And what do you do when it starts taking commands from the Wizard of Oz? Hmmm. That might be kinda cool. But wait...You could record videos of yourself giving the program commands—Video Macros! 8)

or hook up with cyberbuddy owner. i use to know him. his robot you can teach things to and he will rememeber them. and your name where ya live whatever. you teach the robot and it remmebers ya YEARS later. i had some enjoyment playing with cyber when i first learned computers... been yrs since i been there. may have to go back there :)

the direct link to cyber bot is down(left hand side cyberbot box)...http://www.mycyberbuddy.com/ but i'm sure if jriver wanted to check it out the owner who made cyber bot (mark? if i recall been over 9 years since i been there) could give em a demo.. then JRiver could tell apple where to stick it when apple tries stealing there idea. Interesting, but it doesn't quite work like that. DNS is actually very good at only listening to your voice and integration would also be a great marketing tool for accessibility - something that is often overlook with almost all small software projects.

I'm starting to think it would be immensely useful if we could add Navigation items to the right click menu.  This would allow us to right click on a track and jump to, for example, smartlists built around the selection.  It might need an isselected() option (similar to the new isplaying()) to work so that we know what item is being selected.  But it would allow us a lot of new functionality for working with the item being right clicked...

Display Peaklevel on mainscreen

It would be nice to have peaklevel from dsp on the main screen, maybe instead of analyzer. Might be complemented by average level, if available somewhere or with dsp status/shortcut to dsp.

Chrome Styal Upgrade System.  Upgrades automatically downloaded in the background.
When you restart MC it automatically performs the upgrade.
Choice of different frequency of updates such as
-Bleeding Edge Dev upgrades
-Beta it's been out for a week or two and is pretty stable
-Rock solid you could drop it from a plane and the earth would break build.

How about a category to keep track of dates for "Last Burned" and/ or "Last Synced," that way you could set up a smartlist to burn/ sync songs that haven't been burned/ synced in a while?

I'm absolutely loving everything about MC otherwise!

REQUEST: Please have the Playing Now Zones change it's appearance according to whether or not it's playing. Currently they are all green. Could they be red or orange when paused or stopped? This would be helpful if you have several streams running an forgot to stop them.

I suppose this would be a convenience. But a more permanent and versatile solution is to save a playlist of whatever is burned/sync'd. Not only do those provide a permanent dated record (with notes, if necessary), they can easily be excluded from (or included in) future burns/sync's. If there's a lot of them—they can be managed using playlist groups (e.g., "recent" and "old burns/syncs") and those groups used in other smartlists. You could, for example, create one to fill a CD with "highly rated tracks synced more than once last year." 8)

It would be nice to have an internal field that would show a list of playlists a track has been included in.

I see what you mean, but that route seems to be getting a lot more complicated than what I was hoping for- I really just wanted to set up 1 simple smartlist and then 1-click burn a random disc of songs that I hadn't listened to in my car in a while.  Thanks for the response.

Is it possible to add the sync zone feature from standard view to the playing now theatre view window.  I have a few zones setup throughout the house and can obviously control what is playing in each zone from theatre view.  It would be nice to be able to sync all zones also from with in theatre view rather than having to go back out to standard view to do it.

Hello,

this is a feature request that I think would be very useful, at least to me ;-) : add a preview to the Fill Properties From Filename... library tool, please! Then, it could be nice to have it for other library tools as well..

Although I have used it, I don't find 3D Wall in MC15, and neither Wiki nor the Forum-Search for '3D Wall' is giving any support how to use it.
So - explain for Dummies: How to find 3D-Wall in MC15  :o ?!

would like to handle better network/removeable media
- need to have a field or visible option: show/hide network & removeable files, the current "Removable" field in the tag shows blank for a USB drive
- have the ability to change the drive letter: sometime when a drive re-connect, it will have a different drive letter, but the path... stays the same

is there a plugin or a function to remove duplicate,
either based on actual checksum (without the tags, to improve the match accuracy)

or by evaluting the frequency of a cerain interval of the file.

in general what are the options to find possible duplicates

DVD audio extractor can ripp DVDs in MP3, AC3 and so on.

Would be happy to get the same feature in MC15 - one software for all media files - as anounced from JRiver.

would like to freeze some column when scroling the librarry ( a bit like excel)

now the row title stays on when we scroll the file list,
however when a view have few fields selected to be viewed (like name, path, keyword, event, mod, ...), when i want to see the field mood, i loose the field name
will be good to have an option to feeze the left most field(s), so i can easely correlate with the field that are in the right most

DLNA Feature request - I think really easy, and would solve a really annoying issue I have with a DLNA set top box

Please add a DLNA option that allows me to manipulate the data sent to the DLNA client for the Name tag.

