Youtube Problems [Partially Solved]
« on: February 09, 2015, 11:08:08 am »

I'm unable to play any youtube content when in Theatre view despite my credentials being saved in the app.

Seen this bug reported and fixed a few times but I'm not sure if I've done something wrong with the setup.

YouTube playback is working great here.  Strange.

Are you sure you're running the latest:

20.0.64 (1/29/2015)
6. Fixed: YouTube video playback was not working.

Make sure you're doing it right.

When you search or browse for a video in YouTube inside MC, to see the popup download/play/etc dialog, you have to hold Control and click on the item to open it.  If you just regular click on the item, it will open in a regular YouTube page inside MC's internal browser.

Yep, Got it to at least prompt. I thought I was running 20.0.66 but I was at a previous version.  Now on 20.0.66

However, when I try to download I get a "something went wrong with the playback.  Failed to find or open file (hr=0x80004005)

But if I try another video (older one) it works and I can save it locally.    No idea the difference (other than 10 years between the songs) :)

Youtube does use different methods for older and newer postings.

I have noticed that the Vevo vids will not download. My guess is they are copywrite protected, so i just try to find the same vid that's not a Vevo...just a thought to pass on.

Any idea how I know which is older or newer? is it just a matter of trying it out?

If that is the case,  should I open a ticket that some new video's won't download? I did a simple test with "wiggle wiggle" from Jason D (forgot the full name) as it was top on the list. That doesn't work but Pink Floyd does.

I am still unable to play any youtube videos while in Theatre view.  None at all.

I get the same error of ""The file could not be found.  Check that the filename in the library ..." on each video...

Running the latest 20.0.66 for Windows

20.0.68 should fix this:

Hi JimH,

I upgraded to 20.0.68 this morning and the first video I attmped to watch (some silly cat video) paused for a second, then issue the same
"Something went wrong with playback.
Details: The file could not be found. Check that the fileame in the library ..."
<OK> button

I checked my settings and my account is signed in. I've tried viewing about 10 different videos. All no go.

It's working here for most videos.

I found one browsing around for a bit that wouldn't play and gave that exact error: Failed to find or open file (hr=0x80004005), but I played a bunch of stuff that worked fine (15 or 20 videos).

I tried the one you mentioned, and it failed along along with the 10 other videos of Tayler Swift (No idea who that is) or another 20 videos.

I've yet to be able to get a single video working and this is a fresh install.  Well, yesterday was 20.0.64,  then today 20.0.68.  YouTube account logged in.  Theatre Mode.

Is there anything I can provide about my system to help fix this?

I've posted this before in the build thread but it may have not been noticed.

1) I find most YouTube videos will not play with a "Something went wrong with playback.  Failed to find or open file. (hr=0x80004005)"  Most of these that will not play are the ones marked as "vevo" under the "Music" option (see pic)

2) I'm getting the selection box appearing twice, once when I click on an item to play (as expected) but it then appears a second time over the top of the playback item (I just cancel it the second time).  See the other pic

I've never used Theater View for YouTube playback, but it's working fine for me. (as before; won't play content that requires ads, and is limited to 720p)

I'm not sure what I can do to show this problem.

It's not just vevo videos, ads, or some other characteristic that's thinking them together. I cannot load any videos at all.

I will try to record the screen and share it.

Maybe it would make sense to merge those topics.

While the threads are similar, I think they do warrant their own threads.

Can someone provide some assistance or help to gather some information for you to assess the problem. My install is a brand new one (3 days old since I bought the program)

I didn't watch your entire movie, but I played that exact Woman in Minivan video that you did in the example this morning as a test and it worked.  I just retested it now (it is still there) and it still worked.  So, I can confirm now that you are not just picking over-and-over the (on my system, relatively few) videos where it doesn't work.

Where are you?  I wonder if it is a regional thing.

PS. To others when stuff like this happens, please post links to specific examples whenever reporting an issue with YouTube or Podcasts or Live Streams or whatever.  Specific links.  It makes it very hard to test otherwise, and leaves you wondering about lots of possibilities.

We have I think a couple of different issues.

- "Something went wrong with playback" - this is what I get on a bunch on content
- "File could not be found" - eezetee issue (note: I too can playback the "Woman in Minivan" just fine)

- "File could not be found" - eezetee issue (note: I too can playback the "Woman in Minivan" just fine)

I get that exact "Failed to find or open file (hr=0x80004005)" error on other videos, such as the one I linked above, and these:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KWZGAExj-es
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=09R8_2nJtjg
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yOIu78gsGOQ
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bEOo311_yts

Those are mostly videos marked with "vevo" and all commercial music videos.  That seems to me to be the default "I can't play this video from this source and I don't know why" error message.

