First impression is that the 'add pane to left/to right', should instantly shoot out a menu for the column you want it to be rather than then having to choose the column type after it is created..  That would be easy.

Now that there is a menu, why not add sorting options for each pane?

Theater View Hot Key Navigation Bug:

The ALT+[1|2|3|4|etc] keys for jumping in and out of Playing Now and the various other views don't work for Theater View.

The Alt+[Left Arrow|Right Arrow] is working fine however.

Thanks.

Theater View Cosmetic Bugs:

1. When bringing up a context menu on a list in Theater View, the menu apears chopped off (in terms of it's horizonal length) and looks pretty strange expecially with some skins. In MC11, it used to extend all the way to the far right of the screen which looked good.

2. When Theater View fonts are set to anything but LARGE, the lettering under thumbnails looks jaggered (that old chestnut). Everywhere else it is fine.

3. When loading a web page via a custom root menu item, the left hand nav menu has the buttons "Play All" and "Display View" which don't make sense.

Thanks.

When I start playback in Theater View and have the option to Jump On Play set to  Display View the display jumps to standard view not display view.

So I get my video or track info display in the bottom left corner instead of full screen

This also brings me back to an old request... any chance of having the same options for jump on play as Standard View has, so that audio can display playing now and video can go full screen?

I defined a folder on my USB-connected, external hard drive (d:\folder1\folder2) as a handheld device.  I selected the Recently Imported playlist to sync and set "[Artist] - [Album] ([Date (year)])\" as the Audio directory (for the defined handheld).

On sync, MC12 always says every file needs to be synced (even after syncing) and the Detail view never shows any files when selected.

This exact same setup (configuration) works fine in MC11.

----

When using the Configure Library Fields screen under Options->Library & Folders->Standard Library Fields, click & Edit Field (popup), you cannot see/scroll the read-only text under the Data group for Template.  So, lots of fields get truncated and you can't see what they do or are set to.  Frustrating when you want to make a user field like a standard field, but you can't see and/or select and copy the values.

On my home pc, I get a "error starting Direct3d device" black screen when i try to go to theatre view. Is that a limitation of my computer/graphics card, or a problem with theatre view?

Minor "glitch" in switching between standard and mini view.

Steps to reproduse:
1. Ctrl-2 to get to mini view.
2. Click another window, so mini-view gets see-thru.
3. Click on a menu in mini-view (file, View or Player).
4. Click on another window.
5. Alt-tab back to mini-view (Mini-view now stays see-thru) *
6. Click Ctrl-1, and even standard view stays see-thru, untill minimized.

* - Guess here is where the initial flaw is. Some missing check of focus...

I've never been able to follow all those indents, new lines, commas etc. I get very lost, very quickly, when trying to read them!!!
(that's not a vote against, just a statement about me and my tunnel vision!!)
Like the new expression editor.
Requests for it to be resizable, and for us to be able to save expressions in there as well as load some stock offerings.
Now that really would be something special!

I am getting very slow performance importing files from a network attached storage device, in this case an Infrant ReadyNAS NV+.

I have clocked this device already, and it does serve at 15MByte/sec, I have also used previous builds of MC11 with a Buffalo Terastation and gotten good speeds.