Feature would be:  "Data to send for Name"  with a textbox entry.  The textbox takes standard MC fields,  meaning I could configure it as:  "[Episode] - [Name]"

That would mean that, if this option is set, then MC would not just send the standard contents of Name, but it would automatically manipulate it as configured with this option.

Why?  Because my DLNA set top box always sorts the list of files in alphabetical order.  It is therefore ignoring any Track# or (in my case) Episode value for the sorting.   Adding the above option would allow me to fool the box into sorting my video files in the right order always.

I know mine isn't the only DLNA client with this sorting problem, so this would be a huge help.

(For extra configurability, it would be nice if the option could be applied independently to video, audio or images.  e..g a user might want it for Video, but not for Audio, because his DLNA box might already be sorting Audio in the right order.)

See this thread for more info

Last.Fm Scrobbler working together with DLNA
« Reply #174 on: May 19, 2010, 03:47:27 pm »

When I am using the DLNA feature in order to stream music stored on my Laptop, connected to WD-TV LIVE, connected to my HiFi, the LAST.FM plugin is not scrobbling the songs played.

Would be nice, if scrobbling works together with DLNA!

A few of my wishes have came true with MC15. That's the first time I can say yes I'm happy with an MC upgrade. However, a lot more can be still accomplished for MC, and some are them are just small add of features.

Control over the images in Theater View front end
Can the user get the ability to change and rotate the images displayed in Theater View background for Audio, Images, Television, etc...? I think it wouldn't be hard to just add an option in the Tools section of Theater View for that. I have tons of HD fan art that I'd love to bring in MC. Having one set of images showing up every time the program is open is not that exciting... especially when the user didn't make the choice for the specific images.

Extend the same control to the "Info" section of Theater View
This function should also be integrated in "Info" and 'Artist Views" sections. Currently, the images for info are being pulled I assume from Google Images which is fine, but there's no user control whatsoever about it and at times depending on the artist the info is being pulled for, all MC is showing are images not related to the artist being played. For most common and popular artists, Google will pull up the appropriate images in most cases. However, for certain artist with general name like Estelle, Well... any picture tagged Estelle shows up. I think it'll be fair to allow us an option to add fan art to the info section and rotate them with the Google images. We could select the balance between local fan art and Google where we could have MC rotate 10 locals fan art of the artist and mix it with the Google results. Heck, fan art is very popular with a lot of other Media Center software, MC can definitely allow us to get on the bandwagon.

Option to change space between covers in Theater View
In Standard View there's an option to set the space between the covers, I'd love to see that function bring over also to Theater View. Standard View with all default settings look awesome on my big screen with no spaced out covers and big font. I want to have the ability to change the covers size in Theater View and decrease the space they have in between them. I don't care much for the big font size, I want to find a way to decrease that too.

Put Performer Information to use in Local Library
Currently there are a few ways to pull biography and albums info in MC or with PM Lyrics plugin and the likes. However, whenever I click on the Google or Wiki links on the upper right side, I feel like disconnected from MC. Automatically the interface becomes something else... like, dude, you are on Wikipedia :-). And I'm thinking, will it be hard to actually have the artists info available on Performer link to MC even when playing local files? For Movies, in MC15, now a user can just hover on a cover and get all the meta info needed by retaining the themes and layout of MC without feeling leaving the program. Is there a way to make MC reads Performer and pull the artist data whenever a file is being played so that when the user tries to get info on that artist, it would send him to the Performer interface where the artists info are available. That can expand to even give the user recommendations for more music of that same artists or other artists that may be similar, kind of like what lastfm does? I mean, I maybe hype about this for nothing but wouldn't that be dope?

What you guys think?

My wishlist for MC15:
- Internal Web page zooming. Would be useful especially in Theater View
- DVB-C support for TV-cards with BDA-drivers
  - DVB subtitles support
  - multiple channels (within the same mux) recording with one tuner.

my biggest desire

the action bar in a own windows on my second monitor.
when mc starts the new acction windows starts always at my second monitor

The function "rename, move, & copy files". It would be nice wen i can save my "Directories" and "Filename" in a set.

The function "move / copy fields" it would be nice wen i can save my "Source"  "Destination" and "Action" in a set.

