UPGRADE: Prices and Help for MC27
« on: July 06, 2020, 03:17:26 pm »

Edit by JimH -- Please see the new thread on MC28 upgrades:
https://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php/topic,129290.0.html

You can purchase a JRiver Media Center 27 upgrade license at a discount.  All licenses sold are for MC27 and will also work with MC26.0.98  or higher.

JRiver Media Center 27 is now available on the Download Page.  MC27 will continue to improve throughout the year.  Minor upgrades are free.

Upgrade Prices

You can use a license from any previous version of JRiver Media Center, even Media Jukebox 8.0, to upgrade.

The discounted price to upgrade for Windows, Mac or Linux is $26.98.  A Master License upgrade for all three OS's is $39.98.

INSTRUCTIONS
To direct you, we need to check a few things.

1.  Have you ever purchased MC?
If not, there is no upgrade price.  Sorry.  Here's how to download and purchase a license.

2.  Do you have your Registration Code for your older version?
If not, you can email it to yourself Here.

Now you're ready to purchase, but we need to know what OS you have and what license you want.

3.  Are you planning to use more than one OS?
If so, you will need a Master License, which works with Windows, Mac, and Linux.  You can purchase from the Help menu of a current version or you can go here:

Master License Upgrade (direct link)    $39.98

5.  Or do you only need Windows or only Mac or only Linux?
Then you can get the new license here:

Windows Upgrade (direct link)    $26.98
Requires 27.0.79 or higher from the top of this board.

Mac Upgrade (direct link)    $26.98

Linux Upgrade (direct link)    $26.98

Problems
Requires 27.0.79 from the top of this board.
Is your license not accepted when you upgrade?
Make sure you're on the right upgrade page.
Use copy and paste.  0 (zero) and O (letter) look alike.  So do 1 (number one) and l or I (letters).

Don't have your license?  Visit the Restore Page  and use option #2 to email yourself your license(s).

More
Restore your license

Restoring a backup of your library.  MC makes them automatically.  You can use your OS to search for zip files to find them.  MC can restore a backup from MC20 and above.

You can use translate.google.com to translate this page.

Hopefully a quick question...

Having done a portable install of MC 26 onto a removable USB drive, Windows 10 now appears to want to open the .mjr file with a program that resides out on drive H:, which corresponds to that portable installation.

Do I need to get my desktop installation (in the usual spot, C:) using the new .mjr file?

I should clarify that double-clicking on the .mjr file doesn't seem to be working, as it brings up a dialog box.  That's where I saw the H: drive reference.

Would it be appropriate to navigate to the "C:\Program Files\J River\Media Center 26" directory and pick some .exe there to open the file?

Fix your file associations in Windows 10, so that the mjr file is opened by the MC installation on the C:\ drive. If you need more information search for posts by me about "File Associations".

Once MC26 has the new licence installed correctly, run the MC26 installation program again and select a Custom > Portable installation, and install on your portable device again. That will add the new licence to your portable device. It won't change anything in the Portable installation, other than the licence.

Default file association for .mjr as per the attached screenshot.

Double-clicking the new .mjr file results in MC opening, and it still reports as registered (phew), but there's no real indication of whether the license changed.  I guess I'll find out once MC 27 is available...

EDIT: I drew the arrow in the wrong spot in the screenshot!  Look one row down.

If you are running MC26, and you should be running MC26.0.98 to apply the MC27 licence, then the File Association should be as per the first attached image.

You also need to check that the association is with the correct Package Installer. You can do that by double-clicking on the mjr file, and in the Windows UAC dialogue that displays, click "Show more details" and then check that the Package Installer referenced is in the MC26 directory.

Double-clicking the new .mjr file results in MC opening, and it still reports as registered (phew), but there's no real indication of whether the license changed.  I guess I'll find out once MC 27 is available...

Successful installation of the licence does not result in MC being opened. It results in an onscreen message as per the second attached image, and a web page being opened in your default browser as per the third attached image.

Because of your current File Association for the mjr file pointing to the MC26 executable, MC tried to open the file as if it was a media file. You have not installed your MC27 licence.

There is no indication inside MC that the new licence has been applied. The "Help > Registration Info" menu option will just show which version is installed, and who MC is registered to, not the licence version. It will work with MC27 if the above happened.

Having bought a licence it would be nice to know when MC27 is actually going to be available, all of the mc27 links on this page take you to mc26 info.
EDIT - OK I've seen the mc27 topic now, it will be a long few months to wait, but having done 3 months of lockdown I think I can deal with it. ;D

I'm currently using MC25 and want to upgrade to MC27.  Do I download the latest MC26 build as a trial, update my libraries from MC25, then purchase the MC27 upgrade?

If possible, I'd like to move everything from MC25 to MC26, then qualify for MC27 when it's ready.  Please confirm the sequence, or tell me the best way to accomplish this.  Thanks.

Will there be a version of MC27 native for Apple Silicon when the first hardware is released later this year and if so, would the price for a Mac license cover native versions for both Intel and Apple Silicon?  Thanks!

