JRiver's HDtracks Downloader for Windows -- Available Here
« on: October 05, 2012, 04:41:20 pm »

We've been working with the HDtracks folks on a new downloader, and it's far enough along that we could use some beta testers.  Here's the announcement we will soon make:

HDtracks, is the premier site for hi res music downloads. For a limited time, HDtracks is offering JRiver customers a special incentive to experience hi res music downloads and to beta test the new HDtracks Downloader, built especially for HDtracks by JRiver.

An updated HDtracks Downloader is available here:
http://files.jriver.com.s3.amazonaws.com/partners/hdtracks/HDtracksDownloader180159.exe [updated 2-13-13]

This downloader has all the functionality of the former HDtracks Download Manager and will soon replace it.  It also allows you to choose your favorite format (WAV, FLAC, etc.).

Has anyone been able to get the discount code to work?    I always get "Sorry. We could not find any valid promotion with this code."

Thanks,

I just used .55 to download 4 albums.  The very first file (.pdf) failed but all the rest worked fine.  Does .57 or will some future version allow you to re-try a failed download?  Upgrading to .57 now.

.57 should fix that problem.

Running the downloader again should get the file that it missed with .55.

I just tried downloading 3 recordings (all FLAC)

On the very first album, the PDF failed, as well as several of the FLAC files.

The remaining files/albums seemed fine.

The album in question is one with very long file names... could this be the issue?

My account in HD tracks continues to say:  Resume download

I've uninstalled the JRiver downloader and re-installed, same tracks fail each time.

Now I'm a bit confused...  ?

this path\file:
C:\Users\X79\Desktop\New Zealand Symphony Orchestra,Peter Breiner\Mussorgsky_ Pictures at an Exhibition - Songs & Dances of Death - The Nursery (Orchestrated by Peter Breiner)
downloaded fine to the pathname as shown above

but that same file would NOT download to the default:

C:\Users\X79\Music\HDtracks\New Zealand Symphony Orchestra,Peter Breiner\Mussorgsky_ Pictures at an Exhibition - Songs & Dances of Death - The Nursery (Orchestrated by Peter Breiner)

If I change the JRiver downloader download path to:  C:\HD\....     All tracks downloaded except the liner notes and one song.

I've run into this from time to time with HD Tracks, although typically the old HD Tracks downloader doesn't mind, it's when my storage is doing automatic backups that I'll get an error due to a path\filename that's a mile long.

Hope this helps!

Is it possible that you had previously attempted a download of that file to that location with the old Download Manager, and that it had failed then?

Thanks for the bug reports.

I'm going to copy what I have downloaded off to some place secure..and then delete all previous downloads in the default Music path and try this again to verify what seems to be happening is actually happening.  ::)

Interestingly enough, when I attempt to delete the HDTracks folder I get:  "The Folder contains items whose names are too long for the Recycle bin."

Actually, in some cases even where the JRiver downloader says "Finished"
the file does not appear.

According to the JRiver log only 1 file failed to download to C:\HD

However, there are 3 that are actually missing. very strange.  I'll shut up and try and figure out what's actually happening!

..still confused:

https://www.hdtracks.com/index.php?file=catalogdetail&valbum_code=HD747313301676

viewing this album, it appears there are several tracks with the same name:  Pictures at an Exhibition - Promenade

and I've switched the JRiver download over to only do 1 download at a time.

In the JRiver track listing, each of these multiple "Promenade's" show up, but, JRiver skips all but the first one.
with only one download at a time selected, the "Failed" messages are now gone except on the first file "Liner Notes-HD747313301676" which is a PDF

I did go ahead and finish the total download using the HDTracks downloader.

The top half of the file display below are file names based on the HDTracks downloader, and as is immediately apparent, numbers are added to the filename when using HDTracks.
There are 27 music files in total.

The bottom part of the graphic is the resultant download if using the JRiver downloader.

It appears the HDTracks downloader truncates and adds numbering to the file names, where JRiver does not.

Here's a side door copy of the Mac version of the HDtracks downloader.

http://files.jriver.com/partners/hdtracks/HDtracksDownloader.dmg

It's still rough, but we could use some reports on what happens when you install and run it.

The coupon should work if you want to purchase anything.  Use discount code jriver15 to receive 15% off your entire purchase. One time use only. Expires 10/28/2012

Just noticed that the Publisher for this app is "JRiver, Inc." when you look at installed applications. This might have been changed in later versions, but I thought that I'd mention it anyway.

Worked fine for me. Downloading multiple files simultaneously is great.
I'm not sure whether this is up to HDTracks or to JRiver Downloader, there in no track number in the file name. This is important to me when I play the files on players that sort the music by the file name, specially on my Oppo Blu-ray player.

