A way to browse files not in library in Theatre Mode?
« on: November 19, 2007, 02:38:39 pm »

Is there a way to browse through disks/folders etc. that are not yet in the library while in theatre mode? Sometimes, I store new rips on one network disk before storing them on another in an organised way. It'd be nice to be able to browse/play these files before they're imported into the library. Since I can do this in pane/column view (or whatever non-Theatre mode is called), I was hoping it would be possible in Theatre mode too.
Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Sorry, but only your imported files are visible from Theater View.

You might be able to use auto-import to keep your library and hard drive in step.  View schemes would allow you to keep a clean division between the new stuff and old stuff.

Thanks for the advice, Matt. I was previously having import problems, but they were fixed thanks to you. I was therefore reluctant to use auto-import, but I guess there's no reason to not investigate it now. Thanks.

Standard View, just to answer your question.  :)

There are four distinct "Views" to MC.  You probably already recognize them:

1. Standard View
2. Theater View
3. Mini View
4. Display View (full-screen)

I still prefer the old names for #1, #2, and #3:

1. MEGA-ME
2. Hairstyle
3. mini-me

Have patience... I know I don't usually for people who don't get terminology right. I was at work and didn't remember what it was called. I was thinking: I wish I knew what that standard view was called.  :)

I'll soon be the resident user-expert, or that guy who thinks he is. Just wait until I've paid for the full version!

Me too. Gave the app some personality. Along with the surfing jukebox.

Ha ha... You see.  I know it is stupid, but.... For the longest time I evaluated MJ over and over again because I wanted to buy it and like it, but I couldn't get past the "amateurish" names and artwork (the surfing jukebox).  Eventually the power of the program won me over (and it seemed like it was only a few months later that we got MC9 and the rebranding).

I think the new system, while less "personal", is also less "frat-boy-ish" and a lot more professional.  Sorry, Matt!

I certainly do have patience, in this case... I was just answering the question asked (hence the smilies).  No worries!

We could certainly use some more helpers!  Bring it on!   ;)  ;D

Oh, the slings and arrows ... and this from a guy who's a Close Personal Friend of Dirty Dick.

We're going back to Hairstyle, next build.

Had to get my crabs somewhere...  ;D

Like I said... Even with the names and jukebox, you did eventually win me over.  It was just obvious that your designer was... Well... your programmers.

Yeah, I keep meaning to explore using view schemes for this.... Having said that though, if you could just browse removable disks and handheld devices etc without needing to import first, that would be really make life easier. When friends come over with photos on their camera or whatever, I never want to import them. I just want to play 'em!

A dumbed-down version of Standard View's "Drives & Devices" view would be fantastic!

Thanks.

Agreed. I REALLY would like this. Personally, I know it has prevented several friends from using MC's Theater View. I think it is a rather large oversight, and one I dont quite understand, especially wrt removable drives.
