Backup/Restore Problem on New Computer [Solved]
« on: April 18, 2025, 04:26:09 am »

I have a lot of playlists with "virtual music cassettes" that contain always 20 tracks.

I have moved the library to a new computer with "File > Library > Back Up Library" on the old and "File > Library > Restore Library" on the new PC.

On the new computer with the restored library, most playlists now contain 19 tracks only. Mostly the last track is missing, sometimes a random track.

The operating system is Windows 10 on the old one and Windows 11 on the new computer.

If some files/folders are not accessible from the new computer, MC will remove the corresponding files from the Library and thus from the playlists.
You can try this on the new PC:
- go to AutoImport settings and set the "Fix Broken Links" option to "No"
- restore your backup from Win10 making sure the 'Restore settings' checkbox is unchecked

If the playlists are now OK, it likely means some files are not accessible on the new computer. You can find out which files are unplayable or missing, maybe pointing to some folder on the old machine's C: drive.

Changing "Fix Broken Links" to "No" did actually help!

But the tracks that were missing before in the playlists were in the library and accessible. All my music is on a network share that is accessible on both machines.

Maybe the "Fix Broken Links" feature is too eager in detecting inaccessible files...

Anyway, the playlists seem to be ok now. Thank you very much for the quick help!

If you're trying to share files, consider using Library Server.  https://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Media_Server

Tracks missing in playlists

After the automatic update to 33.0.72 "Fix Broken Links" was again set to "Yes".

Now I have again playlists with missing tracks. But this time no Backup/Restore was performed.
Is JRiver manipulating playlists in the background?
How can I permanently get rid of this behaviour that JRiver is deleting tracks from my playlists?
