There hasn't been much progress in remotes over the last few years.  The originals by Microsoft were very good.  Since then, there is a lot of debris.  We spent several months testing.

There is another class of remotes at the $100 plus level that some people seem to like.  Ours is a good combination of quality and price.

Is there a way to make the volume control on the remote disabled so it doesn't turn the volume up or down in jriver media center?

In Options/Remote, try the remote wizard.  Teach the wizard what you want to send and then don't train the MC remote what to do (at the end).  I'm sorry but I don't have a better answer.  If you try, I think you'll find a way.

Evem if you teach the volume a totally non related function, it still controls the volume along with the new function. We need a lock volume switch in the volume menu or options.

Under Remote Control/Commands, you can edit the learned function and tell MC to "Supress system handling ..."

was about to order when I saw this:

"This remote works with JRiver Media Center version 14 or with Microsoft's Media Center on Vista or Windows 7."

Has it been tested to work on Windows XP?

I have it running on XP on two machines.  It will probably work, but you can return it within 30 days if it doesn't.

Here it works like a charm in theatre view with XP Home edition after I have installed this driver: http://www.ironclad.net/pinnacle_remote_kit/

This driver is suggested by J.R. somewhere on the order pages (but it is hidden somewhat).

In order to make the Green Button work with portable MC I've started using Intelliremote, which is working well.
This just leaves the learning capability missing although maybe this is possible with Intelliremote also.
It would be nice to see this resolved in a future build of MC however.
MC Life with the remote is much better in any case.  No more standing up for me.  Does JRiver plan an exercise machine to go with it?

On the package, will the value be stated without shipping charges? If the value is above 30-something dollars it will be stopped by customs in norway, and you haveto pay a pretty big handling fee (about 25 dollars), so I would rather that that didn't happen.

I just got my MC Remote, and it is mostly working.  But the Remote Control wizard won't run.

System:  Windows XP SP3
MC:  Tried 14.0.71 and 14.0.90

Installation went fine:

1. I plugged two transmitters into the ports on the back of the receiver
2. I plugged in the receiver to a USB port.  windows found the new hardware OK, annoucing it as eHome Infrared Receiver.
3. Confirmed under System -> Hardware that I have an eHome Infrared Receiver listed under Universal Serial Bus Controllers
4. Confirmed that Media Server is set to run on Windows startup and is running now.

But Media Center won't detect it:

When I click Next on the Remote Control wizard, it says:

"You don't appear to have a Media Center receiver connected to your computer.  Please connect and try again."

Since then I have tried:

1. Rebooting
2. Deleting the eHome Infrared Receiver item in Hardware, then plugging the receiver back in -  it was detected again as usual, no change on MC though.
3. Removing one or both transmitters from the receiver.

The remote is working fine in general:

If I open notepad and then hit a number button on the remote - 1,2,3 etc - then the corresponding number is typed into notepad.

And it works in MC - Play, Pause, Next, My Music etc all work fine.

So the problem is just that I can't run the Remote Control Wizard and set up the transmitters or edit commands

What can I try next?

Go to Options for the Remote.  Check to see if any Devices are active.

If not, go through the wizard (next, next, etc).  Check Devices again.  You should see MCE Remote and Hid both active.

The ehome receiver is good.  XP recognizes it correctly.  The blinking light on the transceiver is good.  It's working.  The sleep works.

It should be simple now.  Let us know what happens next.

Yes, Microsoft MCE and also: "Remote, keyboard, game or other HID.  Both are ticked and both listed as Active.

The wizard will never run for me, always says I dont have a media center remote connected.

Yeah and it works to control MC just fine.  I just can't run the wizard to set up the transmitters.  (I also tried going to Commands and adding an IR Blaster command, but it said "No blasters are installed on your system.")

Is this problem similar?
http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=54257.msg369354#msg369354

Yes identical - and I've solved the problem now.  It was because I had MC installed to a network drive Z:\ and the Media Center 14 Service couldnt start from a network drive.  I put more details in that thread.

Thanks

I spent some time trying to find an answer to a question I have and did not have much luck. So here it is: can I program keyboard combinations for individual buttons on the remote ?

Is there a way to map a button on the MC Remote to opening the Right Click menu on Theater View?

When testing Theater View I noticed that with mouse control, it has a rather attractive and useful right click menu.  I would like to trigger this from my remote and then use up/down/enter to select an option on it.

