Media Center 10.0.74 beta available
« on: February 19, 2004, 04:48:15 pm »

This is a beta.  Avoid this if problems, changes, or crashes will upset you.  Do NOT try this if you aren't prepared for trouble.

Please reserve this thread for obvious bugs.  If you're not sure, or you need to ask a question, please start a new thread.

Please keep a list of issues you find and report them with each build until we have addressed them.

The latest known stable version of 9.1 is here:
http://www.musicex.com/mediacenter/download.html

Please check the license and price thread before you download:
http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?board=3;action=display;threadid=17336

The latest beta of 10 is here:
ftp://ftp.jriver.com/pub/downloads/music/MediaCenter10074.exe

IMPORTANT -- This build includes a re-worked handheld system.  Only IPOD, WMDM, and Nomad Jukebox players currently work (for Nomads, please install the new plug-in -- 9.0.33).  Tread lightly if handheld support is important to you.

10.0.74 (2/19/04)

1. Fixed: MC could prompt to rebuild the database on a removable drive handheld multiple times if it was empty.
2. Fixed: Certain advanced searches could cause an "Invalid argument" error message.
3. Fixed: Offline synchronized files could crash MC.
4. Fixed: Download Manager displays "Finished" status (instead of "Cancelled") when a resumed download is cancelled again.
5. Fixed: MC was unable to play preview files from Wal-Mart's web site.
6. Fixed: MC was not visible in task bar if invoked through automation interface.
7. Fixed: Several actions could cause the playing now scroll position to be lost. (Mini View and Standard View)
8. Changed: After a reshuffle in Playing Now, MC will show the currently playing file.
9. Fixed: Synching a handheld player without first starting the handheld Action Window could crash MC.
10. Changed: Updated the look of Action Window. (smaller icons, different background color, removed header images, etc.)
11. Fixed: Mouse back button behavior wasn't consistent in the Action Window.
12. Changed:  Removed iPod "Show files at root" option.

10.0.73 (2/18/04)

1. Changed: Album Analyzer no longer case sensitive when looking at artist names.
2. NEW: MC includes updated and improved Z skin.
3. NEW: Removable drive handhelds have a database -- synch and analyze are now much faster.
4. Changed: In Download Manager, Pause All button toggles between "Pause All" and "Unpause All".
5. Fixed: A link in the skin manager window was loading old skin page.
6. Changed: Currently playing file item, in content view, now uses bold font.
7. Fixed: "Update Tags (from library)" would erroneously ask for confirmation to keep changes when complete.
8. Fixed: Pg Up and Pg Down weren't selecting the next / previous track while editing in the AW.
9. Fixed: iPod last played could be off by an hour for DST.
10. Fixed: When tagging in the AW, clicking a new file could cause it to get updated along with the current file.

10.0.72 (2/17/04)

1. NEW: MC included updated Remote Server (Options > Startup) -- several bug fixes and better support of new view scheme system. (thanks Ben)
2. Fixed: ASIO playback did not work with ASIO drivers that didn't operate in their own thread.
3. Changed: In-place editing disabled for handheld players -- organize in MC before transferring.
4. Changed: Tuned album analyzer so that instead of having to be a complete album to be a mix, files will just have to be the only album in the directory.
5. Changed: If an empty password is used for Access Control, MC won't prompt for a password anymore.
6. Fixed: Access Control was not allowing custom searches.
7. NEW: Added tree selection skin item. (see Blue Steel for an example)
8. Changed: Scrollbar not always visible in Action Window home. (only when necessary)
9. Changed: Action Window home doesn't show gridlines.
10. Changed: Action Window header text more prominent.
11. Fixed: Ability to transfer m4b files to iPod.
12. Fixed: Available and used space in portable synching dialogue.
13. Fixed: Audible (AA) files wouldn't always play on iPod.

3. Fixed: Offline synchronized files could crash MC.

Confirmed and a BIG Thank You!  Not only did you fix the crash, but I can actually save tag changes to the files now!!!!  Woo Hoo!

Would you mind divulging what the problem/solution was?  There are a few other programs I use (not competitors :) that have the same problem and I'd love to be able to point the authors in the right direction...

