I noticed that when doing searches, hitting the back button loses the previous search criteria.  Example :
1. open JRemote menu
2. press Audio
3. press Artists. It shows 1546 artists
4. press the magnifying glass to search
5. type the name of an artist in your library, in my case I used Chorzempa
6. in my case, I found 7 artist matches for Daniel Chorzempa - slightly different variations or with different punctuation
7. I opened one folder to look at the albums
8. I press the back button
9. Now I see all the artists again like in step 3 . I had expected to see the same results as in step 6.

Not sure how hard this is to implement, but it would be great especially on a mobile device not to have to type searches like this repeatedly.

Of course, I will fix my library using MC to consolidate the artists name into one for this case, but the same goes for, say, an album search when hitting the back button.

For the next time there is an update I would like to suggest a couple of small fixes/tweaks that would please me greatly.
I use JRemote, a lot, to select Movies or Shows to watch, after I've navigated my Video library I put my mobile down on the sofa next to me which can inadvertently switch it from portrait to landscape, this currently has the side effect of placing you in the Audio section away from the location I just navigated to. It seems appropriate to me that switching between portrait and landscape displays should maintain the current interface location.
The other is if you have Chromecast enabled, when in a Video page the Search icon disappears from the top on the screen hidden in the 3dots with Playmode. Or at least it does on my mobile. As I use search a lot to locate films I would love it if it remained visible at the top of the screen.
Thanks

A new version of JRemote2 has been submitted to Google for review and should be available on the Play Store soon. For enrolled beta testers first, and the general public shortly after.
Depending on how long it'll take to be reviewed, it should be available soon.

The biggest change to the app itself is bringing it up to date to the latest Android version. Feature wise, we have added a global Search in the Nav Drawer, as well as a "DayNight" skin that automatically selects the Dark or Light skin (select "Follow System" in the Theme setting).

JRemote2 2.4.0 (10/11/2023)
Thank you so much for adding this global search feature!!!
Now JRemote is even more amazing.
However, the search function is showing far more results than expected, e.g. searching for Alane (from Wes) it shows all songs containing alone or similar words. Is this some kind of phonetic search? If so, can you make this phonetic feature optional (perhaps in the settings)?

Kind regards,
Ruediger

Do you know which option should I set in JRiver to enable possibility of modifying rating in media files? Currently is working only in read mode (value of rating isn't saved after changing in JRemote2)

You need to enable and use authentication in the MC server's Settings > Media Network and not use read-only authentication in JRemote2. Then use the authentication username+password in JRemote2 when adding or editing a server.

Yes, I've tried it. But no success.

Any chance it is on the roadmap to have JRemote2 send the now playing info to car audio over Bluetooth? Neither this app nor Gizmo does. MO4Media does but it has a few stability issues when used outside the home.

I guess I should take this as a no.

I think you're asking about Android Auto support.  JRiver for Android has it.

So this is a simple question.

For a laptop that's not on a network, what remote can I use to control JR MC32?

And an unrelated followup if I may.... same Mc32 recently installed and I notice that Play Doctor is not available. How to enable in this feature?

TIA

Play Doctor requires a track selection.
I select a track -then Right click and highlight More Play Options - then highlight fourth option down.

Remote control of Laptop requires connectivity (Wi Fi LAN).
Perhaps, Bluetooth paring, but not aware it exists currently?

Media Network and things like DLNA and UPnP in general only works over a network with ethernet and Wi-Fi, it's not going to be possible to do it via Bluetooth. You can create a local network (LAN) with Wi-Fi without internet access and it'll function that way with MC and Media Network.

When I right Click a genre or a track and select "More Options" i only get a shaded "no zones". But I am using MC32 in a new environment with a HDD attached to a laptop and no wifi.

I discovered that playdoctor can now be used when creatinga Playchart for Car Radio so this has the same features I am looking for and can be used more brilliantly for me.

When I am using JRemote and my display blacks out, I must unlock my phone before I can adjust the volume.

When I am using the RadioParadise app and I press my Volume Up or Volume Down, it responds without unlocking the phone.

Is there some way to make JRemote act like the RadioParadise app and adjust the volume without unlocking?
I did not see a setting that might apply.

It's been awhile since I've posted anything related to JRemote2 but the time has come to so. Hopefully these are considered if/when development is resumed.

