commands a Play, Stop, Seek etc. should be working fine.

Also it is sending state change NOTIFY messages properly. This indicates that it is giving the proper state feedback to MC for it to control the transport correctly.

By contrast the Samsung is responding with HTTP 500 Server error to all RenderingControl command (such as GetMute, SetMute, GetVolume, SetVolume). This indicates that such commands are not working. This is certainly a bug in the Samsung, and you should notify them about it. Such as by sending them the HTTP log..

And, by the way the report shows that it does (claim to) support SetNext.

So the correct renderer DLNA settings in MC are as follows..

1) Enable SetNext support
2) Disable Ignore Transport events

Hi,

Many thanks!  :D
I'll check and see, if the behavior in mc is better with that settings.

Kind regards

Hi,

Eventually I found the settings...
For all others, who are searching them: rightclick on the renderer; click onto "DLNA controller options".

Your response confuses me a bit.
1) Enable SetNext support => The setting is named "Disable SetNext support". So shall I now "check" (activate the disabling) the setting to disable it? Don't think so, but it was already unchecked...

2) Disable Ignore Transport events => The setting was already "unchecked". Shell it remain?

See the attached screenshot. Is it correct this way? (these were and still are the used settings)
I actually thought, that you've seen in your logs, that the settings were different...

Many thanks

I would suggest to try all four combinations of chech and unchecked against those two menu items..