burning\reading\working with data DVDs
Further tests using build 106 Discussed here
--------
data burning - set volume name
The volume name field allows more than the maximum allowed characters to be typed in. At burn time, the excess is discarded.
--------
slideshow playback from library browser
from [album] tiles, during audio playback, select an album tile and then click on the "play" link. The slideshow always begins with the last file in the list.
--------
Display View:
When using two split views, launch display view (by double clicking an image?). When returning to standard view, focus has switched to the other view in the split. (Discuss?)
--------
'Tag' Action Window
(Panes view, Tagging mode: On) Select an image, open the [people] tag in the AW and tick a person. Keep the file selection and leave the AW as it is, and now tick a different tag in a pane. Notice the previously tagged people in the AW gets cleared.
--------
Camera (aquire)
.avi files are not being aquired from the camera. (Discuss?)
MC is not able to determine how many files it's aquiring, merely stating "image 1 of ??". Elements and, IIRC, windows, are both able to present this information.
--------
Wishes
  • Please can we have access to saved sorting presets from "customise current view" in the drop-down 'sort' menu in the view headers.
  • hopefully, these tag window tweaks are still on the list.
  • An "Apply" button for the 'Edit/Add View Scheme' dialogue. (Discuss?)
  • Expressions in the 'base path' field of the rename from props tool. (Discuss?)
  • .tif file tag reading at a minimum, writing would be nice too if possible (Discuss?)
  • the ability to set a library field to be used as a caption for images and/or thumbnails when using the 'send to > web/ftp > create html' tool
  • I would like to be able to use a date expression in the aquire images general "path" option, and for the scanner, I'd like to be able to setup some incremental file naming rule
  • when playing both audio and images, the dislay's context menu has "send to... (currently playing track)" would love to see "send to... (currently displayed image)" on there too.
  • Navigational favourites could use a little spit and polish. (Discuss?)

I am getting occasional random quits when using MC12.0.106.

Not often, mind you, perhaps once a day. What is going on is that MC12 is importing from a NAS device in the background, and I am navigating through the library.

Sometimes I get an error message (from MC12), along the lines of "has encountered an error", sometimes it is a silent quit.

A couple of things I've noticed recently:

The Image (large thumbnail) assumes that albums with the same name (eg. Greatest Hits/Best of) are the same album, so you only see one picture in that column for multiple albums

A bit complicated so hope I can type this in a way that it can be understood by someone:

If you have three panes in the standard Video View Scheme (say, as in my case, Video Type, Programme, Series) of which if a certain item in the first pane is selected causes the other two to only show one possiblity (if I only select 'Shorts' in Video Type, there is no Programme or Series so these are unassigned) and you then have another view scheme (I have a TV Series View Scheme and a Shorts View Scheme) that shows the item for which this is the case - Shorts - and this View Scheme is shown in Theater View, then when selecting Shorts (not the view scheme but within the standard view scheme) within Theater View, it automatically fills in Unassigned > Audio > Files, and I see all audio files...

So summary for what I have:

Standard Video View: Panes: Video Type (Shorts / TV Series), Programme (Unassigned for all Shorts), Series (Unassigned for all Shorts)
Second Video View Scheme: Shorts: Panes: Name.
This Video Scheme is also shown in Theater View.

In Theater View, click Video, Shorts (Not the View Scheme but the selection from Video Type)
Home > Video > Shorts > Unassigned > Audio > Lots of music...

This doesn't happen if the View Scheme doesn't have the same name as the Video Type (Shorts).

Side note: Something else I found out while typing this: alt-tabbing out of Theater View can really screw things up...The Start Bar disappears, and then if I alt-tab back in nothing works till I press Escape.

If Media Center starts up in Playing Now (with files in it), and I minimize it to the systray icon, then hit the play button on my keyboard it reports back with there is noting to play, even if a file was highlighted in the playing now list when it opens.  I can restore the app and it plays fine. Playing and stopping works fine from the systray once playback as begun in a regular screen. Also I tried this a few time to confirm this behavior, and the "there is nothing to play" dialog box came in full screen a couple times behind another app I was in. I had to Alt+Tab to get to it to click the o.k. button.

Also, as for new art, the check for update animated icon could maybe use an update? Very Windows 95ish  :) I like the solid install bar, and it's pretty trick that even the installer is colorized by the skin effects. Thanks again for everything looking great.

Yaobing

From the 12.0.105 thread:

Is this a TV tuner that comes with a Dell Computer, or a TV tuner made by Dell?

Is it for analog or digital TV?

In MC, try Tools -> Options -> Playback -> TV Tuner -> Reset TV Settings ...

Sorry for not being more specific.

It's a Dell USB Analog TV Tuner (made by Dell).

The above solution didn't fix the problem. It's no biggie, I can always use the Windows MC solution, but would like to be able to use it in MC if there's a fix!

auto-size columns
auto size columns with allow auto size to cut off long values active is too agressive.
This can be seen best in the track # field, where it's not allowing double figures to be displayed.
Also, I've got 1680 pixels of width to play with, but MC still cuts the columns to the bone leaving plenty of empty space to the right of the list pane. It would be nice if MC could make efficient use of all the available real estate.