If the action window is showing the image for the current track, and track info in playing now is showing cover art, skipping track causes it to get it all wrong and either shows no cover art or the wrong cover art.
Easily reproducible

1. "Auto Rip" is not working here. The progress bar remains full with the final rip speed to it's left. Underneath that it says "Complete. Insert another cd or click close". Underneath that, I have "show list" on the left and a close button on the right. After inserting the new disc, the file list refreshes, and all the new .cda tracks are ticked, in greyed out check boxes, I tried clicking one of these check boxes, and got the dialogue you see below. I moved it next to the rip dialogue for the screenie.
I have no option other than to click close and start the rip process from scratch.

2. [date] field not being saved to file. (option is set in tree & view settings)

3. Image > quick find in file/coverart directory does not pick up correctly named [artist] - [album].bmp files. (works with .jpg's)

4. 'Right click > locate > external, opens the containing folder in explorer, but the target file is not selected.

5. 'Right click > locate > on disc - internal' is still quite buggy. If the action window is showing a large screen like tag or filetype info, then a lot of wierdness ensues while MC drills through My Computer, and when its done, the AW obscures the selected tree node.
All appears to work a bit more smoothly when the action window is at its default size, "home" or "image" for example. Click back, choose another file, "locate" is now top of the menu, hit that, MC begins to refresh the left panel, then crashes. The numner of times locate is used before MC crashes varies, but the crash will happen. So far, I've not done 4 without a crash.

6. Right-click > send to > play > replace (shuffled) is not shuffling the tracks.

7. 3d picture cube is not updating coverart when track changes.

==============
==============

Wishlist Please consider these...

1. rename files from properties: Can we have an MRU button (for recently used locations) next to the browse button for "base directory"

2. remember action window state across sessions

3. remember right-click MRU across sessions

4. Auto-complete: Would be neat if this could also "auto-dropdown" and filter the list. (I always forget to drop-down first and think auto-complete is broke)

5. Long time wish :) (3d picture cube)

6. remember media mode state across sessions.

Thank you :)

Thanks guys - it's working well.

MC does not colour video icons differently depending on whether they are on the PC or removable drive, like it does for audio files [the blue and orange mini music sign icons].

MC still does not recognize/display "Multiple Artists" albums correctly! This behaviour leads to alot of other strange issues (smartlists with "full albums" modifier or "Album/Artist (Auto)" modifier are not working as expected).

I am also seeing this problem. Currently, I have worked around this problem by forcing "Varous Artists" as Album Artist. But, I wish this would work as it did in .70 version.

thanks,

R/clicking on toolbar icons at the top of MC10, then selecting "customise toolbar" doesn't produce anything at all.

I'm pleased to say that the latest 3 releases have overcome the installation problems that I'd been encountering since release 10.0.60.

It's a bit of a puzzler though 'cos I have'nt tried any of the suggestions that were put up nor have I made any changes on the pc, apart from...I noticed that the jpg file type was not checked in the file associations and I have plenty of these in the library. I checked it and the instal worked but I'm not sure if it was because of this.....

Thankyou to the people who replied to my earlier posting

Jim

If you really want to avail yourselves of this functionality then I recommend that you start by making sure your files are stored in a sensible folder structure.  MC will do this for you via Library Tools>Rename files from properties.  I recommend the structure that works for 90% of users which is 'a directoryof your choice'\Artist\Album with Use Assorted for multi-artist albums checked.  Start a new thread to discuss further.

Hello,
MC will crash while importing MP4 files.
Get a C++ Runtime Error in most cases otherwise MC just shut down.

Any chances for old time AW request ?

Can anyone else reproduce this?  It's working for me.

Try right-click on the statusbar and doing the same.  Also Options > Tree & View > Toolbars.  Do these work?

Options > Tree & View > Toolbars and r/click on "help" or "file" (is this the status bar?) bring up the "customise toolbar" dialogue box.

R/clicking on the icons for "all media" , "audio" etc underneath the "search" and then selecting the "customise toolbar" option bar produce nothing for me at all.

Also confused by a post to the thread for build 73 who said he had the "handheld player" on his toolbar - even when I get the "customise toolbar" dialogue box that doesn't seem to be an option.

Did you use InterNet Explorer to download the build? And did you use any download managers?

yes, ie but no download managers. But the install went fine. It's after the installed is complete that the problem occurs.

Cascius,

Try a redownload and reinstall.  Something is altering essential MC files.  A virus, hardware error or crack can cause this.
