TEAC WAP AX250 (works with testBuild!)
« on: September 07, 2011, 08:24:22 am »

Hi,

I am trying to get the MC to work as an DMC for my Teac WAP AX250 (DMR).
(I already gave up, but the directions Vincent gave me motivated me to keep on trying some more)

At first I thought I had stability issues with the PC where MC is running but got convinced the solution has to be found in DNLA-network area.
There for I closed the topic I posted about this in the general MC 16 section.
http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=66218.0

If MC acts as an controller, JRCM and the render have troubles with going on to the next song.
As described before it gets stuck at the beginning or end of a song. It repeating 5 -15 seconds of silence. Clicking on next song (in MC) gets it running again. This happens sometimes, when transcoding is not set to never transcode this happens al the time. Restarting MC and this behavior is gone.
After playing some songs the UI doesn’t respond at all. This happens random sometimes just after the first song occasionally after 12 songs and everything in between.

I use the local Library and shutdown all other DLNA servers in the network. This just to be sure nothing is interfering.
Pushing seems to work best with only DNLA checked (not Extra-DNLA). Its odd that pulling only works well with Extra-DNLA.

What can I do to find a solution?

Can you install wireshark then when the loop up happens, start a capture (options->filter) use "host 1.2.3.4" where 1.2.3.4 is replaced by the ip address of your Teac. Capture for at least 10 seconds (enough to go through a control timeout) and email the results to bob (at) jriver (dot) com. Thanks.

Ok, I will try doing that (haven’t did something like this before but give it an try).
Although I must say it’s going better!, It  running for an hour just right now:

Always convert :uncompressed, DNLA and  Gapless playback.
The last because it seem to ply an album ok and “hung” after the last song of a the alblum.

I’ll come back to you, Thanx again!

Hi bob, I’ll hope you found the logs in your mail box.

In the mean time I made some progress:

Updated to 16.0.173

Configuration of de DLNA sever:
Convert:
-   never convert
Advanced:
-   UPnP…. I did not realize it’s plain UPnP without DNLA or Extra DNLA checked
-   Include session ID.

I enabled the UPnP services in the router (Netgear WRND 3700v2), it seems to make no difference.

Although sometimes it’s running for more than an hour. It’s still unstable, sometimes it just quits after a few songs.
I did some (overnight) tests with other DMC’s.  With my phone (Galaxy S, all share) and MC as server ,the WAP AX250 as render worked all night.
From Foobar with UPnP plug in to the render also worked. (This gave me the idea to find out how to configure MC as plain UPnP server)

What can I do to find a solution, I really, really, really would like this to work!

I don't think you need the session ID checked. I looked and there is a firmware update for it (in case you don't have the recent version).
It's 1.3.1.15.

I'm still looking through the dumps, they are tough to parse for intermittent problems.

Can you send me a dump from version 16.0.173?
There are some weird DLNA flags in the dump you sent me.

Are you using 2 instances of MC? (like a server and controller) or a single MC?

Hi, I'am going to do that (by “dump” you mean creating network log’s, right?)
(I already had updated the render, it is 1.3.1.15)

Is it possible windows (re)starts services due to an request of the render?

I’m asking because while trying to close MC after isn’t responding sometimes an message about the library opened read only flashes up. (the behavior of two MC’s running).
I’m quite sure I did not do so on purpose.  (Although I would be charmed running the DNLA server as an service and the mediacenter as an application)

I found a check box concerning this in de general advanced options, unchecked the possibility of running 2 instances.

-I’ll send you some log’s (it gonna take a while)

Great!

All of the DLNA code and services MC uses are internal. Media Sharing in Windows should be turned off.

I think you were still probably only running one copy.
Is the library on a local hard drive or a network share?
Are you running MC on just one PC or more than one? (like in a client/server configuration).

It’s a local library (I just removed the folder form the windows library share)
MC was installed on my laptop for testing, just uninstalled it.

Which DLNA-server configuration can you advice ,DNLA, DNLA extra, or plain UPnP?

Ok, sounds like you have a straightforward configuration...

I took a quick look at the source for the AX250 which they had on their site. I think the best place to start is to use the generic DLNA template.  (remove the existing server and re-add it using the generic dlna template). You said that it only works to pull from the AX250 with the DLNAExtra flag set. If that's still the case you should go ahead and set it.
If all of your material is mp3, then set audio conversion to "never convert".
Can you then verify with this more simple setup that setting that DLNAExtra flag prevents you from pushing material to the AX250?