Issues:

1) JRemote2 no longer gives any current playback data to my smartwatch. Right now I've got an Amazfit GTR 4 smartwatch and previously JRemote2 worked fine for it and I could display what was currently playing, the volume control, etc. however since the last JRemote2 update this is now totally broken. Oddly the Play, Previous (which I can tap twice to go to the previous track) and Next buttons still work. It just doesn't display any track, artist or album data nor gives volume control. Maybe this is related to the changes needed to get the Android 13+ notification stuff working? I can say MO 4Media and BubbleUPnP apps work fine for this (and work fine with Android 13+ notifications) when using MC so it's definitely a JRemote2 issue. I suspect this may happen with Wear OS devices too, and I have been considering getting a OnePlus Watch 2 to go with my OnePlus 12 phone so I may be able to test that in the future.

2) JRemote2 no longer works with the Pano Scrobber app, which is used to detect what's currently playing and submit that data to last.fm (or other scrobbing websites). I have it set to detect JRemote2, MO 4Media and BubbleUPnP and out of those three the only one it doesn't work for is JRemote2. In fact JRemote2 isn't detected as a music app in Pano Scrobber (yet MO 4Media is). Attempt playback in MO 4Media or BubbleUPnP and Pano Scrobber shows a notification that it's detected what's playing and is going to submit it. Do the same in JRemote2 and nothing happens. If you open Pano Scrobber it detects nothing is playing (whereas when playing in the other two apps, it detects it).

If I was a betting man, I'd wager these two issues are actually related (and potentially have the same underlying cause). I suspect if JRemote2 is to work with Pano Scrobber again the playback data on my smartwatch may start working again too.

Suggestions:

1) Add a toggle option in JRemote2's settings to hide the rating stars from Now Playing.

This is self-explanatory. I don't use ratings at all so it's wasted space.

2) Add Year/Date of an album to the UI in several places.

This was brought up here by aklegal, and I have to agree. This was part of the original JRemote app and is missing in JRemote2. In addition to that request I also would request to have it added to the Now Playing window somewhere, because year/date info would be beneficial. Maybe below the progress bar after the track number of total tracks part (and equal distance between current time on the far left and time remaining on the far right so it all appears nice)?

3) Add a toggle option in JRemote2's settings to automatically display Playing Now when starting playback.

I seem to recall maybe this was discussed before (and unsurprisingly I forgot the details), but it would really come in handy since I always go to Now Playing when starting playback. But if not really doable no biggie.

Please bring JRemote2 Android - up to standards of JRemote for IOS? All aspects.

Is it not already, more-or-less? I can't really think of anything major that JRemote2 on Android doesn't support that JRemote for iOS does specifically. Do keep in mind both are different platforms so there will be differences so pure feature parity may not be fully possible with each other.

For example as far as I know JRemote2 supports things like gapless playback (e.g. for FLAC files) and last I checked (granted this was years ago) JRemote for iOS still doesn't support gapless playback. Correct me if I'm wrong though. I don't use iOS so I can't just check that.

Awesome D:

Tapping on [info] icon only brings up metadata in JRemote2 vs. Metadata, Artist Bio and Assets in JRemote (iOS)?

Player list in JRemote (iOS) "centers" on selected track (last, playing) upon exit and reentry. Very nice when list is long.

Playing Now in JRemote2 does not always "center" on track playing and user starts at top of list vs. auto scroll down to current track.
This happens when user leaves Playing Now to search and returns back to Playing Now or exiting the app and reentering?
Lots of scrolling on the handset when Playing Now list has hundreds of tracks.

Most Grateful - UncleMilt

First one sounds like something that could be requested if assets are not accessible (I don't use assets so I can't test that).

The rest are likely going to be part of the platform differences I mentioned as JRemote2 for Android and JRemote for iOS are completely different apps that use completely different codebases. So there's going to be differences and they'll never be 1:1 with each other.

Hi All, I have a problem with JRemote2 - it makes my mc server crash when I scroll through a long list, like artists in genre rock or whatever. I can use Gizmo or BubbleUPNP with no problem but I definitely like JRemote2 best for the features it provides. Any help?

JRemote2 on GalaxyS24 connecting to MC running on a NUC6CAYH and Ubuntu 24.04, all updated to latest versions.