I don't care about features such as tweeting to the world what I am listening to.  For me there's more basic improvements that can be made.

For example... the  TV LiveTV/Channel/Guide layout not intuitive.  How about a traditional scrolling grid with the channels listed vertically and time slots list horizontally.  It's the only thing holding MC from ultimate status :)

Agreed, and a status bar like TiVo (or any other DVR) in TV viewing mode.  The ability to just FF or RW a show and see the show in fast, faster, fastest speed live, as it's progressing, and hitting play backs up a bit like TiVo.  I know i can skip 30 seconds at a time, but it's not visual, and doesn't always work each time I press it, so I'm never sure how much I have skipped, or if I'm close to TV again, or if I still have 3 more commercials to skip.

and the ability to placeshift TV; to watch Live TV or setup recordings from a client machine that doesn't have a physical tuner installed.  I have 2 in the server, use one of them :)

Hi, firstly MC is certainly, from an audio point of view, the best media player / management application around and certainly worthy of audiophile use. As someone who's business is in high end AV and systems integration, I'm pretty convinced of this.

From my point of view, I would like to see development on never ending 'features' reduce before MC turns into a bloated desktop application.

What would be an upgrade is for attention to be paid to a rewrite or significant extension to the existing API. People have been asking for better remote control functionality from TCP/IP devices for a long time now and not much has happened. Web Remote is not an answer. Far from it. A better API opens up MC to be used with third party control products properly so people can search media libraries and make use of MC's unique functions like multi-zone audio and synchronising of outputs.

In my world, media servers are now common place and the market is shifting to clients using 'PC' products for this purpose rather than waste money on proprietary offerings. However control of these devices by iPhones, UMPC's and with control products from companies like AMX and Crestron is of the utmost importance. Crap like iTunes can be controlled via third party software, as can WMP and Windows Media Center. MC is so poor in this regard as to make the existing API useless.

I really think this is a priority.

You may be missing some pieces.  Please start a thread on this subject.  I think you'll find that what you're proposing is already there.  MC has a web services interface.

Jim,

I have done as you suggested, lets see what happens.

I did think of another function that would be very nice.

1) An auxiliary input feature that lets users plug in another device via analogue or digital to their sound card and have MC process it as a media source.

Assuming its selectable via the remote (or API) then if MC is connected to Power Amps, you could use it as a switcher so that you don't need something else if you have a Satellite or Cable box in addition to your PC.

+1 for the Auxiliary Input Feature.  This would solve a good amount of problems with my setup.

Theaterview with Dragon Naturally Speaking Incorporated into it

Screw the keyboards, mice, remotes!
i know personally microphones are good enough out there. i use to do video conferencing rooms. you can be on the other side of the room and they will pick up your commands.

hmmm
nice, but would not work well a lot of the time... in my experience, voice commands don't work well when you're listening to moderately loud music, or when you have other people conversing in the room. you would have to turn the music off first, tell people to shut up, and then deliver a voice command. I have a Russian wife, that wouldn't be easy!  :)

Matt says it's already on the list, but here's a reminder for changes to viewschemes made on a client connected to library server.  These changes aren't currently saved to the main library.

Another feature request:

MC DSP to support VST plugins on a per channel basis, so one can route any channel to each VST plugin.

Otherwise, it might be simpler to support Console (http://www.console.jp/en/download.html) as in http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=57917.0

Thanks

When tagging music, have different tagging categories that show set tag fields for each tag category, i.e.

Show Tags for "Jazz"
  • Piano
  • Drums
  • Tenor Saxophone

Show Tags for "Movies"
  • Director
  • Actors

etc.

I know how improbable this is, given precedent, but if MC 15 can support Zune HD syncing, I will be really, really pleased.  The Zune software has a couple bugs too many, and it's not nearly as comprehensive as MC.  The Zune HD is a great device marred by a flawed software and unrefined firmware.  I have reason to believe that with just a few changes, it would be more than a worthy competitor to iPod--not that it matters, since iPod is pretty much king and will most likely stay that way.  But MC syncing would definitely put the Zune HD in a very beautiful position.

My requests is to improve usability of MC as a image viewer.

I suggest integrate "preview image" inside "Display view".

Make it a user option (with appropriate warnings) to have MC delete fields that are not in the file tags upon an update library from tags.

Show 0 values in MC.