I don't know what JRiver's plans are (or if they're even considering on support ARM on macOS) but if they are eventually going to do an ARM build of MC for Mac, I wouldn't expect it for a good while, perhaps not even during the MC27 release cycle... maybe not MC28 either. Depending on the amount of work needed (which is likely a ton) I honestly wouldn't be surprised if JRiver decided not to develop an ARM version of MC for Mac because of the large development costs likely needed for seemingly little gains. Once Intel Mac support is completely dropped by Apple in about 7 years, it might mean the end of the road for them supporting the Mac platform, but know knows I could be wrong on my guess. There's also other potential factors like the various issues they've had with Xcode for the last year and Apple's tightening grip of the entire ecosystem with them now moving into controlling all of the hardware side of things.

Going from x86_64 (Intel) to ARM (Apple's Silicon) isn't an easy or quick process. I'm not sure if any of the ARM code for the MC for Linux version could be leveraged or not, but I'm going to guess no. One of the biggest hurdles is likely they'd need to re-write the OpenGL code MC for Mac uses for Metal 2, which is likely a large undertaking. With Apple also intending to drop AMD GPUs and replace them with Apple GPUs, re-writing a large portion of the application is likely unavoidable.

I know for me, once Intel Macs (and Hackintoshes) go away and all supported Macs are ARM-based, that it's the end of the road for me with using Macs and macOS.

Today I purchased a Mediacenter 27 Master Licence and updated the licence on MC26 on my Windows 10 machine.

I also have a Mediacenter 26 install on a Ubuntu 20.04 box installed using the repository /stable.../jessie main.  At this time it shows v 26.0.73 is installed. After pasting in the key I get a "your licence is for a different product" message.  Also tried the install by way of command line, and got the same error message.

The date stamp between my Windows machine and Linux are different by 5 hours (windows thinks its 5 hours ahead).  I changed the time on my Linux machine to that of Windows and tried the install, and again got that same error message.

The Linux install of MC26 still says I have some days left in my trial period, so I know the licence install has not taken hold.

What do I need to do to get my Master Licence working on a Linux MC26?  I suspect that I have to go to 26.0.98 but where is that? In the most current repository? How do I change to a different repository and update from that?  Thanks.

You need to install a newer version of MC26 for it to use a MC27 license. Easiest way to do it is to look at the Ubuntu tutorial and switch to the latest channel from the stable channel and check for updates (and install the updated MC26 build).

https://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php/topic,123664.0.html

EDIT: Just make sure Media Center is fully closed, then use this command in a Terminal...

Code: [Select]
sudo wget http://dist.jriver.com/latest/mediacenter/mediacenter26.list -O /etc/apt/sources.list.d/mediacenter26.list && sudo apt-get update
From there check for updates in Ubuntu like you normally do, there should be a Media Center 26 update.

Thanks, Awesome Donkey.  The switch to the "latest" repository went seamlessly following those instructions.  Linux latest and even in the beta is still at 26.0.94, not at 26.0.98 which I understand will accept a MC 27 licence.

You can now order a JRiver Media Center 27 upgrade license at a discount

Early builds of JRiver Media Center 27 are now available on the Download Page.  These will improve on MC25, and MC26 will continue to improve throughout the year.

Bought the upgrade, ofcourse. just wondering if i need to buy new specs too.  8) i cant find the early build on the download page .

Actually I think that wording is a mistake, as MC27 hasn't been released yet and it'll probably be several months until it is.

In the meantime, MC27 licenses will work fine with the latest MC26 builds, e.g. MC 26.0.98. :)

Longtime MC user (since 2008). I recently bought a full Linux license in the hopes of migrating my setup from Windows. I failed, simply couldn't get it to work, and just installed a VM again to use my MC26 Windows license. Can I cancel the Linux license and transfer the payment to renewing for MC27 for Windows? You can keep the difference.

I just purchased a Master Licence. I don’t know what went wrong but I was sent two registration emails with different registration numbers. I checked my VISA activity and I Confirmed that I have been charged twice.  Please correct this double billing.
Should I post this as a separate topic to have corrected?

Hello,
I just purchased MC26 on March 3, 2020. Is my licence good for Windows MC27 or do I have to spend more more for the upgrade? It wasn't that long ago.....

Thank you.

any possibility JRiver could be modified to control the Technics  ST-G30 ripper/server?  I really like this unit but the Technics Music App is very limited in functionality compared to JRiver.  So far I have been unable to access my files through my LAN on the ST-G30 for playback on my Windows 10 based PC.

I actually have just purchased MC26 Master License in end of May (the 27th).

Do I have to purchase the upgrade to use MC27 now?
Didn’t know just about one month and I’ll have to pay to upgrade.

Same question, purchased on May 18th.

I have exactly the same problem. Tried Paypal, then tried again with credit card. Both failed. It does not seem to be a bank issue, as Paypal and credit card are not related.

Tried with 2 different cards (visa and master) and paypal. Same error everywhere.
Same cards (and paypal) work on amazon (tried today).
+ I tried with 3 different browsers (Firefox, safary and brave)

Where are you located?  What OS are you using?

Send me your details and I'll check our logs.  I'm jimh at jriver.

I've seen a couple other similar problems and there were no transactions (failed or otherwise) in our logs.   That means it's not getting to our server.  And that suggests a possible antivirus problem or similar on your machine.

Same error here. And it has nothing to do (HIGHLY probably) with my credit card bank. Also I tried with my Paypal account. SAME error!
And now? I can't change my system for only this purchase ...

We had the same problem last year a few times, then it cleared up.

Same issue with me. Multiple credit cards. So do we just wait and try again later?

We're looking at the problem.  Maybe try in a few hours.

It appears to be with a very small subset of customers.  Almost all transactions are succeeding.