Sorry for the delayed reply,

The thimg. with the server setting is, they all work more or less. It always starts playing but it is always an suprise for how long.
If conversion is not set to never it won't go to the next track, I see it playing about 5 sec silence over and over again.

Best results pushing so far are plain upnp or dlna and extra dlna.

The library is 90% flac the rest mp3, the render has no problem with these codec's.

Some extra observations:
At start up the render disappears a few times in playing now. After that period it usable. Starting up MC before the render is no joy, also powercycle the render while MC is running is no joy.
looking at network data -  no clue what I'm seeing - it saw that the render sometimes doesn't answers an SSPD m.search. Does that explain the disappearing in playing now?

Ot. The reason for the delayed reply is: I forgot listing to the music trying to get it working. And that takes the joy away..... Ot.

The disappearing in playing now is likely because the renderer is returning an error on something that MC is asking it to do. If you could get a capture of that sequence only it would probably be useful..

Hi Bob,

I've sent you some logs.

I searched the internet for some (more detailed) information about the dlna protocol, flags and mime.
Haven't found much.  Can anybody help?

Thanx

It does since the time-out logic for control and start/stop/play logic was different in 14...

Thanx I will,

Got troubles with my licence it won't work on the build you send me....
but I going to manage this.

I'm more than willing trying out older builds to find out what works best for me.
Read a threat about a render-issue not working properly after updating. I think it was from 15.0.158 to 163 but can't find it anymore. That gave me the idea checking older versions.

Ot. I hope a mc16 build is going to work, I've a 23" touchscreen mounted to the wall as a virtual cd cabinet and the showroom view is just brilliant! Together with gizmo on a tab you got best of 2 worlds. The feel and touch of oldfasioned browsing trough the cd collection and the benefits of digital streaming without the drama of reordering it after buying something new. Ot.

Here a test report,

Mc14 work ok
15.0.0.158 works just fine. On rare occasions the render disappears. Just start play again and it goes on. It does not stall the UI
15.0.0.171 no fun
15.0.0.174 no fun
16.0.0.126 no fun. Tested upnp, dlna and dlna + extra dlna

Looking at the change logs the render has troubles with the "eventing" added to get a renders capability. And this is what dlna is all about.
How to go from here? I like to test 15.0.0.164 because the gizmo functionality.
On the other hand, I like the development of mc and more than willing to keep your cats and dog well fed.
As far I can judge a very basic server configuration with eventing as less as possible would be nice (just put url in play, stop and volume control)

 A short test report.

15.0.0.164: same behavior as newer builds

15.0.0.163: works well, played music all night thru (more than 9 hours). This with DLNA configuration DLNA + Extra DLNA

15.0.0.163: works well, played music all night thru (more than 9 hours). This with DLNA configuration DLNA + Extra DLNA

The main difference between those two versions is how often we ask the play state near the end of the track. The last dump you sent looks like it sends us a indication that it stopped and then when we query it it says it's still playing. For some reason, I can't get your pcap files to view in my wireshark (I had to look at them in a text editor). Can you do another dump with the failing 15.0.164? If you could start the dump before actually starting MC then end it after the AX250 disappears from the zone list that would be great. I'll probably have a test version for you to try on Thursday as well... Thanks...

Wireshark has loads  of "save as" options, witch do you prefer?

It should just be the default wireshark/tcpdump.
I'm not sure why I can't read your files. They look ok but wireshark loads them with an error. I just upgraded to the latest wireshark and it still does it. Perhaps it's got something to do with the way I get them.

Just finished a test build. Will PM you with details...

Yes, MC logs please. Just go into logging, turn it on, reset the log and try playing until you get a failure then click the email log button under MC logging. Thanks...

Thanks!
We analyzed them and added some more logging to try and narrow the problem down. I'm PMing you with another build to try if you would. It should fail but it will give us more info.

One other question, when MC fails to advance tracks, while displaying the TEAC zone, if you hit the stop button then play again does it start playing? We are trying to figure if the TEAC is locking up by what we are sending it or if MC is confused.

Ok, I will test.

Second question:
Maybe I was not very clear. If I say the Ui stalled I should say it crashes (I don't  like that word). Mc does not respond anymore. I have to close it with the taskmanger.
The Dlna sever keeps on running thoug, with a ui that is not responding I can pull tracks. This behavior occurs went the Dlna sever is set to "never convert". If it is set to always or only unsupported it often repeats 5 to 10 seconds silence at the beginning or end of a track. Clicking next track and it goes on.
15.0.0.163 had another behavior, on rare occasions the paying zone disappeared. But the Ui did not stall. After de render appeared  again as playing zone it went on after clicking on play.
