To JRiver Staff - Buying license for older versions
« on: May 22, 2024, 05:09:58 pm »

I didn't know where else to put this. There wasn't any email listed.

I have licenses for MC 20,21 and 22. I currently use them on one PC. I want to use them on two PCs. Windows. I have only one license for each. I understand I may need to buy licenses to do this, I am happy to do this. If the JRiver staff could tell me how to purchase licenses for these older versions so I may use them on multiple PCs. Also if they could provide links to download certain older versions along with the license that would be great. The links need not be online permanently, only until I can download the installer. Please help me.

I do not want the newest version of JRiver. I am interested only in 20,21 and 22.

Thank you.

You can use a single MC license on multiple personal computers, no problem.

Hi, are you from JRiver? That is is this the official position of JRiver? If not can someone from JRiver please confirm? It would be helpful.

Hi, I don't need to restore a licence, I need to buy a new license for old software if needed. Also I did see the versions offered here but was looking for some other versions.

Well, if you search JimH's posts (he's JRiver's CEO) he's posted multiple times that a license can be used on multiple machines, within reason. I assume like 3 or 4 machines are more than fine. I'm sure when it becomes 10, 15, 20, etc. then it can be an issue. Since you mentioned two, it should be fine.

One of the many posts Jim has responded to similar questions: https://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php/topic,129370.msg929303.html#msg929303 in fact the whole topic is a good one: https://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php/topic,129370.0.html

The catch is the license has to match the type of license you have. For example if you have a Windows license, then it'll work on Windows machines. If you have a master license then you can install and use it on Windows, Mac and Linux machines.

Hi, I don't need to restore a licence, I need to buy a new license for old software if needed. Also I did see the versions offered here but was looking for some other versions.

However, this isn't possible. They don't sell old licenses for old versions, only the current version (which is Media Center 32) is available for sale (and current licenses won't work for old versions). This question has come up a few times over the years and I'm sure if you search more of Jim's posts you can see him shooting down inquiries on selling old licenses.

I am not staff.
You do need to restore your license to install it on other PCs. The link I gave you is a post from the CEO pointing to all the information you need, including the licensing policy ("please read this"). The other links are the official download links for the versions you asked.

You can also find their email address if you go to their homepage and read.

Hi Jim, sorry I could not find the answer to my question in the link. It is about upgrading/restoring?

Can you please let me know if I can use my license for MC 20,21,22 on 2 PCs simultaneously, also if a license purchase is required to do so, is that possible? How do I do it? Finally please let me know about downloading older versions of MC, not available on the forum.

I'd like to note I am not interested in MC32 currently.

I'm not sure what you're asking.  Restoring a License on the wiki explains how to find an old version and how to use an old license with it.  But those old versions may not work at all on a Mac.

If you want to switch to Windows, you must buy the MC32 Windows upgrade or a Master License upgrade.  MC32 is the only license available.

Hi Jim, thank you for the response, please allow me to try to explain again.

I have a licence for MC 20,21 and 22. I currently use all 3 on one PC (Windows). I want to setup a second PC (Windows) where I wish to use MC 20,21 and 22, at the same time I want to continue to use MC 20,21 and 22 on the PC where I currently have it installed. I am familiar with the restore and installation procedures but thank you for pointing it out. If I need help regarding those I will read your link or ask for help again but I am not asking for help regarding that right now.

Here is my question -

Do I need to purchase a new license for MC 20,21 and 22 to use them on 2 PCs simultaneously. I currently use them on one PC.

If I do not need a new license then great, please look at the next question. If I do need a license, how can I purchase one?

I am looking for certain versions of older MC that are not available on the forum, the pages exist with a link but the link does not work. Can you send me these versions? I do not ask to host the links/versions for a long time, only long enough for me to download the installer.

Thank you. I hope I will be able to use the older MC on 2 PCs.

One license is enough.

Old Versions on the wiki.
