I purchased an Id Classic last month and have spent several days trying to get it set up without success. My goal was to use the Id connected by USB to my surround sound processor. I want to connect a 1TB WD passport external drive connected by USB to the Id to store my Music files. The Id will be controlled by a MacBook Air using MC23. The Id was connected to my LAN via ethernet cable and the MacBook Air connects to the LAN wireless. I do not have access to a windows computer or Internet Explorer. The Id will need to be run headless without a monitor once it is set up.
You should be able to do this, that's a normal use case.
When I connected the Id via HDMI to my TV I went through the install guide instructions but could not find the Id in MC on the MacBook Air. I also could not confirm that the WD passport had been mounted. Here are my questions at this point;
1. Is it possible to set up and operate the Id in my environment using only Apple computers as I have described above?
2. If the answer to #1 is yes then how do I locate the Id in MC23 on the MacBook Air. I could not find it under Playing Now.
3. How do I change the output on the Id from HDMI to USB? I tried to switch the output from HDMI to USB going into Tools-Options-Media Network without success.
3. How to I mount the WD passport external drive to the Id and confirm it is operating properly?
Thanks,
Ron
If Media Network is enabled on your Mac you should be able to see the Id on your Mac MC under Playing Now. If that's not the case you should check the network connection on the Id (wired or wireless?)
You don't need windows to manage the Id, there are several different ways of doing it:
Panel is one (once you see it in MC on the Mac).
Another is VNC or Remote Desktop to connect directly to the Id GUI (you can get both VNC and Remote Desktop for the Mac, Remote Desktop is available from Apple free and TigerVNC is available for the Mac free).
If you have a monitor and keyboard attached for configuration, you can do basic setup from the headless mode text menu.
You change the output from internal to USB either with Panel or in the MC Audio Options menu on the Id (via VNC, etc).