In a misguided attempt to be extremely clear I tagged my flac non-compilation albums with the Vorbis comment COMPILATION=0. I later discovered that Squeezebox server mistreats albums tagged that way (it treats null and 0 differently) so I used a tagging software to delete the tags.  I could not use MC for that purpose since MC treats 0 and null values in fields the same way, the 0 does not show up. (I know I could have entered in MC a value in the compilation tags of all my non-compilation flac files and then deleted that value, but that would have triggered some 24 hrs of backup time for my files.) Every time I use MC to change a tag in a flac file that previously had COMPILATION=0 in the file tag the 0 value, which MC remembers but does not show, gets written back to the tag and causes problems with Squeezebox server.

And PLEASE let me use the TORY tag in ID3v.2.3 mp3 files (http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=50762.msg361205#msg361205 and http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=56698.msg384787#msg384787). It is really annoying to not being able to get that tag into a MC field.

TV Server Functionality Feature
« Reply #193 on: July 03, 2010, 06:46:58 pm »

Might as well put in a request here for this, although I did post to a separate thread.

TV Server functionality. A way that a MC Server can utilise different TV cards (DVB-C, DVB-S/S2, DVB-T etc) so that clients can view a conman EPG of all potential channels to watch live and record.

+1 for all 3 of these, plus add Glynor to the list for server / place shifting.

I may get flamed for this, but here goes...

The network / DLNA stuff is great (even though I don't use it yet) but the way I see it, if the initial software doesn't act / work the way people want it to, then they're not going to purchase it to care about the DLNA stuff.

Most average Joes are still coming to grips with the term HTPC, let alone DLNA.

Kind of like putting the cart before the horse IMO...

Another +1 for the TV server, that would be awesome.  I have many rooms without any kind of TV aerial - it would be great to have a MC server which had, lets say, a Freeview (over-the-air) and Freesat (satellite) adapters and for clients to be able to choose which of those channels they wanted to watch.   I have an English-speaking friend who lives in Germany and can receive both UK and German satellite signals simultaneously, with different tuners - he'd love the ability to serve those as a combined master list of channels for clients to choose from.

I don't think anyone will flame you for your honest opinions - but personally, I don't get what your actual feature suggestion is.  What is missing / what needs to change in order to make MC better in this regard?

Are you saying it's too complex and not point-and-click/wizardy enough for the average user?  If so, I agree - though to be honest I have never thought of MC as a completely mainstream, idiot-friendly app.  I regard it as one up from that - it's enthusiast level.  It can be friendly for a non-techy end user if an enthusiast has set it up for them.  So my Dad uses MC and really enjoys having all his music and video neatly tagged and categorised, and it is a MC DLNA server which my Mum accesses from a DLNA set-top-box.  But of course, I set all this up for them - they wouldn't have had a hope in hell of doing it.  There are other media programs where my Dad might have had a chance of setting it up - Microsoft Media Player/Server for example, where they have spent a huge amount of time making it non-technical.

But personally I have no problem if MC stays at this level.  Dumbing it down to be easy for even the most tech-challenged user is a) hard  b) often associated with a compromise on more complex features, which I would not like, and I think a lot of other MC users would not like.   In fact I wish it were more techy in many ways - I have wanted for years the ability to manipulate my library tags using regular expressions and other advanced string manipulation features  (like Foobar has).

Anyway, I do agree that DLNA needs some work - for one thing, there are a dozen configuration options and it's unclear which does what and why one would set them.   But the network features get better in MC with nearly every release, so I am confident this will all be a lot smoother in future.

My feature request was the TV Server / Client functionality.

The second part was simply opinion that I believe this should have taken precedence over DLNA (or at least been developed in tandem with it) given it has been requested a few times now and we keep getting the same response - Start recording and watch the recording semi-live - which is not the same as the place shifting functionality that is being requested. Is this not essentially a networking function that could have been developed at the same time (taking into account resource restrictions, of course)?

I understand opinion is probably off topic, though, and apologise.

Somehow I´m a bit confused  ? about this thread.
A lot of good ideas are posted here but when and what will be transfered into to MC15?
Why should we all here bring in our ideas and the will be not considered?
If you have a look on this thread http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=58467.0 you find just "changed" or "fixed". Only a few "new" are there and these "new" are not requests and ideas from this thread here.

Would be nice to get a short answer from our admins.

Sorry for beeing so direct. ;D

I would like to have the ability to change the library on the library server from the client. Just like you can with locak libraries. Not beeing able to do this greatly diminishes the use of the library server function for me, and I would suspect other people who regularly change between libraries, and would like to use the library server.