I'm seeing massive screen draw problems when in tagging mode. Panes scramble overlap each other, becoming illegible. Can post a screen shot if necessary.

iPod showing up twice in the device list - playcounts not synchronizing back to MC.
Tried doing a 're-detect all devices' but the problem persists.

I have this same problem also with the latest build: my iPod is listed twice under Drives & Devices in the tree-list.
And after experimenting with it, i've found that it only affects (very strange) my basic account in winxp.
Under my admin account, the ipod's only listed once and all is well
If I change my basic account to admin rights then the problem also goes away.
It seems that it only affects my basic account with the 'basic account' restrictions

I'll post the System info here: (Under the basic basic account)

PS. Why does MC list the second instance of my iPod as Harry Potter?? Of all things  ?

I was able to finally get it cleared by doing the following:
Start MC with the device detached.
Run the re-detect.
Shut down MC and restart.
Hook up iPod.  It only shows one device again.  Will post up if it decides there are two again.
^ Didn't work for me

Just made the jump to version 12 with this build - Love it!  (The speed up is appreciated)

A few minor issues:

1) Tivo server crashes
(See http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=35489.0)

2) When importing my 45,000 file plus library, MC crashed.  I started it when I went to sleep, and when I came back in the morning, It had imported 30,000 some files then crashed.  I told it to import again, and it worked just fine.

3) I set up MC not to import any image types, cue sheets, playlists, etc.  It correctly imports audio only when I tell it to import in MC.  However, if I use the right click shell integrated option in Windows Explorer to tell it to import a folder, it will import all supported types, even the ones I have told it not to import.

4) It looks like you have improved to "Complete Album" logic for multi album sets - Thanks!  This was a huge problem of mine.... But I think there is one step to go:  If I have a 2 disk set that is by multiple artists, it does not seem to work.  In this case, a 2 cd soundtrack - If I had both set to the same album name with the disk number set, it still showed as incomplete.

Otherwise, I'm loving it!  Thanks!

You said it much better than I did. I reported this problem in the 12.0.78 thread:
Quote

If the Option, "Make Inactive Mini View Transparent" is enabled, then there is a problem if you open a menu and click away from the Mini View.  It will go transparent (as it should), but clicking again on the skin will not restore it to solid (as I would expect).  And if you switch to Standard View, that will be transparent too.

You can get it solid again by clicking on the desktop first, then on the skin, but that should not be necessary.

I'm surprised it hasn't been fixed yet.  Hopefully, it's on the list and will be taken care of soon.

This is by design. The import file types are only for the Auto-Import (background or manually started). Right-click importing should not be limited to the file type selection options, which are difficult to reach and besides that also tied to the specific folders.

If you are using Panes view scheme, but viewing Thumbnails rather than details, it doesn't allow you to rename items - this is particularly awkward for pictures or video.

Quite like this new expression editor, very nice. Now, bug? or just a "don't do that then"?

I knocked up an expression using six nested if() statements. Each statement starts a new line, the second last line is what to output if all else fails (Downloaded), and the last line contains the six closing brackets. The pane looks like so:

moving the closing brackets up onto the preceding line fixes the little squares.

[Date Imported] use in if(...) expressions may be bugged when used with user-defined library fields (not sure):

Please refer to this thread.

The stock view scheme Disk Location references a 'standard field' called Location (root), but this field does not exist anywhere.  The view scheme preset 'Disk Location' references this field too.

Is it some kind of hidden, internal MC field or is it just missing from the list of Standard Library Fields (as an oversight)?

View schemes support things other than fields.  Location and Playlist groups for example.

View schemes support things other than fields.  Location and Playlist groups for example.

Note: In the view scheme editing, you can select Playlist from the Type dropdown list (for Standard View Items), but you can't choose Location (root).  That's my report/comment (it's hidden and only the Disk Location preset can retrieve it).

For me, the tray Icon is out of function with MC 12.0.106. It shows no right click context menu and doesn't support minimize and restore any more.
