I'm unable to install this.  It downloads and appears to install, but then gives an error message "unable to register object" with a reference to the .dll file in the visualizations\3D folder.  The folder and files are there, but the visualization isn't available in MC.

I tried the "Add Plugin" function in the plugin manager by choosing the .dll file, but that didn't work either.

I am still in my 30 day trial.  Do I need to purchase MC to install this?  Or is there another problem?

Cool....... very very cool

As for ideas, how about integrating track information into the visuals themselves in a subtle fashion.

I don't believe we've tested it on Win98/ME.  Updating DirectX might help.

Hey there..

Wow on the new vis... I couldnt stand the built in visualisation studio that came with MC, ran slow as hell if you wanted to see anything mildly interesting, and still didnt compare to vis's like Geiss or G-Force for sheer coolness.

The new 3d vis however, runs GREAT and looks GREAT. Cant wait to start tinkering with the presets.... The thing is, I've been reading everywhere that it's killing cards, but I'm running on a GeForce 2 MX 400 64MB, and I cant get it below 25fps on preset 0, 35fps on preset 1, and nothing below 80fps on the rest, and this is in 1152x864x32 full-screen.

Hmm.  I also have Win 98.  Will try updating DirectX and will post back.

It seems like it may be time for an upgrade to XP...

It won't work on Win98 / ME yet.  We need to include the Unicode emulation stuff.  Early next week...

And don't think too much about framerates yet.  It's still in the proof-of-concept stage.  Optimization comes later.

Thanks everyone.

Great.  Thanks.  I guess I can hold off on the upgrade to XP for a while longer.  :D

These Visualisations are great - but why does the second download of these visualisations remove a number of the first download visualisations ??

In the first download you had a CUBE which would bounce around and show the CD cover image.  But now I don't have this one anymore ??  I think it was preset 3.

I like this one the most - any chance of having it back..

Thanks,

Mark

Sweet 3-d, looks great on my system!  (P4 1.5GHz, 768 PC133, Geforce4 64MB AGP)  Thanks!

Jim, my biggest and best brainstorm would be something that looked and worked like Monkey for Winamp.  It's such a freakishly nice visual, I considered switching to Winamp just for it.

(Though I quickly reconsidered about 5 minutes after I installed it)

If you've never seen Monkey, install Winamp and it and put on some chill music, it's by far the coolest visual I've ever seen!  I'd LOVE to have something just like it for MC!

Matt-

Brainstorming idea...

Mobius curve, with the option to use our own images.

Option to choose pics to use instead of cover art for all visuals would be cool.

brainstorming, eh?

A terrain flyover, with terrain features defined by EQ? Could be hills and valleys, or a megalopolis, etc. Wrap them to a sphere, limit the field of view and use backface culling to reduce calcs.

Particle emitters whose spray velocity and width can be tied to EQ?

Object explosions on amplitude peaks? Gotta have things blow up  ;)

Realistic asteroids might be texture intensive, but object fields are fun to fly through, especially if there are some collision events.

Some selective coloring/texturing and a "blacklight" mode would enhance nearly any geometry  ;D

And the obvious ones: change textures, objects, lighting color/position/intensity, camera position/orientation/speed on definable EQ events.

Brainstorm??  I had a storm in my brain once . . . .
I think the lightening short-circuited something . .. .  :-/

OK,
3d balls of mercury, rolling around in a bowl made of  album covers which are reflecting off the mercury . . . .
the balls can hit each other and slpash into smaller balls or, merge into larger balls (musical pinball or croquet game?)
the balls could all collide in the center of the bowl and with a splatter of silver spin into a new dimension where the bolw is made of the mercury and the balls are  now the album cover art

gee it looks better in my head than it sounds here  :o

There's a newer version available.

http://ftp://ftp.jriver.com/pub/downloads/music/tmp/vis_3D.mjp

Changes:

  • works on Win9x / ME
  • gives informative error messages when Direct3D can't start or isn't installed
  • added a new preset demonstrating a particle system

Particles are looking really good

FWIW Preset 4 (the tunnel I think) not working for me though - just a blank screen changing colour. Using Win XP.

Hmm, no textures on the objects in presets 1, 2, and 5. Background textures look fine, but the squiggly lines and the 3D text just render as black. Particles look cool, and are textured. Most of the presets lag/stall - camera/POV stops moving, though the framerate indicator still reads 33.7 fps.

Found a pretty wierd bug with the visuals.  I had some files that were linking to a cover file that no longer existed. This made all the visuals appear very strangely as there was no actual cover art but preset 6 crashed Media Core everytime.

Also found that using the visuals with files that contain cover art I get nearly 90fps using with files that do not contain cover art it is nearer forty...

Adam

IGNORE ME: I guess it may have been my PC.  I now get nearer to 80 with everything.  I think it was cos I changed the framerate while it was playing and then found that it didn't change until you stopped playback...

Visualizations are very interesting...I loaded it and watched and thought....that's kindda cool.  But I haven't been using visualizations at all.  I like to look at the info on the track I'm playing if anything.  But most of the time I put music on in the background and I'm doing something else...either on the computer or around the house.  Who sits at the computer and fancinates at the screen??

Well I must admit, for someone who doesn't watch the visualizations, I sure have spent some time enjoying these!!

Well, still get the same problems with texturing/surfacing as reported above, as well as the timing delays.

Stupid question....

Is there a way to get rid of the 'JRiver - FPS' text?  Or will that only be removed in the release version?
