JRiver Android is on Google TV. Music, Video is on NAS. My normal use is with Notebook and JRiver Mac. How can I use JRiver Android without with the help of the JRiver on MAC. I want to have JRiver Android import music from NAS directly. I do not see an option in the menu for that?

JRiver for Android cannot import from network storage at the moment, but this is a planned improvement.

Happy to report that for the first time since over a year I can use the program again to play my music files stored at a microSD-Card in my Android 8 Head Unit (Joying). A new install of 30.0.47 imported my files  from the card and played them without problems. The new interface is looking good - thank you for the important improvement ! My Unit has a coaxial-output and my car-amplifyer an input too so I can use a digital connection to play stereo-files. Using my laptop when I was staying at a campsite I was using HDFury to strip the multichannel audio (JRiver is putting out all the music in Dolby 5.1 multichannel) from HDMI to SPDIF (fiber) to the Dolby-enabled AMP. No luck with multichannel from my android device - probably a limitation of android. But driving and listening to 4 stereo-speakers and a subwoofer is ok....

No.  We did a little work a few months ago.  It's all a matter of priorities.

It will continue to evolve.

(1) Is it possible to define sorted views in JRiver for Android based on custom tags found in the files it reads from the phone's microSD card?

For example, I want a view which sorts albums according to a custom date stamp in the audio tags.  The date is available in two tags, one as a literal text string (month/day/year) and the other as a MC date code.  This is easily done in JRiver MC, but what about for local files read by JR4A?

(2) Can JR4A display the lyrics tag text found in files read from the phone's microSD card?

I wish it were possible to have a free limited evaluation copy in order to try these and current features before purchasing.

This is something I'd like to do. I have a UPNP NAS on my network and JRiver for Android on my Sony Android TV. Has this improvement happened yet?

Don't use UPnP.  Import from the drive.

Don't use UPnP.  Import from the drive.
I can't see how to do that. Here's what I tried. Pics attached.
1 JRiver Import - OK
2 Internal Storage (no other option) right arrow >
3 Choose Music right arrow >
4 blank screen
Whereas in VLC
5 Eddie Synology UPNP detected
6 Music Albums found and displayed.

Ho do I import from the Synology NAS? Back in 2021 BradATIMA said this was not possible but planned.

I missed the fact that you're running JRiver for Android.

From there, you can load a library created on a computer running JRiver.  It must have created a library by importing from the NAS.

Ah, OK. Thanks for your clarification. I've been trying to find a solution that will allow me play music from my NAS without having to fire up my PC. So it looks like JRiver is not that solution. (That's why I tried VLC but the Android version - unlike the PC version - sorts the tracks by alpha and not track number. So that's not a solution either.)

This was asked recently by someone but never answered. Is there JRVR support on Android? I would like to use this on an Android OS rather than using a HTPC for movie watching?

If it is supported, what kind of limitations are there compared to the windows build?

Thanks!

The last I checked (someone, e.g. Hendrik, can correct me if I'm wrong) but JRVR is only available on Windows, Mac and Linux unfortunately.

Hi all! Sorry I have been away for a while!

1) How is the current version of JRiver for Android? I had spent much time trying to get it to work years ago, but gave up. It seemed to have very little support then. I can't seem to download right now so I am wondering how others are liking it.

2) Also, I see that there is a JRemote 3. I bought all the JRiver apps including JRemote 2 in the past. I can't seem to find much discussion on v.3. I see that I would have to re-purchase it.

A) I did see that it handles playlists. Does it handle Smart Lists?

B) Is it a good user experience?

C) Will it work on a tablet?

D) Is there a good Apple compatible way to remote control JRiver now for others in the household?

Thanks!

So I guess that the silence on the official support thread is what I needed to hear.

I tried to give this another shot, but it's still hardly functional. On my Shield:

1) i open the app. 40 seconds later (after waiting on a grey screen with no feedback), it closes. I reopen it, it appears ok
2) I go to the about screen to see what version I'm running. It crashes. I do this again. It crashes again.
3) I open it again, 40 seconds later, it opens.
4) the poster icons for video are very large and scaled versions of low res images. It looks bad.
5) I select a show, 5 second delay until it shows me the episodes.
6) I start a show and I cannot pick the audio track
7) I cannot select the subtitle track

I'm still not sure how this has been around since 2018 and gotten no attention.

In settings for the app, empty the cache.  Update JRiver for Android.

Just did this. Can't get past this screen now. There should be an on screen keyboard.

EDIT: Resizing the image that I uploaded from my phone.

Thanks for trying.  I'd really like to get to the bottom of this.

Try clearing the library in the settings on the Shield.  You'll need to add the remote library again.  I assume you're trying to connect to MC on another device.

What version is the Shield?  Is it up to date?

I had gone to the Shield settings, selected the JRiver app, cleared data and cleared cache - so I think that's the library was cleared out by doing that.

I just updated the Shield to 9.2 over the weekend. I believe it's the 2019 Shield Pro hardware.

Yes, I am trying to connect to a remote library at this point, and this popup is asking me for the credentials for that server. But my phone (Pixel 9), does not "see" my Shield on the network using the Android TV app (I assume this is what is meant in the JRiver popup to "use the keyboard on your mobile device"). With other apps, a keyboard on screen shows up that I can then move around with my remote.

Weird.  It works on my 2015 Shield.  I assume you have tried clicking ok on the remote in the text field to try to bring up the keyboard?  Also, do you have the Android TV control app running on your phone?

Ah! No, I had not clicked OK first. The cursor shows as active (blinking) when you're in that field, so it didn't dawn on me that I had to click OK to bring up the keyboard.

I do have Android TV on my phone, which is what I thought the subtext was telling me to use. But for some reason it no longer finds my Sheild.

I've connected to my server again, but the notes that I presented here still apply:

1) i open the app. 40 seconds later (after waiting on a grey screen with no feedback), it closes. I reopen it, it appears ok
2) I go to the about screen to see what version I'm running. It crashes. I do this again. It crashes again.
3) I open it again, 40 seconds later, it opens.
4) the poster icons for video are very large and scaled versions of low res images. It looks bad. ADDED: I only see 5 posters across and 1 and 2 1/2s vertically. I feel like this needs to be zoomed out by a factor. Or give me the preference to set it based on screen resolution.
5) I select a show, 5 second delay until it shows me the episodes.
6) I start a show and I cannot pick the audio track
7) I cannot select the subtitle track  ADDED: I think I should be able to select not just on/ off, but font size, color, timing, etc. These are things that VLC lets you control and I think that's very nice.

Added UI/UX things:
- The Play/Pause button on my remote (Harmony) doesn't do anything.
- The OK button brings up the controls, but then I have to click OK again to act on the Play/Pause button.