Thanks,

Elder

An updated HDtracks Downloader is available here:

In a few days, when HDtracks changes their server, this one will start automatically when you've made a purchase.

I'm getting multiple fails.  Trying to download GD - American Beauty and have 6 songs downloaed out of 30 attempts.  I'm on Windows 8 with a fairly new fresh install.  This is such a headache!

Update: When I increase the Jrivers downloader to the max 7 simultaneous downloads, it seem to have more success.

  • Requires "iTunes or better" so I installed JRiver

I just downloaded Josh Groban's Noel album. I initially placed my order by using the HD Tracks plugin in JRiver. However, it would not launch the downloader using the chromium engine or when I tried directly from a Chrome browser. It does work with IE. It seems HD Tracks is still not using the JRiver downloader. I stopped it and downloaded the latest posted here.

It downloaded all songs except the last two, which showed as failed. I was not able to continue downloading from within the Downloader. I had to exit it and reopen it before the final two songs would download. I think the songs failed because I logged on to the HDTracks in my browser while the download was happening. I then clicked to continue the download to see if it would now use the JRiver Downloader. It started their own downloader again which I think caused the last two songs to fail.

Tracks with the same name do not download
« Reply #37 on: December 29, 2012, 07:07:07 am »

I sent the following message to HDTracks, but the problem may be with JR's downloading software (Windows version) ...

Quote
Yesterday I purchased 3 HD albums (Order# HD449786), one of which was Paul Simon's "Graceland" which should have come with 17 tracks.  In the end, only 16 were downloaded and I'm missing #15 "You can call me Al"

I have no idea what happened.  I used the HDTracks downloader that is available via JRiver.  It appeared to work perfectly, as if track #15 wasn't made available ... i.e., it never stalled.  Hmmmm(?)  The downloader implies it was downloaded(?) ... I believe I know what happened.  There are 2 versions of "You can call me Al", and your filenames do not include the track#.  I believe the #15 track refused to overwrite the #6 track, essentially because both files have the same name.  I'll also report this to JRiver ...

Holidays' Cheers & thank you for your excellent support ...

Since the downloader is made by JRiver, perhaps JRiver Media Center could be added to the other media players under the "please choose your default format" section that is setup online in "my account".

Note:  The Chicago Manual of Style (16th edition from 2010) allows for periods to be outside the quotation marks for computer instruction.  ;)

  • Requires "iTunes or better" so I installed JRiver

Yesterday three of my tracks failed to download. Clicking "Check for new Downloads" did not restart them. I had to restart the HDtracks Downloader in for the failed tracks to download. For many users this probably isn't very intuitive - especially since the HDtracks Downloader opens automatically after a purchase.

I first thought the "Check for new Downloads" (which I doubt will be be used much) should become "Check for new Downloads/Retry failed Downloads". However, "failed" gives a negative impression.

Since a user may need to pause a download, how about having a Pause and Resume button? The Resume button will also restart failed downloads and seems much more intuitive than having to restart the HDtracks Downloader.

I am unable to get the HDtracks Downloader to install on my desktop computer (Windows7, 32-bit), manually. I have tried both 18.0.111 and 18.0.125 (from HDtracks) over and over with the same result. The files are extracted but then it never installs. It is installed just fine on my laptop (Windows7, 64-bit), btw, and it used to be installed on my desktop before I recently did a clean install of Windows7.

Any ideas? Thanks.

This downloader has all the functionality of the former HDtracks Download Manager and will soon replace it.  It also allows you to choose your favorite format (WAV, FLAC, etc.).

Except for being platform dependent...

When you're a Linux user (like me) and thus left in cold by HDtracks, you can however get the Windows version working. See my article Using the JRiver HDtracks downloader on Linux (Ubuntu/Debian).

I've been trying for hours to get my tracks downloaded.

I did try on an old Imac that I have lying around.  That osx downloader will only download AIFF however, which is useless to me... even though my hdtracks account is set to prefer FLAC.

ronalde:  thanks for the linux hack... I'm still having a problem with the wine solution, though it seems the crypto fix works.

Error looks like this:
fixme:wininet:query_global_option INTERNET_OPTION_CONNECTED_STATE: semi-stub
fixme:wininet:InternetSetOptionW INTERNET_OPTION_SEND/RECEIVE_TIMEOUT/DATA_SEND_TIMEOUT 20000

I think that wine has no access to my internet device?  Do you know how to fix it, I'm no wine/windows expert.

thanks   -bruce.

I believe the old downloader (not from JRiver) still works on Linux.  And HDtracks has a Mac version of our downloader on their site.

Hi.. thanks for reply.

The downloader auto-selects AIFF, even though my account profile is set to prefer FLAC.
Not sure where to change that behavior.

I know this is off-topic for this thread, I have asked for support at hdtracks.

best           -bruce.

If it does, then it may not be the most current version available.