But these all work fine for me:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6aqXfF1iPdo
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6bh4mvJ5jUg
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S45OJnQp6mI
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TZPN9g2pmPQ
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k70xBg8en-4
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hqKafI7Amd8
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HgT1gtdC-PE

That includes some ad-supported content with pre-roll ads, and other commercial content like movie trailers and whatnot.  I don't know, I use the YouTube support nearly exclusively for movie trailers, and it works pretty well for that.

But, something seems to be not working specifically for this user (and maybe others too), but not everyone.  Best thing is to know what is different about his or her situation.

I'm located in Asia.   Unable to play any videos, as in not a single one.  I'm signed in with a youtube account and I can indeed play them but never in theatre view

Here is another video showing the same minivan video playing in the internal browser but not in Theatre view.

It is.  Apologies if I wasn't clear. I'm from a western country, just living in Asia.

System is Windows 7 64 bit, SP1 installed.  Only think that may be a bit strange (different) about my system is that it's running PLEX (until I get my jriver setup complete) as well as BlueIris (to monitor IP camera's)

Any log files you want me to supply?  Thanks for responding

Interesting.  How about the reverse?  Can you set your system language to something that "makes sense" for your location just as a test?  I'm reaching here, but I think I've seen issues in the distant past with online content in MC related to the system language settings.

It might be a wild goose chase.  Probably is, even, but worth checking.

The log package described here might be useful.  To be clear, I'm an admin on the forum but I don't work for JRiver (just help out on the forum).  They do heavily monitor this forum however, so no need to worry.

I'm not sure I follow.  My system is installed with English (US).  The location is United States (although I'm not but just a MS setting)

I'd be willing to open up teamviewer if a developer or support wanted to look at this system.  It's a brand new install basically as I don't know what 95% of the options do.

Sorry, I can't help either - but I'm writing to say that the YouTube video (car vs minivan) works fine from my laptop. Did you go to Tools>Options>Service and try adjusting the playback bitrate (mine is set at "1 Mbit or less") for YouTube? I don't know if that would matter but it might be worth a try.

I don't know how to get to the screen you show - but in Theater View > YouTube > Music Videos, there are music videos marked "Vevo" that fail to play ("something went wrong with playback ...").

Other YouTube music videos not marked Vevo play fine in Theater View.
Also, there are other YouTube music video Not marked with "vevo" that fail too. So after testing half a dozen, I'd say half play and half fail.

I see.
From this Standard View>Video>Connected Media, the "Vevo" music videos will play.

There are a bunch of Megan Trainor videos  :'(  that are marked vevo and play fine - well almost fine.

I just started one and the JRiver ("how do you want to play" message popped up) I selected the second choice )play file inside viewer) and now the sound is playing but there is a "Something went wrong with playback" message. But it is still playing behind the message window.

However if I select "show the web page" the audio and video both play normally.

In the Video > Connected Media > YouTube  tree view I can play anything from Youtube, including these Vevo videos.
My video is set for 1mb or less

I am still unable to play ANY video from View > Theatre View > Video > Youtube.

How can I open a case with the development team.  I appreciate everyone taking the time to repsond but this thread has swayed many times and I don't see how someone posting "well dude, it works on my laptop" is of any help to me or this issue.  Is there bonus points for post counts?

Rather frustrating.

The CTO and head developer at JRiver already commented on this thread. You've contacted them.

At this point, I don't think we know yet what is causing your issue.

If I can supply any other information, please do let me know.  Right now I'm at a loss as to what else I can provide other than the 2 video's above (again, apologies for the poor quality)

Setting up a networked library and will try 2 other devices soon.

wonder if it's anything to do with the proxies for the country that i'm in.   But then again, wen I goto the Tree enabled youtube, the video works fine but in theatre view, I've never been able to get any video to work.

I just tested on a brand new laptop. Installed .NET as required and without any media installed in MC, tried to view YouTube.  Nothing..

So this problem is not device specific, but appears to be regional,  atleast regional to either my residence or the country I'm in.  I will fire up a VPN service and see if the problem goes away.

I will also do a sniffer capture to see what's different in the Theatre View request versus browser based. I have an idea about proxy codes, so will test.

Is there anyone specific I should send this information or logs to?