Thanks

Yes, I looked at that but did not see how keyboard combinations could be assigned to particular buttons. However, since it is possible, I will probably make a purchase and figure it out after the MC Remote is installed.

Hi all;
I've been dutifully following directions for my new MC Remote, but not getting any response.

Quote
When you plug the USB cable in, Windows should be able to install the device. When it finishes, you should see "eHome Infrared Receiver installed".
Check.  Got that.  Confirmed it on 2 windows machines.

Quote
Point the remote at the receiver and press a button. If it blinks once, the hardware is working. If you see a solid red light, it is not working.
Negative.  No blinkenlights when poked with the MC Remote.  Poking it with any other remote in the drawer gets a cheery blink in reply, but not from the MC Remote.  Yes, I tried 6 different new batteries.

Quote
If it is not working, go to Control Panel/System/Hardware/Device Manager. Under "Universal Serial Bus controllers", delete the entry for "eHome Infrared Receover". Then unplug the USB cable from the PC, wait a few seconds, and plug it back in.
Tried that too.  Ehome IR thingy disappears from the device manager, reappears when reconnected.  No change in activity tho.

Quote
If not, go through the wizard (next, next, etc).  Check Devices again.  You should see MCE Remote and Hid both active.
Check.  Both listed as active.

Quote
The ehome receiver is good.  XP recognizes it correctly.  The blinking light on the transceiver is good.  It's working.
Negative.  No blinkies from the MC Remote.  I do get blinkies from any of the other 4 remotes I have within reach tho.

And somebody else suggested
Quote
If I open notepad and then hit a number button on the remote - 1,2,3 etc - then the corresponding number is typed into notepad.
Negative.  No input.

I'm thinking the receiver is good but the remote is bad.  Does anyone have another suggestion?
Thx

Hi, first post so here goes.

Because of the general lack of remote controls available anywhere, I ordered one from you.  It arrived today and whilst it works fine, I am not happy about the general state of it - it is definitely not a new RC and I wasn't aware I was buying a 2nd-hand one.  I have pictures if you want proof but I didn't want to air it all here on the forums so can you point me to the correct person/department who can deal with this please.  Thanks.

I accept your word on that, but it seems very odd to me.

We'll ship you another.  Please ship the first one back.  If you prefer, please suggest an amount we can refund instead of a swap.

It can learn commands from other remotes.  I think we may have broken support for this in recent builds.

Hi;

Long time no see.

Received the Media Center Remote but it does not work….

• When plugged into USB port it is detected and software is installed.
• When I unplug the USB cable I hear the usual cher-chunk and the same when plugging it back in so I know it is being detected.
• When pressing any button on the remote both LED’s on the remote and the IR receiver light up.
• So far, so good.
• The e-Home that I have read about does not show up anywhere.
• Pressing any button does absolutely nothing in any application; I have tried WMC, MC, even Windows NotePad as I read that keystrokes should show up there also.
• Neither MC or WMC will detect the remote, they both say no IR Device found.

I am running a single isolated, stand-a-lone machine (no network or connection to any other computer).

I am running MC 14.0.131.

I am wondering if the IR receiver is bad.  It is obviously getting power from the USB buss as it lights up when a key is pressed on the remote. That however does not mean that it is transmitting the signal to the USB buss.

I am running Win 7 64-bit.

Thanks;

Try build 136 on this board.  Make sure that HID and MCE are selected under Tools/Options/Remotes/Devices.

Reboot.

installed 136, rebooted.

HID and MCE are selected under Tools/Options/Remotes/Device.

MC still says that "You don't appear have a Medic Center receiver connected to your computer".

WMC is giving the similar dialog.

Pressing buttons still does nothing to any application.

Any ideas?

In Control Panel/System/Device Manager, you should see an ehome receiver.

If a device doesn't get installed correctly, it will show up with a question mark.

That is the problem, eHome is not showing up.

How do I re-install it?  I have moved the USB plug to 6 different jacks thinking it would re-install correctly but it does not.  I have also done Search for New Hardware but none is found.

By your description, it sounds like it did install, but I'm guessing it isn't installed correctly.  Does anything look odd in the Device Manager?

No, no yellow questions marks on anything, all very clean.

I do not believe eHome was installed as it is simply not there at all... with or without a yellow question mark.  It is just gone.

How do I go about installing it manually?

Is there anything that I can un-install to start over fresh?
