OT: Sunrise at 10,000 feet
« on: February 24, 2004, 02:03:42 am »

I went up Maui's volcano, Haleakela (House of the Sun), Monday morning to watch the sunrise.

Truly amazing!

It is indeed gorgeous...do you have a high res version (at least 1280x1024)?

I was wondering the same thing, i was willing to live with this one however

this is now #1 in the top 10 I have seen for desktop.

I have been thinking about making a new web site for Desktop backgrounds

Yeah, I have a widescreen Toshiba laptop, and would love a hi-res copy also.

I would rather be there to take my own shot, but yours will certainly to do...for now.

I am in the planning stages of my own round-the-world trip.  I'm planning on spending however long it takes to see this big blue marble we live on, and as many of the people on it as I can.  I'm figuring it'll take at least 5 years, but more or less is always a possibility.

The big question is obviously, which handheld player to take? ;)

I have 6+ megapixel version of it but I'm on the road with a laptop and would prefer to do my clean-up work at home before posting it.  I'll be home on Friday.  OK?  :)

Nature is amazing, usually more amazing than anything man-made.

I came back to my hotel after seeing the sunrise and reviewed the 100+ pictures I'd taken.  I thought I had nothing worthwhile as I've got sun reflections on most of the photos but this one turned out to be just amazing.  I think when I get home and either cleanup or accept those reflections there might be even better ones.  Its tough to do much on a laptop monitor. :)

Your back yard looks quite like mine did about a week ago.  We finally got some warm weather, and most of our snow has melted.  My car looks like it's been in a mud fight, but most of the snow is gone.  I am ready for spring.

I used to keep track of the day the "cat dared to go out" on my calendar.  My cat went out this week.  Well, he's really my daughter's cat and I'm responsible for him for a couple months.  At least, I hope she'll take him back when she gets home.

King

You got the snow too.

Its been really warm out the past wk. or so.

Cut some limbs off the old oak trees.

Yesterday, raked up up a lot of small limbs, got the tractor out and sucked the remaining.

Spread some grass seed in areas that were light.

Came in the house and heard about the snow.

Well, what a treat.

HA HA,

Well at least it will make the seed have contact with the ground.

Hope your tomato patch is OK.

As promised here's a link to a larger version (3032x1964).  At 300k I don't think I've compressed this too much, let me know if I have.  :)

Phenomenal. Thanks!

BTW, using the "center" option (rather than "stretch") at 1280 x 1024 puts the focus beautifully on the suns rays..... breathtaking  :D

Does AOL do something funky with uploads? When I use FireFox>Save Image As... it puts a htm extension on the end and won't let me save as a naked jpg (workaround: save to clipboard). Doesn't do this with any other image at any other site...so it's not FireFox. Once again, gorgeous shot.

Works fine for me using Firefox 0.8 pointed at http://members.aol.com/tim/img_850.jpg using either "Save Image as..." or "Set as Wallpaper.
